I find it hilarious that so many people complain about crosby. Their favorite players can do it too. Crosby takes the risk of taking a diving penalty when he does it, but being a good actor is just another skill in drawing a penalty. It's part of the game. Letang got thrown out and Comeau helped set up two goals right after. Id say Philly has one of the best franchises historically/currently, especially in comparison to the penguins. The pens consistently have bad coaching, absolutely horrific scouting and they are horribly managed. Just look at their team without their draft prizes. Then the lazy play by Giroux that leads to him taking a tripping penalty. I love the comments by Richards as a Pens fan though, shows the lack of accountability in Philly. He was awful in this game, but at least he came up with good soundbytes to placate the media over there. Oh, and if you spear someone in the junk, good chance they're going to fall.
It's a shame, going into the 3rd period the Pens had a 2-1 lead in what was a really good game up to that point. Then the Refs just took over and no matter how good your PK is, you're not going to kill 4 minors in a row. Crosby definitely owes Devorski a steak dinner for getting him his 2 goals.
Why does pittsburgh dive? Let's go back to opening night, the first time in the Crosby era I've seen the Penguins go a game without attempting a dive, they lost.
All he said was what 95% of the rest of the league and it's fans think and say about the Pens whining & diving tactics they've been using for 3-4 seasons now. Get over it people, it's nothing new. NHL fans are always going see the Flyers as "goons" and always going to see the Pens as "whiners and divers".
It's funny how when Chris Pronger does this he's praised but when it's Mike Richards he's torn apart.

I find it hilarious that so many people complain about crosby. Their favorite players can do it too. Crosby takes the risk of taking a diving penalty when he does it, but being a good actor is just another skill in drawing a penalty. It's part of the game. How? Effort. Richards doesn't give up, and doesn't quit. EX: Flyers vs Bruins playoffs last year. It takes more then skill to come back like that. It takes character ... Guys like Richards (Pronger, Lappy,) bring that to this team.
Plus he scored a ton of points...plays PK and PP (very well) and tries (mostly way to hard) to pass the puck to his teammates all the time.

Letang got thrown out and Comeau helped set up two goals right after. It has nothing to do with provocation. did you watch the game, because the score in game 3 when the malkin v. zetterberg fight happened was 3-1, not the 5-0 game 5 you're thinking of. everyone in a red jersey on the ice attacked talbot because he poked osgood and osgood made it look like he was shot with a 12 gauge at point blank. Malkin grabbed zetterberg to pull him off talbot and they started fighting.

@cibobary8766 If you're going to correct me, get it right, it was game 2. Oh yeah, poor Talbot, being in the middle of a typical front-of-the-net shoving match. Zetterberg was doing absolutely nothing, Malkin SPECIFICALLY targeted him to get him to fight - to "send a message". I'm sorry, but it doesn't get more clear-cut for that rule than what Malkin did. The point I was making was that Malkin got three fucking assists the next game that he should've been suspended.

In addition, the following (40.2, 40.3, 40.4) disciplinary penalties shall apply. technically z-berg could have been suspended.

@cibobary8766 lol Rule 46.12 and 46.22 on fighting state that any player who fights within the last five minutes while "trying to send a message" (e.g. trying to make a second consecutive Stanley Cup game loss look less demoralizing) will be suspended. Prior record has nothing to do with it.

@cursedlemon He didn't break the rule, therefore he shouldn't have been suspended.
1. Malkin is not known to be a dirty player nor a fighter. 2. He is known for getting frustrated and breaking his stick, instead he grabbed a player and took out his frustrations. He didn't target him to injure him or to send a message, he was helping out a teammate in a scrum and he let his frustrations get the best of him. It wasn't the right thing to do but it wasn't breaking the rule.

@DCnader this is not true. set foot inside consol energy center and have some chats about the game with the fans in the upper bowl, 95% of those fans are knowledgeable fans of the game, not just penguin fans. in addition most of those fans have had season tickets for more than 5 years. what is true about penguin fans is that the more vocal fans happen to be those fans who lack hockey knowledge. they are the people who read thepensblog like it's the bible. they embarrass me sometimes.

Id say Philly has one of the best franchises historically/currently, especially in comparison to the penguins. The pens consistently have bad coaching, absolutely horrific scouting and they are horribly managed. Just look at their team without their draft prizes. They simply cannot compete without tanking(on purpose or not) for a star like Lemieux or Crosby/Malkin/Staal/Fleury. Any dipshit couldve made those picks, yet the pens even screwed that up as they couldve had Toews/Backstrom.

The Pens have missed the playoffs 2x more than Philly(17-8), and when in the playoffs, Philly has past round two 15 times vs the pens 6. Flyers appeared in 2x the amount of cup finals, and recently were the 1st team in years to beat a 3-0 deficit. while the pens just finished losing to the friggin' habs.

Richards' just doing what nearly all of us would do. He's frustrated with some of the questionable calls, however, the Lovejoy penalty...is something Richards' is a master of himself.
The point is, Sid is a very reticent human with a capacity for self-control off the ice that is virtually peerless.

Let's all just ignore the fact the the Flyers were already leading the NHL in PIMs coming into this game. Against St. Louis, Colorado, and Tampa Bay the penalties were legitimate; but against Pittsburgh it was because of diving. Yeah, that sounds plausible.

Pens is always an uphill battle for philly because they know the cheap shit is coming. To reference the Flyers always have to face an uphill referee battle argumen; stop signing goons who cant keep up with skilled players like Crosby or Malkin and the penalties wouldnt be so abundant. If the refs took over it's because the Flyers forced them to. Carter crosschecks Goligoski in the face and draws blood, that's 4 minutes. Then the lazy play by Giroux that leads to him taking a tripping penalty. I love the comments by Richards as a Pens fan though, shows the lack of accountability in Philly. He was awful in this game, but at least he came up with good soundbytes to placate the media over there. Oh, and if you spear someone in the junk, good chance they're going to fall.

It's a shame, going into the 3rd period the Pens had a 2-1 lead in what was a really good game up to that point. Then the Refs just took over and no matter how good your PK is, you're not going to kill 4 minors in a row. Crosby definitely owes Devorski a steak dinner for getting him his 2 goals.
