  • What a wonderful song at the end from 5:25

  • Just Plain Fantastic

Thank you for this wonderful listing

  • So this is "The Stumble"? Uhm no. This is old as the hills. Chuck Berry did a warm up song very similar to this. Also, I fail to understand why someone would use pictures of Jimmy Page (and the Yardbirds) set to a soundtrack of Jeff Beck?

  • @kharmabum Did you "actually" listen all the way thru? Or read my notes? Uhm, no, don't think ya did! Correct, the first song ( there are 4 ) isn't "The Stumble", but, I didn't list as such read it for yourself. My notes say "JEFF'S BOOGIE"...........very simular to Cuck's :Guitar Boogie". Song 4. is "The Stumble". See it pays to look and listen before making cooment with lack of information.

  • @Yardbird68 Here's another "cooment" :-) Nothing "rare" here. Jimmy and Beck NEVER played guitar at the same time. When Beck was in the Yardbirds, Page was the bassist. I don't hear the Stumble anywhere in this video. There is a definite lack of information here, but it seems to be on your end. If you want to hear a great version of "The Stumble" check out Gary Moore. If you want to go to the source try the Freddie King version.

  • @kharmabum Yes I know Freddie Kings version. Garry Moore, not one of my favorites. Stumble is the last song mate. Guess you couldn't take the Jeff and Jimmy thing as a joke? True, they never recorded studio stuff together, but live ia another story, that is unless you are going to call Jim McCarty a liar or doesn't know what he is talking about, when he told in an interview, how some nights it worked and other nights it was terrible. Rather take the words of someone who was there, than not.

  • @Yardbird68 I saw the Yardbirds 4-5 times. This was before you were born. I could care less what your opinions are - they seem to be on a level with your sense of humor. There was only one song with dual leads from Beck/Page (Happening Ten Years Time Ago). By the time Dreja had switched to bass from rhythm guitar, Beck got fired and that was it. I have respect for MCCarty, but he's not calling me anything - you are. I've heard many guitarists play "The Stumble" not here on NoobToob but live.

  • @kharmabum Hmmm....you could care less about my opinion? Ok, then why reply? You saw the Yardbirds before Dec 1962? So now you contradict yourself? "Jimmy and Beck NEVER played guitar at the same time", now you say they did "Happenings". So which is it? Hmm, you have respect for McCarty? Tell me what did "this" McCarty call you? Except saying, "I will take the words of an "actual" memeber of the Yarbirds, over someone who wasn't. Thanks for the history lesson, but I am well enough rehearsed.

  • @kharmabum Concerning Jeff/Jimmy playing or not playing together. In an interview with McCarty entitled "WWIII" by Richard Mckay from his old "Yardbirds World", Jim said that Jeff/Jimmy would play "Over Under..." as a dual " stereo" guitar on the main riff. Also on some song they would try to out do each other. As Jim stated, sometimes this worked , but more often than not it wouldn't. So in the words of Ripley....Believe it or not. For me, I will take Jim's word for it.

  • @kharmabum Another interesting interview I read one time ( wish I could remember where I have this at ), around 1974 Keith Relf, when asked about Jeff/Jimmy playing both guitars on Pscho Daisies" and "Happenings Ten...". Keith's reply was, "It is all in the peoples imaginations............as they did NOT records these together in the studio, but it was Chris Dreja doing his usual backup to Jeff and not Jimmy".............

  • @Yardbird68 I think it's all in your and McCarty's imaginations. I did not contradict myself. I said, and maintain that Beck did not share guitar playing duties with Page (you even quote "some interview" that says they didn't even record together). Maybe I got your age wrong, but not your lack of understanding. I saw the Yardbirds the first time in 1965, Clapton was already gone and Page was not yet in the band. They did nothing worth talking about after they fired Beck.

  • @kharmabum Ah yes, I forgot you seen the Yardbirds in 1965 4-5 times so this makes you an expert all things Yardbirds. I guess Jim McCarty was on holiday at this time? Or maybe ex Yardbird Jim McCarty has gotten forgetful in his old age so he doesn't know what he is talking about. Maybe you should get together with Jim and share your superior knowledge with him or at least remind of the truth. Yes, the interview from Relf alluded only to studio recording with Jeff/Jimmy, but not playing live.

  • @kharmabum Let me quote from Yardbirds historian Greg Russo concerning Jeff/Jimmy's dual lead guitar. "This revised lineup continued as the band quickly discovered that the dual lead guitar attack of Jeff/Jimmy provided devastating results on a good playing night. Sometimes this combo would result in a wall of noise". From book "The Ultimate Rave - Up". But I am sure you will classify Mr Russo the same as McCarty, just their imagination. You should have help set Russo aright with your wisdom.

  • @kharmabum I guess you will say its also in the imagination of Chris Dreja? From the "autobiography Yardbirds", written by Platt, McCarty, Dreja. Chris states, "I don't think Jeff could handle it. Jimmy could always turn out a good solo, but Jeff became unpredictable and would try to blow Jimmy off the stage. When it worked it was incredible, all those stereo riffs and alternating solos, but frequently degenerated into a wall of noise". Maybe you should write a book, to set the record straight

  • @kharmabum What is there to fail to understand? these pixs where taken when the Yardies had both Jimmy and Jeff. You don't see Jeff cause he had to take a piss break.............................

  • @kharmabum The third song on this "video" is indeed Freddy King's "The Stumble". It starts around 5:20 into the video.

  • "How High The Moon"......

  • Why????Mr,Page's Photo.

  • why have pictures of jimmy page right throughout jeffs boogie?

  • @jeffbeck710 Because Jimmy was feeling a bit jealous, unloved and left out............................since Jeff is an amazing guitar player!!!!

  • this is guitar boogie by chuck berry

  • @ericmackenzie123 wrong mate....... the first song is "Jeff's Boogie" by Jeff Beck and the Yardbirds

  • this is not the stumble i think it is chucks berry's guitar boogie

  • @ericmackenzie123 the first song is not the stumble, its song #3......and yes, Jeff Based his version "Jeff's boogie" on Chucks Berry's Guitar Boogie".......but Jeff's is a bit more flash and spend up.

  • Great stuff! Thanks for posting. I never heard these versions before. I can take them off my bucket list now..... :o)

  • Jimmy Page getting the credit for somebody else's music.....again...

  • Great stuff, thanks!

None of this on the BBC cd as released, right?""

    "wordofgord"

  • @thewordofgord Yes...you are correct. These BBC versions have not been released on CD

  • WHERE`s the PHOTO`s of Jeff?? This is Page !

  • @dukeuke1 they were nicked by Page out of jealousy

  • @Yardbird68: Now *that* is funny!

  • How good do you have to be to have Jimmy Page as second guitar? Zounds!

  • and he still is an awesome guitar player!! I just saw him live at the Moon and Stars in Locarno Switzerland as special guest for ZZTop!! just great!!

  • I really like Jeff's Boogie and Chuck Berry's Guitar Boogie. Really great work from the masters of guitar boogie music!!

  • @onceuponamidnightdry nothing wrong with the pixs...if your a "true" Yardbirds fan you would enjoy the pix not matter if they match or not.....rare Yardbirds tune and rare photos = AWESOME!!!

  • It looks like a yesterday tune BUT this was 40 + years ago !!!

    Life is nothing !

  • typical Jimmy Page stealing the limelight!! Great live versions. Ta

  • only pictures of PAGE ^^

  • I've never heard these Yardbirds tracks before. It was great to hear Jeff's Boogie done live around the time it was recorded. Similarly the Stumble, the only recording I've heard of this track by them. Interestingly Jeff stuck fairly closely to the original Freddie King version, and didn't solo in the middle. Great post. Thanks.

  • @wilsonmcphert Thanks for the comment! Appreciate it. Yes, these are some rare BBC tracks that really showcase how Jeff was/is such an excellent guitar player. The Stumble is great....makes me wonder if Jeff ever did this in a Live performance and if he added a solo to it???

  • @Yardbird68 Are you from the UK? My understanding of the 1960s UK BBC was they were regulated by record companies to play studio made albums as little as possible for fear of people recording the songs. Thus they had live on air shows, so technically this is live. This is some clean vinyl. Great condition. I assume this is not out on CD and may well be a "bootleg" like the Jimi Hendrix Death Certificate album which is all BBC stuff. I also bought a 10" RtR with loads of Hendrix BBC stuff.

  • @Satchmoeddie No I am not from the UK. I read or heard Jeff say concerning the BBC recordings was they ( the technicians ) we not very good at getting the sounds the Yardbirds wanted, I take it from Jeff that they went in before the shows and laid down the tracks that they were going to play record and then play these recorded songs on air at the appropriate time. These are from a cassette tape I found years ago and no there are no CD release of these...there should be!!!!!

  • @wilsonmcphert Yeh. Shame all the pics are Jimmie P, huh? Hope Jeff's not watching!

  • hahaha all Page pictures. :P

great track!!! Jeff Beck is a Genius!!!!! :D

  • jimmy page is of the hook he is redonkulious

  • Those are some heavy licks too......

  • Always loved this track, I was very surprised to find an almot identical version by Chuck Berry recorded in 1952 or so on a Chess Blues anthology. Jeff obviously plays with a bit more FLASH but the original is as amazing to hear for the first time as this is for the 50th.

  • Hey Ronbo, this is very cool stuff indeed. Listen to the SOUND of the guitar coming out of those amps. They gotta be Vox. I pulled a couple of my old vintage Vox amps out of storage this week. it's been 19 years. My friend and I are doing some repairs but we had them honking at jams on Wed and Fri. What an awesome warm breathy sound. It's just like Jeff's sound in this video. I am stoked!!. Justlooking at the bloody thinks on the dining room table as I write this gives me chills.

  • Why all the pics of Page???

  • Keep looking at the posts below - Yardbird68 explains why (marked 11 months ago and today is 20-March-2010).

  • No mistaking that quivery , nervous vibrato it's Paganini Beck! great posts !

  • @jsilence418 - Yes, Jeff has one of the best vibrato's around!! Thanks!!

  • @Yardbird68

Yep, up there with Danny Kirwan, Michael Bloomfield, and the king of string-shakin, B.B. King! There are truly great guitarists ( many mentioned in the comments ) but not many will take the chance of throwing an overflowing toilet ( stylistically ) into the middle of a song and making it work. Go Jeff!!! Hey we have the same birthday! Always my fave.

"Every rock and blues guitarist should have a sticker on their guitar that says 'Thank you, B.B. King!' "--Buddy Guy

  • It's not jeff Beck as Paganini.

    It's another great guitar player.

The latter lead guitarplayer of Led Zeppelin.

Check out: Dazed and confused amazing style of paganni

  • Jeff or Jimmy on The Stumble?

  • @Crossie145 - It is 100% Jeff Beck on all of these BBC performances.

  • Thanks for that. Is Page on any of these recordings at all? Rhythm perhaps?

  • @Crossie145 - no...Jimmy was still doing sessions work at this time....he hadn't yet join the Yardbirds.

  • I can remember staying, whenever I heard that The Yardbirds were playing on the BBC radio, and getting the old tape recorder going,no line in days, just done via a mic. These recordings have gone right round the world now.Years later, because of my friendship with Jim McCcarty, got to meet and talk to Jimmy,Jeff etc.(these two especially are great guys to talk to).Rock N Roll Heaven indeed.

  • @yardbirdmackay - thats pretty awesome!

I think I remember reading your comments from your old YB fanzine ( i still have the compilation book from these somewhere ) about these rare YB BBC performances . Reading your comments made me want to find them. WHich I have. Plus you are one lucky bloke to be able to actually have chats with Jeff & Jim.

YB are my all-time fav group, especially with Jeff. But I hold a unique fondeness for Jim because we have the same surname = ) Thanks!!

  • Ah,the old Yardbirds World fanzines, goodness, must have done them for around ten years or more, goodness how I found the time. The Yardbirds with Eric were OK,but when Jeff joined, well, that was something else again,we really were flying sky high.I did catch the band once when Jeff and Jimmy were both there, one of those moments one doesnt forget.Loved that brown fringed jacket Jeff used to wear.Had to get one nyself, just because Jeff had one, corny or what lol.

  • @yardbirdmackay - Yeah, thats the one YB World. Yes I agree, Eric was ok, but the Yardbirds didn't hit there stride until Jeff came along. His guitar work was so ahead of its time. His solo on Mr. is still one of my all-time fav solos, it still gives me a chill up the spin listening to it. Ah, so you are one of the lucky ones to hear what Jim called "World War III" the Jeff/Jimmy due guitar bit. You wouldn't happened to of recorded that show? That would be the rare of the rare.

  • No,didnt get to tape it,although I nearly did,it was a case of,do I travel down alone to see the band or go with my mate, who at the time hadnt any money,so I paid for my mate,I had remembered seeing these little Philips cassette recorders for sale at the time,I did think about getting one for that gig, alas,it wasnt to be.But the memories stay with me forever, one of THE great bands.

  • MORE VIDS!

  • Good job, although I cant quite grasp listening to Jeff and seeing only pictures of Jimmy, minor quible though, good job.

  • @yardbirdmackay : the easy solution mate is to just close your eyes and listen to the music = ) seriously, i plan on doing a proper Jeff Beck photos, thanks for posting!

  • No, I actually enjoyed all the pics, always good to see any pics of the band, good job.

  • Spent 4.30 p, until 12.15 am in the company of the latest version of The Yardbirds,VERY enjoyable as ever,if you guys havent seen them yet, check them out. Jim McCarty gave me a copy of his latest cd to hear, this too should be checked out,ok its not rock, but then even The original Yardbirds were into far more than just hammering out rock material, they were arguably far more versatile than Zep and the rest. THE band.

  • @yardbirdmackay - Wow awesome!!! You are so lucky! Do know if this latest version of the Yardbirds plan on touring the states? I live in California and would just love to see them live. Any chance of you giving "this" McCarty regards to the more famous Yardbird one = )

  • Thanks for posting these. When I first heard the OUSD album, I couldn't believe any band could sound so electric. I think Yardbirds was a jolly good team effort, but Jeff Beck is something else!

  • I heard some les Paul guitar licks in there! RIP Les! Beck is one of my favorites!

  • yes, Les Paul was an amazing guitar player. And it no wonder u here some les in Jeff's misic, since Les was one of the men who inspired Jeff. Thanks for posting!!

  • Yeah Jeff nicked that G minor pull off lick onto the open strings from Les Paul, it's actually quite easy to do but always sounds great.

  • @poopyloo6 - i wouldn't say Jeff "nicked" the G minor pull off from Les Paul in the negative sense of the word. More like Jeff

paying tribute to a guitarist who had a great influence on Jeff and a man who Jeff greatly admired. But that only my opinion = )

  • Yeah you're right of course and I didn't mean it negatively. I use that lick myself and anyway, how could anyone in their right mind say anything negative about Jeff.

  • I can't get enough of Jeff's Boogie... The guy was always full of ideas and still is! Rock on Jeff and please keep Tal on board.

  • Beck is my all time fav too.

I always feel Pagey's Tele that Jeff giving to him is coloring,

he painted red and green and other brightly color to the dragon on the guitar.

    very interesting and fancy.

  • Jeff is my all - time fav too!! Though I am a fan of Jimmy, Jeff is just so much more of an complished player than JP. Especially if you compare them both today. JP basically continues to play the same way he has been playing since Zep, while Jeff continues to evolve his sound and playing technique. And YES, the "dragon Tele is totally cool looking guitar. Thanks for posting!!

  • totally the same with you!

I think Jeff is the real artist-guitarist,

We can tell his playing has many periods from 60s-now,

Just like the great artista in Art history.

I like his all periods, his music makes me moving all the time.

Of Crouse Pagy is my fav,but as what you saying,Jeff is more special, more developing~

  • That Telecaster is also the main guitar on Zep 1. That through a Supro amp, which is an amazing sound. Great tone.

I love Becks playing on these songs.

  • Out of curiosity... why'd you put Page pictures on a Beck song? I don't have a problem with it just wondering

  • The answer is quite simple. The first audio I made for u tube was for Page, when I made the ones with Jeff I took the easy way and just reused the pixs w/Jimmy I had already on my computer. Hind sight, I should have search for pixs of Jeff, but I didn't. Don't worry this by no means a Jeff conspiracy. Since Jeff is my all-time fav guitarist !!

  • finally he is in the rock and roll hall of wonder what took so long

  • Does anybody out there know which guitar Jeff was playing on the original record of Jeff's Boogie?

  • very good question Panzerschnott!! It could be one of three, his Telecaster, Esquire or Les Paul. My quess would be the Les Paul because Jeff seemed to have switched over from his Tele, Esquire in 1966 for the Les Paul which of course is the time of Roger the Engineer album. Sorry thats the best I can do since I can't as Jeff personally = )

  • Does anyone know anything about that guitar Jimmy is playing....it's cool looking. I never noticed him playing it in Led Zeppelin. Any info???

  • Yeah,, this is my favorite Jimmy Page guitar!! This Tele was given to JP by Jeff Beck at the time both Jeff & Jimmy were a YB. Originally it was a blonde with white pickguard. Sometime in early 67 or late 66

Jimmy added 10 round mirror disks to the body. Finally the top and sides were stripped and the cool "dragon" paint job was done. This tele can be either a 59-62 because of the "slab board" rosewood neck.

  • Also, The Back side of the neck has been really shaved thin where the headstock meets the neck. Jimmy did use this Tele in the early years of Zep up to early 69 before relacing it with his trademark Les Paul. For me I prefer the Tele. Unfortunatly I have no idea if Jimmy still has this Tele or not. Though it appears to me that perhaps the neck was used for Jimmy's B Bender Tele he used with the Firm. I know the body isn't the same because the grain pattern is different.

  • Now concerning the pickguard. I've been trying to figure out this "mystery" pickguard for years. I have never read many a interview from JP but he never talks about this Tele. It "seems" to be a pearloid with a very heavy grain pattern. Depending on the light or angle the PG can be silver/grey, or off white or silver, black and grey!! Also interesting ( & confusing ) the top curved part of the PG you can see some of the green paint from the body under it?! So part of it is clear??

    Confusing!!

  • There is also an added extra piece of pickguard between the Bridge Pickup Base Plate and the Volume/Bass Chrome

plate, this PG ends inline with the far side of the Volume control Knob ( the side closes th the Bass Knob, not the Selector switch ). The top has apparently had its original "blonde" colour removed ( the woodgrain is too prevalent on top for a 59-62 blonde Tele ) as well as the sides. But from all the pixs I have the back still has its original blonde. I hope tis was helpful!

  • WOW! You are a wealth of info. I didn't expect to get a reply from someone who knew so much. THANK YOU, you're awesome!

  • hannemann1 - you are very welcome!! I been studying this Telecaster of Pagey for a long time. I got a good collection of pictures ( these are some of the ones I used for this video ) of this guitar because I plan on making a replica of this Cool Tele. Like I said, the biggest problem has been figuring the pickgaurd.

  • I also have wonder about the pickguard on Jimmy's tele. I think that it might be made out of metal (maybe aluminum or maybe a stronger metal) and I believe that the surface has been burnished to give it a textured look.

  • where's Jeff i guess it's kinda like a waldo thing. him and page were in the band at the same time. then he left and so did paul samwell smith. he left b4 beck i believe .can someone fill me in that knows?I think they were kinda the first so called super group .page stayed on and did Little Games was Beck on the album anywhere at all?

  • Yes, Paul Samwell-Smith left the YB before Jeff. Thats why JP was brought in on bass temporarily until Chris took it over. Then The YB had the short duel guitar thing going with Jeff and Jimmy until Jeff became unreliable. No, Jeff was not on Little Games album.

  • Nice pics of Jimmy Page too.

  • That is a Freddy King song "The Stumble" right at the end!

Jeff I loved his playing then and still dig him!

  • Jeff is my fav,my HERO!!!!!!

  • Jeff to bone!!!

I love him when he plays hus fav style

    RocknRoll!!!

  • JEFF BECK LEAD GUITAR !!!!!

  • Go Jeff Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
