Slightly off on the years. The first footage was from Shackle Me Not which was shot and released in '88, not '87. In 1987 we were all still doing hand plants and bonelesses. Hokus Pokus footage was shot and released in '89 and This Is Not The New H-Street video was shot and released in 1990.
For more on why skating outranks the categorization of "sport", read the great new book, The Skateboarding Art. Available at Lulu and Amazon. Trust me, you'll like it.
Yep, this guy is underrated as far as influence goes. Rodney had pulled most of the tech tricks on flat, but he brought them to obstacles. He, Mark Gonzales, Natas and Ray Barbee invented street skating, and the young guys brought to it to new levels.
Definitely one of the greatest street skaters. Watching guys like Hensley taught me that a good skate spot is anywhere you want it to be! I grew up miles from any skateparks or ramps, but I had the street. And the street is good.
how many people do fakie 540s on street? thats so tight. the only people ive seen do it is chris cole, Hensley, and my friend Brad who did it down the big 2 at my local park.
180 kick flip grab.. man that was the famous shot on the magazine and i went and bough a hell concave board, riding it all wobbly..and the rest was history!!!
Named my first son after Matt Hensley. He was it.
