  • Don't hate on Bush. Period.

  • Coldplay is english and the viva la vida album cover is of the french revolution.

  • I thinks in about the french revalution.

okay so "now the old king is dead long live the king" thats when louises grandfather or father I forgot which one died.. also "shattered windows and the sounds of drums people couldn't believe what id become" when the angry mob came to versailes and brought them to paris and distroyd the house. they probably had drums they had heads on pitch forks and were showing it to them by the windows. "revalutionaries wait for my head on a silver plait"

  • This creater is a liberal that is narrow minded. sing4u2day, you can have ur change back.

  • its bush's theme song

  • This song fits Hitler perfectly.

  • holy shit!?

  • There are lines that fit George Bush, but then there are lines that don't fit at all.

I don't believe it's about him; it's about Kings or leaders losing power in general. That's why some lines fit Bush, some lines fit Louis XVI and some lines fit biblical leaders. It's a song about what it feels like to have it all and then lose it.

  • @Klive5ive "have it all" ?! they represent you, allegedly anyway....

  • Lol.

Anyone that supported Bush and supports the Republican Party lacks the right to criticize anyone, and they lack that right by virtue of having supported Bush and the Republican Party.

Get used to it, you stupid fucks. We've got 8 years of Obama.

  • So in other words long live Saddam, right?

  • a term is only four years. I know Obama is likely to get re-elected but only four years for now u ntil that retard sarah palin runs for president which will give Obama another 4 years.

  • That's true for anyone who still supports Bush, but not true for Republicans and people who supported Bush before he was elected. I am a very firm Democrat, but I respect and see the value of the most of the principles of the Republican party. Don't be such a partisan hack.

  • God bless Bush!

  • Long live President Obama!!! Long live Socialism!!! Long live socialized health care!!!!!!! Long live public works!!!!!!! Down with the private sector!!!!!!!! Down with deregulation!!!!!! Huzzah! XD

  • long live to live...

  • I've always thought it was about rome. About how they once ruled the world but not any more. Ah well, maybe not. It's still a good song to listen to while playing Rome total war :P

  • well done!!........ now u r makin' me atart to think abt it too !!

  • the Coldplay what have told about this song? did they "explain" who it is dealing about? I think they should tell, because it is important to understand the text

  • Long live Obama. ......bush was the worst 'president' in US History. of coarse, he wasn't elected in 2000, that election was stolen from Al Gore!! Long live the USA, Obama, freedom, pursuit of happiness, privacy, love and kindness.

  • "Long live Obama?" Holy shit, my suspicions are confirmed. So who here is planning to attend the coronation? And Bush WAS elected in 2000. We don't go by popular vote in America and everyone should know that.

  • wright on man

  • Long live Obama? That bumbling, baby killing socialist thief? Oh my, people are so warped and evil.

  • haha yea i dont think so

  • im pretty sure its about the french revolution and king louis the XVI i wanna say but i dont know my roman numerals XD,but i guess it kinda reminds me of bush

  • Great video. I immediately thought of Bush when I first heard the lyrics. Did you see him at the inauguration? He looked quite defeated, and aged.

That being said, it could be about any leader that has an astronomical rise to power, then fails in one way or another...

  • Down with Bush! Remember the good old days?

  • ps regardless of the song, that shot of the soldier with the cigarette at 1:21 is just an unbelievable photo, isn't it?

  • Sure, offically its about the french revoloution. Yet i think there is an underlying subluminal message about bush behind it all.

THeres just to many hints.. It was the wicked and wild wind, that blew down the doors to let me in, people couldnt beleive what i'd become..reffering to the supreme court, voting in favour of bush as president. People couldnt beleive what he'd become.

  • Like why would they? Why wouldnt they be underlying a subliminal message about...random shit, like TV, a disgraced actor or singer or even Влади́мир Влади́мирович Пу́тин(Putin).

  • There aren't really any hints SPECIFIC to Bush or any one person. That is a huge stretch to say that the line you quote refers to the 2000 election.

  • well the thing about it is that most people who interpret the song literally come up with identical conclusions: that it's about napoleon. however i've also heard assertions that it's about herod, louis XIV, jesus, and charlemagne. the real question is, why the hell, in 2008, would coldplay write a perspective song about a historical dictator? your argument that it's about bush seems pretty strong, even without the specific line references you have. the song appears to be an allegory about bush.

  • When I hear it, I think of any who's tried to make their nation the most powerful on earth... Charlemagne, Napoleon, Julius Caesar, Louis XVI, Bush, even Hitler b/c think about it, everyone loved him but he killed so many and his popularity fell greatly. I don't know about Jesus, tho.

  • yea the beheading of king louis or napolean........ som french dude.... but the bush idea is pretty true

  • I don't think that is the definitive interpretation, but since it draws a lot of parallels, I'm willing to go with it.

  • hey, come see my video on this. It is pretty good. Much better.

  • No, the song is about Napoleon.

  • hahaha. funny...there should be a video on Great Britian, roman empire, or Mongol empire with viva la vida

  • Or America...because America ruling the world is SOOOO 80's! Believe me, 2040 and China is worlds most powerful country. Counting EU as a country, the first 35 years of this millenium they are strongest.

  • after obama, no, we'll still be stronger than EU... but China will overtake us around 2020 and then EU will overtake us around 2050 because they'll advance way more in medicine and their economy will be so much stronger than ours

  • I doubt that Obama is able to repair america. I think the crisis is gonna cost much of the economy's power. Taking into account that EU's individuals doesn't rely on credit i think EU is gonna survive this well. Countries like britain, luxemburg and the netherlands are in many ways whealthier than america already. you're right about china tho'.

  • actually. this might be about many different things unintentionally. =)

  • Ok, RetardedJoeDDD Is what your name should be. IT'S ABOUT THE FRENCH REVOLUTION!

  • In fact,if you read the series of events after his brother King Louis(Monarchey reinstalled after Napoleon's demise)died of old age,the song is a Bio of Charles accepting the Keys(with unmatched fanfare)and within months was fleeing.....

  • This song is about King Charles X during the July 1830 Revolution...Fact....

  • Wow..

This was EXACTLY what I was thinking about

    when i heard this song.

  • what kind of crap is this?! you create a crappy slideshow of bush bashing pics and pair it with a really good song, and that automatically makes it what the the song is about? ur such an effin retard.

it about Napoleon. all you have to do to figure that out is look at the cover. it parallels almost exactly to the French Revolution, or shortly afterwards. unless ur to stupid to figure out that too, you drop out.

  • the song is about the french revolution and the beheading of King Louis the XVI

  • Its about a unnamed tyrant at his end.

Therefore, it also could properly apply to any tyrant with really going against the meaning of the song.

  • i hate all republicans,,and i think they all should die.esp black republicans..they just little house niggers.

  • watch your mouth. i'm not a fan of em either, but they have as much right to live as we do

  • Putting a picture of Clinton up with the lyrics "Once you were gone, never an honest word" ?????

Wasn't this the same guy who lied about what happened between Monica and him.

  • 0:46 looool with the lyrics so funny

  • It's about Napolean.

  • Bush and Obama are both ego driven and tyrants at heart.

So the song fits them both.

  • Name me one tyranny Obama has done. Nothing on par with wrecking our economy [current national debt, $9 trillion], our environment, our standing in the world, a full assault on our Constitution and liberties at home, and over 4,000 Americas dead. Every one of those flag draped coffins held the crushed hearts of another American family. Bush did this, not Obama, he opposed it from the start.

  • its a sugar coated deception i tell you now. However you Americans can enjoy your imaginary freedom while it lasts.

  • you're that kind of an american we swiss people hate

  • Really making an insightfull point with that comment.

Being an American who does not Obama because the media tells me to, makes me an American that the Swiss people hate?!

They hate everyone who does not vote for Obama?!

  • Pillars of sand his castles are built on are the sands of his middle east wars; sweeping streets he used to own is him once sweepng thru the streets to adoring throngs, but no more. The sound of drums is the drumming of the rain from Katrina. "Be my mirror my sword my shield" refers to these as objects of valor and courage [the mirror is one of 3 sacred objects in Japan, it represents valor]. He has none, he depends on his "missionaries in a foreign field" [our soldiers] to be that instead.

  • wow! i thought it WAS about the french revolution! now im at the beginning again! at least i know that bush is a jude now! isnt he?

  • no this is not about bush it is about the king of carthage

  • this song isn't about bush, it's about dinosaurs... lightin' up people

  • 1:21 that brought tears to my eyes

  • The song is from the viewpoint of a fallen tyrant at his end. And focuses on the ego driven selfish nature of the tyrant.

Thus, in a general way it applies to Bush.

    It also applies to Obama.

They both are ego driven men, who are totally selfish and out for power, money and glory for themselves.

Neither has done a selfless act in his life.

  • Why Obama bash?

  • Yeah, I guess Obama going to Chicago after graduating from law school to help families effected by layoffs, and all that other "horrible" community organizing he did for pretty much NO money isn't selfless at all. Is it?

  • @baja318 yes because zbigniew Breziznsky wasm't his mentor for 25 years....

Dude you make think you chose the president. It's the other way araound. _A few elite men are chosen for the peasents to "feast" on the election, the representation of the lie the peasents think is a truth, that they have power.....

    WAKE UP

  • very well put together video for an incredible song. You've taken a sad song and applied it to sad circumstances, and it really fits.

  • picture at .35 is maybe the saddest thing i've even seen in my life

  • but this song was actually talking bout napolean bounapart or however u spell his name

  • this is what he was doing when katrina was in new orleans,,,,,,,not giving a fuck just like on sept 11 when he went to go hide

  • Lol, Well according to him September 11 was Actually on September 4th! Lol I read a quote and it says 'I was there on September 4th standing in the ruble from the Towers' Lol maybe he was there to early? Who knows!

  • what was the last photo all about?

    i dont the that picture

  • I agree with those who say it's about being on top of the world, and falling from power.

  • 1/20/09 is when bushy gets to leave office.

  • I'm pretty sure it's the French Revolution.

  • what do u mean waiting for 1/20/09?

  • 1/20/09 is when bushy gets to leave office.

  • something i get tierd of. is that ppl always diss on bush because of the war. but he became president at a bad time. and we would be losing more ppl from terrorists then we are from the war. We'v maybe about now hit 4000 deaths in the war, but from 1 terrorist attack. we lost 300 ppl.

  • Yep, its supposidly about King Louis the 16th. Last King of France before the French revelution. But its mainly about falling from power and fear of eternal damnation hence the line 'I know Saint Peter wont call my name'.

  • This song has absolutely nothing to do with bush. Its about the french revolution. I guess to each their own u can interpret it any way u want

  • its not exactly what its about, but its the same "concept"..

Its about anyone who once so much as felt on top of the world, but lost their way in life!

  • Uh if you think its about bush you really didn't listen to the song, its more the story of a dethroned king.

  • Like during the French Revolution.

  • Indeed, you were correct, however, its more likely talking about the aristocrats rather than the actual king, seeing as many aristocrats were not executed with the royal family, and instead escaped and came back with no money or power.

  • sorry, but in a way i rofled.

  • Um.....Coldplay is a British band. Why would they be singing about an American president?

  • do you know Ramstein: "we all living in america"?

I think its possibly or normal to sing about popular things or persons... and just because of their nationality they shouldnt sing about other countries presidents??? dreamer?

  • dude you didn´t get that song right??? this song is satirical.. the song states, that we are all live in america because a lot of products made in the USA are known all around the world nad are consumed all around the world.. like coca cola... and thats it....

  • cause hez a jackass on a worldly scale

  • Have you ever heard the term 'Leader of the Free World' as another name for the president for the United States. A lot of what America and thus George Bush says and does affects the whole world eg the Iraq War

  • british hates bush lol :S

there was a concert of coldplay that he said bush is an ass hole ..

  • Made me think about it. I'm still not so sure though.

  • That's quite an argument. Though I disagree on your view of McCain.

  • Naw.....

    it just a song...

    somebody admires someone a lot

also somebody is thinking too much

  • Well if you ACTUALLY listen to the lyrics it sounds like the French Revolution. I think this video is pretty imaginative, but it doesn't actually explain the song. I mean this explains the French Revolution really good but has a few links to Bush. Kudos however on discovering this.

  • Some one is obsessed with bush. xD get it.

  • nope

  • It might not have been written that way but it is certainly applicable and btw all the people that say its about such and such and not such and such songs are meant to be interpreted not have definitive meanings

  • Is aBOUT aMERICA FALL.

  • this isnt about bush you morons its just a nice song

  • nice idea........

  • nice 5/5

  • 1:05 what chart is that

  • yea...i was wondering the same thing.

but i like your concept--and you could be right.

  • Ru fucking dum? This song is about a dude that use to be a ruler in the holy land and now he is normal

  • Dumbass....this is what happens when you listen to your lib teachers for too long...lol

  • I think the "Saint Peter" thing would be a big part of the puzzle.

  • st. peter is an imaginary character that the Christians believe will greet you at the pearly gates

  • Bush is a DUMBASS...however, I do enjoy watching him try to form complete sentances

    PS: Fcuk John Mcain

  • PS: Fuck you

  • french revolution. havent you seen the album cover?

  • that´s right! -^.^-

  • A+ that is probably what it is talking about george w bush, but why would some one make songs about that...?

  • i think coldplay have better things to do than write about bush, only boring, trying-to-get-popularity bands do that.

    coldplay are world-class

  • I thought this song was about Jesus or something.

  • One can't take everything literately with Coldplay, some; i'm sure was added just because of creative song writing.

  • the lyric ha nothing to do with roman catholic, it says, roman calvary

  • It's about the French rulers. Look at the album cover with the battle taking place. I think it has much to do with Napoleon Bonaparte, one of the most successful rulers of France, he declared himself as an emperor, he also got the pope to come to a banquet, which has to do with the lyric,"Roman catholic choirs were singing." I'm not totally sure, but, yeah.

  • EDIT! Louis XVI

  • It's painfully obvious its not about Bush.

First thoughts where it's a mix a great leaders through history NOT just one.

Most obvious being Napoleon Buonaparte, Louis VII and the effect of the French revolution. The lyrics make it so clear. Napoleon also quoted something very similar to the line "I know Saint Peter won't call my name".

  • I really like that interpretation. I've also read somewhere that its about sin/sinning. I'm not really an over religious person, but it kind of made sense. Now that I've read what you wrote, I like yours better. Good job!

  • no it cnt b cause bush was not very popular in the begining.

  • the next wall were closing in on me was basicly hilter was surrounded by the russians nad he did sucided. also about the usa i think about the nuke on japan when we nuked them the walls and windows shartted when also a bomb drops it sounds a like big one drum noise.

  • the song is about hilter stallon and roman empires.... in opion bush never ruled the world. roman wanted to take over the world and the part of the song says roman caverly they wanted to take over. hilter wanted to the world to he tought he was the key to make the world pure the line is once i had the key.. also it is about hamen is the jewish reglion hamen used dice and jews belive back then someone ruled the world. he rolled dice to kill to decied what day he would kill people.

  • viva la vida means eternelle life in spanish

  • no it means live the life

  • As much as I hate Bush I don't think this is about him. Bush is still President, unfortunately. Still has a lot of power and a lot of people still think he's a good president.

  • Like my mom.

  • maybe its about people who had it all but after a whirlwind of something bad....or waking up one day and finding themselves out of power

  • I support Bush. Yeah the economy sucks, and gas prices are sky rocketing, but if we leave Iraq, now it will be another Afganistan for Al Qaida. Katrina is kind of the people' of new orleans fault. Yeah guys lets just live below sea level in an area of the world where major hurricanes hit. So what if the mayor was in the four seasons, he was not dumb and got the hell out of the state.

  • There is no reason to believe Al Qaeda will take over Iraq if we leave. They are a very small presence and groups that are stronger, more organized, and better supplied, like Al Sadr's militia, absolutely hate them. As far as Katrina goes all I blame Bush for is the Federal government's response to katrina. He royally screwed up and people died because of it.

  • I dont think the song is about Bush, its mostlikely about Napoleon

  • if it was y wuld they talk bout jerusalem

  • Continued from other Comment: Hit because of the levees they thought the levees would save them but they didnt since the levees were built New Orleans is a bowl its under sea level which is another reason Katrina hit it hard. If the levees weren't built in the first place, and people decided to leave instead of staying, Katrina wouldn't of been that bad.

  • I do see the resemblance, butthe bush and mccain on katrina thing isnt that terrible. Katrina was a normal hurricane the day it hit. It didnt become a crisis until the levee broke. So its not like the crisis was going on while they enjoyed that cake. I do agree that bushes reaction to katrina was way too slow though.

  • But Thats What got them. When their levees broke they were screwed and anyways um oh what was it...Damn forgot the place that helps the victims 72 hours after a crisis. The first 72 hours is city. Do you know where the Mayor of New Orleans was when Katrina hit?. He was in his Suite in the Four Seasons Hotel in Houston ,Texas. he heard about the hurricane early and left town. The only reason Katrina was a big disaster was because everyone refused to leave didnt care. they didnt think it would...

  • He will never sweep these streets. He'll sit atop his hill of green and bathe, grinning, in his fountains of blood and oil.

  • i thought it could be about Macbeth. I dunno, it seems to fit............

  • Its about loving your neighbour. There's the second most idiotic theory proposed here.

  • I can see how you can get the connections but it's quite a strech to compare President Bush with Coldplay or rather Coldplay making a song just about him.

  • No, its not about bush.

  • the song is defenitley not about bush

  • You have to admit though its a good idea

  • sorry but no. viva la vida is an allusion to the rise and fall of Napoleon Bonaparte, and the fall of Louis XIV. but the main subject seems to be of lost love. ti would take me more than 500 letters to explain so u can take my word for it or go figure it out for yourself and not take my opinion as gospel. i recommend the latter.

  • calm down, now most people know that songs can have more than one meaning, so coldplay could have intended the song about god knows what... so until coldplay comes out and says what the song is truly about it's up for discussion. But even then it's up to the people who listen to the song to decide what they want the song to be about and mean to them.

  • I agree with you on Napoleon but the cover threw me off since it shows a painting of the

    1830 July Revolution.

By the way, isn't viva a spanish spelling of long live?

  • yes it is

  • I kinda feel bad for bush after seeing him and this song together...I dont know.

  • "Viva La Vida" means "Long Live Life". I love this song. It's beautiful :)

  • it's an interesting take

  • and "Viva la vida" means "Live Life"

  • that song is deff. not about bush...

  • cracker

  • ALL READY

  • It pisses me off when people say Katrina hit New Orleans. It didn't.

I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and had a house a block from the beach. We had a 35 foot storm surge and 140mph winds. But yeah New Orleans gets a little wind and floods on an average of 10ft but they got it bad right?

  • u need to chill out ppl died its not about glory on who it hit hundreds of ppl died and ur just worrying about who gets credit grow up and wake up

  • Katrina did not hit New Orleans and New Orleans wasn't even affected on the day it hit. The shit hit the fan the day AFTER the hurricane when their levees broke and they fucked themselves. The hurricane hit the MS/AL border and the NorthEast quadrant of the storm is the worst because the water and wind go straight north.

  • wow...great interpretation...especially when you showed Katrina's wrath during the lines about the "wicked and wild wind."

  • This is a good opinion, but you could almost put the basic principal idea of this song, to anyone superstar. So Bush isn't the only person(s) you could link this song to.

  • its about life and revolution.

  • I don't think it's about Bush personally (i suspect people are so overly-zealous in their hatred for Bush, they WANT it to be).

I don't understand why people have bought into the hollywood/media-propogated mass deception about this president and how 'evil' he is. This war was entered into by democrats and republicans and then for politically expedient reasons liberals have decided to jump on the media band wagon and ignore any consequences of an instant withdrawl - an unwise zeal.

  • it's about Rome

  • thats a great point but it could be about mant leaders

  • Extremely interesting point.... i like the way you think.

  • Very Nice, It's cool what people get out of the same song. I personaly like Bush and he did, used to rule the hearts of Americans, but one bad thing after another, he could hear those Juerusalem Bell's ringing and Roman Calvery singing his own funeral proce
