There could be several reasons Belzer's air times been cut. #1 budget cuts #2 it was a mutual agreement. #3 maybe NBC and/or Wolf actually did feel he was too old, #4 someone at NBC disagreed with Belzer's opinion on a certain topic and held it against him (Belzer appeared on Politically Incorrect and Howard Stern's show often). #5 he pissed someone off (4 & 5 could be one in the same). Its too bad because I actually liked the character on the show. He had a cool way about him.
munch got screwed in season 11 too...he was barely seen onscreen having only two or three scenes in the 15 episodes he appeared and he mostly worked as background action...what a shame...he deserves more but i doubt he'll get it....i hope to be proven wrong but i think he'll barely appear in season 12 too...

I think BD Wong's character Dr. Huang AND Richard Belzer's characters are in too few eps. I think they two are just downright amazing, I love the rest of them but I miss Munch's histerical lines. It brings a bit of sarky funny into the show.

at the end of season 9 chester lake gets arrested for nurder and adam beach said that he wasn't going to be coming back for the 10th season so maybe belzer will be back with ice-t soon....hopefully atleast

His dog is so cute. And it's so funny how he carries it around more than he actually walks it. Every pic I've seen of him with his dog, he's always got it tucked under his arm :)
I really love it that he has Bebe and it's cute how he carries him under his arm all the time. Did you know Bebe gets his own seat when Belz flies back and forth between France and the U.S.? He readily admits Bebe is one very lucky dog. "He followed the right guy home." I think he carries Bebe because otherwise those little legs couldn't keep up with Belz's pace. (He's pretty tall, with long legs.)

If Wolf can keep Sam Waterston for this long, than he can keep Richard Belzer too! SVU will definately not be the same without him! I love Munch. I wish he was on SVU as much as he was in S1. I don't understand why they brought in Lake when they don't fully utilize the characters they already have.
The majority of the cast is wasted by making it an O/E show. I do love O/E but they could give Munch, Fin, Cragen, Huang, Melinda, Casey, O'Halleran, Morales, etc. lives and not just have them there to feed information to Olivia & Elliot. We already know more about Lake in 16 episodes than we know about Huang in 8 years!

Two, I maintain Beach's status as Wolf's new best friend (my words, my opinion) means he's getting the air time now. It's an enormous slap in the face to the rest of the cast. I'm not anti-E or O, but I'm just tired of them being so overused -- when there are more members of the ENSEMBLE who deserve their own moments.

Wolf is crazy for letting it happen, too -- I think he has the same opinion as NBC. But he's no 'kid' either.
It's from a movie called "Jump," in which Belz plays the manager of "Catch a Rising Star." It's a very ironic twist because it was at 'Catch' where he used to reign on stage, yet made very little money. He has a long history with the place.

You're right: Season 9 of SVU wasn't the same without him.. (He barely appeared!).
It's unfair they're cutting his episodes just because of the "age thing". (Honestly... Who cares about that?).
The fact is that he's an amazing detective who deserves a lot more time on screen!
