I challange number 2..If thats the case then why keep the B-52 in service since the last production modle was back in when? '64? Also C-130's coast a lot to maintain and they have been flying since the late 50's. Why not replace Airforce and Marine C-130's with C-17's?

OK, i was stationed at NASNI... about 20 min drive and 5 min flight from Top Gun training school and 20miles from where the first female F14 fighter pilot "revlon" lost her life!!!! As a Aviation structual mec i have worked with many pilots both male and female, NEVER at any time did i feal like the Female was at risk with any aircarft or in any way NOT EQUAL to the male pilots skill of command or flight most are more well rounded Humans and perform great!!! That Leonardo Da Vinci line is so true. I was 3 when I took a flight on my first plane. It was a Boeing 737 flight to Las Vegas. One of the flight attendants saw that I was pretty scared so she took me to the cockpit to meet the pilots. After takeoff I was able to go into the cockpit and one of the pilots let me stand in his seat. I looked out the window and saw the blue sky above me, the white clouds and terrain below me and from that point on I knew I wanted to be a pilot.

The F-14 Tomcat was retired purely because, it was becoming a bitch to maintain, the US don't like old planes. And there were the more technologically advanced aircraft proceeding up the line. As much as you might not like to say it, the tomcat was becoming too prehistoric in terms of technology, and the Super Hornet was a good replacement due to that. Super Hornet =poor range and speed compared to F-14. F-14=poor maneuverability compared to the Super Hornet. Both had similar weapon loadouts.

Mate, if you watched Speed and Angels they actually mention how the Tomcat's maneuverability was limited. The hornet is much more maneuverable, but lacks the speed. The F14 was operational for 32 years, but many variants were released, the hornet is up to the Super Hornet, the Classic hornet is being retired yes, not the E/F models. The F-111 is still in service with the RAAF, yet U.S. gave it up ages ago, it depends on the force using it, it may have had better roles in the U.S. Immature prick.

The F14 retired because the engines compressors had the tendency to stall at Mach1+, which stopped airflow in an engine. This combined with the high speeds led to the engine being torn off of the aircraft.

I know I sound sexist but the truth is the reason the tomcat was taken out early was due to the fact that it had too many accidents in too short of a time, the second to last cvn approach that went bad they told the squadrons any more accidents and the squadron would be taken off line, a women was the last person to crash a tomcat and one of the reasons they got canned early, out of the last 5 tomcat crashes 3 were women =) I don't think women can't fly just not the tomcat its a mans jet

Good job at expressing your lack of knowledge. The main reasons the Navy decommissioned the Tomcat are:

1. The excessive amount of moving parts that the F-14 has requires an immense amount of maintenance downtime.

2. The F/A-18 is cheaper and easier to fly, build and maintain. Coupled with the age of the F-14, it was no longer economically smart to keep them.

Far more men have had accidents in the F-14 than women. But correlation does not equal causation. So stow your sexist bullshit.
