sad , what a waste. but the legend lives on, ian was a brilliant artist , singer, and drama queen!!, he was soo talented and stuck up his finger and succeded against all odds!! my hat goes off to him, ian you will not be forgotten xx
Legend you were never a waste and I wish you could have hit me with your rhythm stick hell maybe we could have gone out got some sex & drugs and jammed to some rock and roll
I had the good fortune to see and meet Ian and the Blockheads when they played San Francisco to support the release of the album. I had loved the record but was blown away by the live shows. Ian was kind, hysterically funny, and a wonderful story teller. He is missed in this world.
Fitting for nowadays, people with tons of potential thrown on the scrapheap cos of a knackered economy due to banker/wanker's greed. Rarely was Mr Drury's lyrical prowess sharper. Still relevant.
Norm pulls it out the bag once again for this piece of music history. Ian had such a way with words - cleverly conveying his unique perspective on a world in which he'd had to fight his way through - all odds stacked against - but choosing to not be 'a victim'. Ian, you're a hero to so many out there - inspriational.
Remember this from 1978....someone in our class had written IAN DURY in chalk on the blackboard. The woman teacher walked in to begin the lesson who was a rather old fashioned ,frumpy type obviously not in touch with the music scene of the time looked at the blackboard then turned to us all and demanded to know who in the class was Ian Dury wanting him to put his hand up.The class just fell about laughing as she looked at us all with a puzzled look.....LOL.
So So underated untill his latter years , gone but not forgotten some things are ment to be he was ment to be. thanks for the music and the honesty xxx

He would put down words on a page that could cut through all the crap.
He was,, part poet, part sage, part rascal, and full time Genius.
He said once "I Want To Be Straight",, Maybe now he can be....
RIP...
