Somebody need to check out those cross ties for date nails. They are worth a buck or so each. More if in the 'teens. Pry' 'em out w/a large screwdriver using a ballast rock (gravel) for a fulcrum.
that looks like fun......Too bad they took out most of the abandoned rails around here.......there are still some trestles left ,even tho the track is gone.....traced them with Google earth........where were the Locos and abandon tracks you were on?
i like how everyones being an asshole trying to make you guys look like idiots when your clearly laughing having a good time. it's obvious your not trying to get anything accomplished by this. it's sad that everyone needs to come on youtube talk shit about other peoples videos to make themselves feel smart when they don't even have enough balls to post they're own.
1498 Fremont Dr, Sonoma County, California - Go to Google Maps and enter that address using their satellite view. Follow the track. You will see the washed out sections of the line and the abandoned locomotives and cars. Neat!
UM... on detailed inspection SUH... You had crap on the tracks & were derailed on the RHS front... by said "material" Namely a small thick branch (weed stalk) at 0-15 That LIFTED your rim & it neatly rolled OFF to the right Immediately dumping U all...
Ahah ... looks like you made that - with a RIGID frame? Or... (seeing as how the wheels actually HAD enough meat on the treads... DID you by any chance >MAKE> the rim to rim "inner gauage - EXACTLY the same as the track.. because If you did... YOU found the answer(WHY all railways have 1/4" narrower "rim to rim" distance than rail to rail.
Why did the "driver" (the one holding the stick in front) pull on the stick hard to the right? Is that perhaps why you "derailed"? I want to build something like that for myself, but I'm going to try putting real (lightweight) train wheels on an old quad with the front steering locked in place. Looks like fun!
When stuff derails and its completely expected, and when we're in such a beautiful spot, and when its so completely simple to fix... yes, absolutely, its fun when stuff derails.
And in point of fact, they derailed because of a stick on the track. That train can't weigh more than a few hundred pounds, you can hear someone saying "well, I guess we have to watch for stick now too" on the video. The wheels are so wide that it would take more than a little bit of wide gauge to derail it.
o very good. they didnt seem to clean up their act when it comes to people trespassing on rr property ^_^. all their workers are super nice and very helpful for riders.
They don't try? That's odd you say that. According to the latest financials they were the most profitable railroad operating in North America in 2008.
are yu joking me? they arent dangerous, there are no more trains there and it would take a hell of alot longer to corrode thos rails...no harm done here. Learn more about trains befor commenting again.
Longer videos!! You're doing what I fantisized about doing 40 years ago. Go for it, and make it a good long trip. That is so cool. I envy every one of ya!
@wrybread Clearing WHAT UP? (looks to me - like you DIDN"T WALKCHECK your track... Something even big railways do... WALK CHECK (thats why they'r called MAINTENANCE TROLLEY's the world over... to MAINTAIN the track & to clear debris .(such as your stuff.- at 0-15 that derailed you)
@Shadesdeath Wow, and here I thought that they did it on purpose... Stupid me... Come on man, you seriously can't think that they rode those rails unaware of their condition??
Doh! Being a train driver by profession I didn't know that. Ever heard of irony? (and it's not something you make rails out of - not even american ones).
In real railroad terms.. when you derail like that, its called a wide-gauge.. the tracks wont fit the wheels.. this is pretty neat.. I know a few lines myself that havent been used in decades I would like to take one of those one!!

Corrosion had no effect. Is only a tiny "skin" of rust.
