Darbar 2006 was an amazing and giant festival, so many great and reputed artists came to perform such as pt kumar bose, pt ramesh mishra, pt swapan chaudari, pt anindo chatterjee, and so many more
The white instrument is called the sarangi, if you would like more info about it, you can send me e-mails or write comments on my wall. I am actually his son, lol that's why i know about it.
What is this style of playing called? It's so different from Zakir Hussein, and Tariq Khan. But, it's very imaginative, and so beautiful. Somebody please explain :) Thank you!
Zakir Hussain and Tari Khan are from Punjab Gharana, this great artist is from Banaras Gharana. Gharanas make a big difference in style, and all of them have their own unique style.
Himu what does it matter`s who`s tabla he plays(: Quality doesn`t only comes with having a good tabla, it`s also about having good techniq and nikhaas in ur playing.
Pandit ji has all that.
Although i was hoping 4 a more autentic Benares tabla solo, this is great.
Your great prejudice is evident in your comments. There are many of us who are left-handed in this world with all the rights to exist and play Tablas. We are indeed a rare breed because they used to beat us on the knuckles to change to the "right" hand according to Christian dogma....I am a living product of this very subtle form of bigotry and cruelty. However, as a percussionist, having developed ambidexterity has proven to be a divine blessing.
He is teh most powerful tabla player around. Have seen his live performances 4-5 times, and no other tabla player uses power like him to make it special...
Did he sign the tabla? Not to compare as i agree with the earlier comment that the four tabla players mentioned are the best right now in the world - but I saw someone at a Ustad Zakir Hussein show ask him to sign their tabla and he answered politely, "How am i to put my signature on Ma Saraswati's creation?" He was making a point about sound being God according to Vedic Texts. So i guess i am in awe that Pt. Bose signed your tabla. Nada Brahma.
Pt Kumar Bose, Ust Zakir Hussain, Pt Anindo Chatterjee, Pt. Swapan Chawdhury are the best in the world. They all have individual style. Unfair to compare for anyone.
You are indeed a wise person for your observations and comparison. Only those who are knowledgeable about the subtleties and intricacies of these instruments can appreciate the individual differences which give them their distinction.
I can honestly say that it was the best tabla performance id ever been to, belive me ive been to lots. it was so good I asked Kumar Ji to sign my baya. I was soo exited, good job raju reminded me to get his blessings. Thanks Raju!

Whoa, what's that white string instrument? I've never seen one before.
FascistFashion 2 years ago
It's called 'Sarangi', played by Ramesh Mishra, one of the top Sarangi players. It's a very hard job to give good lehera.

His bhaya sounds so superior....i am currently taking lessons from his senior student. I hope to take talim for panditji soon...

He is actually right handed. He learnt to play as a left hander. So he hits the bass drum with his strong hand (the right hand).
I remember someone telling me that.

I dont think I could get use to playing with the baya on the right.

Tari seems the other player who uses a powerful sound. But i reckon Kumar Bose is more classical. I am making a guess based on what i have heard.
