the fact is, that Bill doesn't know she is barren. No one does. she tells her mother, and the family finds out, in a Christmas carol. an episode in the season 5. where Scully finds a child that is her biological daughter. created when the secret government men stole her eggs, or something. the kid was mixed with alien DNA. or so it seemed. but died because she was so ill because of mixed genes. she had a rare blood disorder.
Yeh, Bill doesn't know she is Barren though. The family find out a bit later. I'm pretty sure, she tells her mum, in the episode where she finds her biological daughter Emily.
Scully is staying with her family for Christmas.
Bill's wife is pregnant, and Scully gets a bit upset. and confesses that she can't have kids of her own.
I'm sure Bill just meant that his sister, wasn't the type to want kids anyway. with her job. not that she was gonna die. nobody can be that tactless.
Doesn't Scully say "I didn't choose this Bill" right after the end here? I wish they had left it in too. It may have shown how things like this effect different people in different ways, which I know well.
You're great. Thanks so much for posting this. I wish they had kept this scene. Yes there's a mix of poignancy and awkwardness in this scene. But poor Scully. I find her brother insensitive in this scene with this "a lot of ghost now" I wish we had seen more of Bill and Scully's mother. The dynamic created because of Scully's relationship with Mulder and her work was always fascinating to me.
i really love this scene and i'm kind of sad they chose to cut it out. i think both of the actors' performances were great! there's a great mixture of poignancy and awkwardness between not having seen one another in so long and not wanting to talk about scully's cancer.

@crankyole She recovered from cancer. A series of experiments caused her cancer and also caused her to be barren. Have you ever watched this show?
