If anyone remembers Cripin Glover's first appearance on Letterman (to promote River's Edge) he came out on stage dressing and acting like Rubin from this film. Unfortunately (or fortunately) nobody had seen this film as it was still unreleased, so people just thought Crispin was all hopped up on acid or something.

Yeah, but who knows, maybe Rubin was invented afterwards, to save his ass and career. He'd get away from it easier if he said it was just an "act".
