I haven't understand a shit, please someone explains me! It's purely nonsense. For me he was just crazy and that's all, and his neighbours has nothing to do with the events. Am I right? There's no explanation in the end. But what I found ridiculous is when he got ran over and no ambulance was called and cop let the driver drive him home?! WTF? That should be reported and why did he think Stella was part of the "plot"? Please, someone!

@brunopiccinin I'm not entirely sure, but I think it's purposely left ambiguous to let the viewer conclude whether or not there really was a conspiracy or whether Trelkovsky was just paranoid: the book gave me that impression, too. The ambulance? maybe the police were in on the alleged plot. And as for Stella the old man who rings at her door is transfigured by Trelkovsky's escalating paranoia into Monsieur Zy; thus he thinks she's in league with his neighbours, too.

A great and creepy little film by Polanski. Not on the level of Rosemary's Baby, but worth seeing just for te scenes of Polanski in drag. There is one scene where he is sitting in front of his apartment window watching a white ball bouncing just outside until it becomes something else. It is a moment that one could find in a film by Luis Bunuel.

I LOVE this movie, it's such a masterpiece. The trailer is one of the most effective teasers I can think of. I honestly don't care what Polanski did to that girl all those years ago; she's forgiven him, and so much time has passed that it's irrelevant. The man is a genius filmmaker. HOWEVER, I do have to laugh at the line "No one does it to you like Roman Polanski". :)

p@BeauJames59 Quite possibly. There was no rape. Polanski committed 'statutory rape' with many young girls before and AFTER. It's disgusting but 'wasn't uncommon' back then. In this case her mother made all that noise b/c had an eye on him... What he did was quite humiliating...

But whatever he did, the fact that the moron judge got kicked off the case at the request of the lawyer and PROSECUTOR says it all.

What a GREAT trailer! They don't even make TRAILERS this good anymore....that was creepy in it's own right....ANYONE who truly APPRECIATES "suspense" films...knows that horror movies don't use that anymore..they cater to the A.D.D generation that we have now..it's a damn shame..it really is....a TRULY GREAT horror film builds suspense (Silence of the Lambs, The Shining, House of the Devil, Black Christmas from 1974, Carrie, Misery...etc...) horror movies today are GOD-AWFUL

Yes, Topor's book is very good too, but more absurdistic. In the book the neighbours are really conspiring, in the film Polanski chose to turn it into a man's psychosis.

It's comparible with what he did with Ira Levin's 'Rosemary's baby', to let the viewer question wether it's all in the mind of the fragile protagonist, or if 'it's really happening'.

Anyhow, the Tenant is my favourite film of all times. It's a very underrated film, even Polanski himself doesn't seem to like it very much.
