There are very few songs that someone can just absolutely OWN, to the point where you just can't imagine anyone else singing it. Oddly enough, Liza (and Joel) managed to do this with EVERY song in Cabaret.

Liza was THE perfect Sally Bowles. Period. NO one has EVER replaced her, ever; especially in Maybe This Time. I based my performance on her work... I stand by it time and time and time again.

And to catdemonninja - well, actually, there is no absolute in acting.  Whatever gets you to a great performance is fair game. I didn't try to replicate Liza's Sally, but I certain was influenced by her work in the movie. I can't help that either - cause it was the first Sally Bowles I'd ever seen and is still my favorite to this day. (Tho Natasha Richardson was brilliant as was Jennifer Jason Lee, both on Broadway.)

this is fantastic..greatest movie of all time. We were lucky to meet Liza recently, twice backstage after her concerts in Florida ( we went to all of her florida performances)...such a sweetheart and our idol.... Thanks for the wonderful tribute to the greatest entertainer in the world! She's the BEST!!
