Who wants unsound money? Stop voting in the wrong people into office, quit printing money, and don't get involved in any wars. And start making things people want to buy. You don't need gold standard or anything else to improve the economy. What's the point backing the money now? A dollar is worthless at this point, backed by gold or not. A dollar is pegged to the economy and the US economy is shit, prosperity is all smoke and mirrors.

Gold is not the perfect substitute for fiat money. The gold standard will merely shift power from the Fed to Gold mining companies. Value should be stored in something that cannot be mined or printed.

Here is what happens. The government wants to buy fighter plane as an example. It needs money. It creates an interest bearing IOU called a government bond. It sells this to the central bank which prints money to buy it. The fiat money it just printed is now "backed" by the IOU. This is the cause of inflation. Fiat is Latin for "let it be" or "so be it".
