the mold of you ten pound bass killer looks like it once was a lizzard mold. have you tryed two piece molds for like a curly tail worm and do they work, the tail is so flat and then i was not sure if they would work.
@adamsjeme With old worms I would say yes...from fishin them the oil's gone....but with new worms...they have that little bit of fish oil in the package that stops the glue from sticking.....might work if you washed some brand new worms good first
one thing i forgot to do which would of helped and i mention it so that no one else repeats my mistake.... find where your worm has its seams and line those up with where they will be when you sand the molds back down cause my seams are opposite where they should be right in the middle of my mold!!!! OOOOOPS! I should of bought a gallon resin instead of 1 quart you get 4 times as much for double the price ,gonna be making more soon!
@rickhorror I'm gonna do that too...buy it buy the gallon. Wanna know some other great baits? The Strike King Rage Tails......awesome action....I like the Rage Tail Craws....the crawfins go haywire when you drop them in the water, good action
i just repeated this process and i would have to say that this works out great the only variation ive seen is using laminating sheets adhesive side up to hold the worms... but this system worked almost perfect the first pour i did 3 senko 6 inch worms and 2 were perfect but one had a big ass air bubble towards the tail so next time i need to pour the resin better i was excited to pour my first mold lol! but this is a great method, thanks for the video !! make some more!!I wanna do creaturebaits
@IowaOutdoors101 sure you can...not sure how the finished worms would come out...I tried the plaster mold thing but I couldn't get the plaster right, Im gonna try it again
@chasestevenpresley I couldnt say for sure in the aluminum mold because I don't have one, but in this mold after I repour the worms, I usually wait about 1 minute before I open it and take them out and bag em up
I'm surprised that you didn't use any mold release. Not in the bottom of the cake pan, or even on the finished fiberglass first half, before pouring the 2nd half on top of it. How did the 2 halves of fiberglass resin not stick to each other?
@Mikeandwendy74 Thanx. That makes sense. One more question: How many pours of baits do you get until the resin starts to degrade because of the heat? Just curious. I usually use silicone for molds because it's not affected by the the high heat. I always thought fiberglass would melt pretty quickly when you pour hot plastic inside it.
@larrysteve1241 the fiberglass holds up suprisingly well, I made this mold 11 months ago, and its still perfect. The thicker the fiberglass mold is, the better it holds up, this is as thick if not a little thicker than the aluminum molds you can buy
@kevbot31 I caught easily over 100 ten pound bass in one day. Nah just kiddin, had a few big slams but up here in rhode island, ten pound bass are rare, couple of pikes hit it but nothing massive yet :)
@BassFisherman88 I use a dual burner coleman propane stove and a 1 egg frying pan. I heat the mold on a super small flame just to warm it up. The used worms I cut them up small, it melts them much better like that, low to medium heat and keep stirring them so you don't burn. Takes a little practice, but after a bit, u get the hang of it, and them come out great with no burn smell. If the plastics smokin, its burnin, gotta stir it more
I used to do them like that until I tried melting the plastic in a measuring cup in a microwave--MUCH quicker, easier, & less messy.
Some comercial plastics don't re-melt very well, I don't even use them any more, I buy plastisol from Lurecraft. They have all sorts of colorings, softeners, & molds to make soft plastic lures plus plastisol to make different hardness/strength plastics for fresh or salt water. Great job with the video.

@1973Saved Thanks, I have to git me some of that plastisol, and a beat up microwave, I have seen people use that and its much better than the stove top procedure, seems to give them more time for the pour too
Thanks for taking the time to put this together. Well done. My mold cracked when I was trying to ssparate - maybe b/c I was drilling too fast. Do you have to use toggle bolts? Also, you mentioned putting together a video on melting worms. Has that been done yet? If so, would really like to see it. Thanks again.
@aggmrfbass No you dont have to use toggle bolts, they just work good with the wings, even if you cut the bolts down or just use shorter bolts. Anytime you drill fiberglass, theres a fine line between too fast and too slow, gotta find that medium speed. I havent made the video yet but I will, its fishin time :)
@Bbkflys absolutely, but I had a bunch of fiberglass resin sitting around, I figured I would give it a shot. I would love to have a nice 2 piece aluminum mold, someday i will grab one
@Maddawgbaits you could do it with one side, you would have to trim the excess rubber/plastic after you pulled it from the mold, but I make all kinds of crazy shit and hook fish, so don't let normal thinking limit you to what you want to try, I dont and it works for me pretty good :)
Thanks for sharing. I've been making molds from plaster and then coating them with epoxy. This way is stronger and cuts out the need for the epoxy. For those asking about salt, grind your salt in a spice grinder or a coffee grinder until is is almost a powder. You can mix that with plastic that doesn't already have salt added to give it the weight and action of a Senko.
@LordRuckus thanks for the tips I am going to try that with a spice grinder it makes perfect sense, the finer the salt the easier it should be to keep it flowing when pouring.
@mrtaboocobra the material is : bondo fiberglass resin, the right stuff gasket maker to stick the worms to the pan, I used a simple electric palm sander to smooth the 1 st half of the mold, it doesn't really take much to make the mold. I used a 1/4 inch drill bit to drill thats about it really
@MPAV101 thanks, the resin warms itself when it is curing, but I do heat it up when I pour, it gives you more time to work with the plastic when pouring your worms. I sand the first side, reinsert the worms, pour the second half, then clean the edges and the pour holes, but I do not surface sand the second piece of mold
@PurpleHeart1337 did you stick the worms to something? if the resin got down underneath which I think is what happened, just sand down the bottom side until they come out....sand it down some more, then flip it over, put the worms back in and pour the top half.
Awesome stuff bro !!!! You are the man. Thats a great way to save a bunch of cash. Do you have a good recipe for mixing senko plastic, with the salt and all??? I want to be able to make senkos without melting old ones down.
@Skimpy253 well I'll tell you this, the only way to make a perfect senko....is to melt a senko :) Most of yamamoto's are loaded with superfine salt, but its the amount of softener added.... thats thier secret. If you like fishin with soft plastics, you should definetely try out the Rage Tail baits from Strikeking too...they work just as good as Senkos
Been looking for almost an hour for a video like this. I was fishing over a rock bank and lost a crapton of rubber lures. I figured it'd be cheaper in the long run to make my own as well as I wouldn't really be shy about casting lures into places I know the fish are but dont want to put a lure into. Perfectly done and easy to understand.
Nice catch, :).. I was wanting to produce some of my own ideas for plastics, but i dont know where to start, have u made any of your own lures, not from copies?
@ss70chevell85 I have made a few/ Its pretty easy to do if you have a dremel and some fiberglass resin like this. I pour a half a can, let it dry, then pour the other half on top, let it dry, then clamp them together, drill out the middle all the way through, tap the hole to 9/16" and pour melted senkos, I call this monster my 10 pound bass killer :) its really easy to do
@ss70chevell85 thanks it takes a little work but the end result is good, just used repoured senkos 3 days ago and bagged 6 3-4 pounders it was a god day
If its not a "secret", what brand of plastic do you pour?
