It's funny. I've seen a few videos of people doing a cricket sound, and every one is different. And the way I do it is different than all of them. For me, it involves the throat rather than the lips or tongue.

That doesn't sound like a cricket. You have to make a little pool of saliva at the back of your tounge and put your lips as if you were going to whistle but you have to gently suck in air

Are you whistling using your toungh or lips?

In this case it's more the tongue. I press the end of my tongue almost up against the front row of my upper teeth/right along the gum line before it arches upward leaving a bit of space between the rest of the tongue and the top of my mouth and then leave a tiny opening at my lips so that I can whistle.

It does sound a lot better in person. For whatever reason the webcam microphone makes it sound harsher and a bit metallic.
