Laura was wearing her skimpy waitress uniform that looked like a bathing suit and at the end, when it was over, she was in the foreground, crying. Luke was in the background--he held out a hand to her, but she ran away, clad only in a midcalf coat. Luke held the ripped uniform to his face and cried, "LAURA!" and a cop met Laura crying in the park, asked, "Were you raped?" and she nodded.

When I saw this, I imagined what is said below - it was surreal and Laura must have been looking up at them or around the room at them. I don't think the audience was not supposed to make its own conclusion as suggested here. She is frightened, blouse torn, she said, "no." There's really only one conclusion to draw - Luke raped Laura.

I saw an interview with Genie Francis (Which is on YouTube by the way!) and she said that while they were filming this scene, her studio teachers told the producers NOT to take it any further. That's why they didnt show the actual rape. Remember Genie was only 17 years old and a minor, and the producers could only take too many liberties. Also she said that Tony Geary talked to her extensivley before and after the scene to make sure she was ok. He was VERY concerned about how it affected her.
