  • ? so we have given up the thought off other resaurces? i mean oil aint the only thing making energy. If someone could learn how to store lightning etc we wouldnt have any problem.

  • Even if we localise and become self-sufficient, we still have to somehow feed 7 billion people, where a huge amount of the crop yield is created by petro-chemical fertilisers (essentially growing several times the amount of the food in one acre than they would without it.) Before oil and coal were widely used, the world population struggled to exceed 500 million people, spending millennia at about half that. What will happen to us if we can no longer use oil and coal on a worldwide scale?

  • @Standuble -agree, every use of fossil fuels contributed to carrying capacity. We used to use horses for transport. When we moved to petrol cars, the land that used to feed the horse can now feed more people. We used to use wood for heating/construction, when we moved to metals and plastics the land that grew the wood could then feed more people ...

  • @walter0bz It's going to be messy, if you view images or videos of North Korea the peasant farmers have literally stripped many hills and mountains clean of vegetation in an attempt to create farmland, because their previous farmland used to use petro-chemicals in the USSR days and they lost the top soil and could not use it for non-petro-chemical farming. It's unsettling to see, its even more unsettling to imagine it on a worldwide scale - environmental damage and human strife.

  • @Standuble -

what terrifies me is the number unaware, the number deniers, and the number of optimists convinced a solution is more likely

  • We're not powerless. There are things we can do. We can re-localize our economies and our daily lives. Learn how to grow your own food. Start riding your bicycle. Get out of debt, and stop spending money you don't have on things you don't need. In the coming years, community will be key. It's time to start building resilient, autonomous communities that are able to withstand energy shocks/rising oil prices.

  • oil should go out as sourse of energy by 2055. By 2035 no coutry in the world will export oil fuel products

  • @symmetry08 sadly i doubt that will happen. I think it's so funny that people think China will replace the US as a superpower. The reason for this, is due to the fact that by the time the chinese pass the US, oil will have run it's limit. Let's face it, China won't have the resources to beat the US, and the US won't have the resources to stay a superpower anyway. The world will go into decline, and there is nothing that will stop it. You are in the future now, this is the best humanity will have

  • The only way we can stop peak anything is to lower population. The reason why were in this mess is because we let our population get out of hand and unfortunately, many are going to die if it continues to grow. You can't "be fruitful and multiply" if the planet lives on a fixed resource. The religious nuts should be happy for what they have done.

  • You are a damn idiot for writing something so dumb! There is enough land on earth to hold 3 times today's population, its just that certain people want to dominate it all. We also know Tesla invented wireless energy (see videos on Youtube) - You know? the type that would have powered electric cars for free? stupid S.O.B

  • An idiot is someone who doesn't know what they are talking about but still chooses to talk about it. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about. Overpopulation is and will continue to be our biggest issue in the future until people wake up from their religious dogma. And land is not available in the quantities you are talking about to increase population 3x the size. That is an idiotic response on your part

And Tesla did not invent wireless energy. I know the guy who did back in the 60's.

  • If you believe for 1 second the world is over populated then you have alot to learn. For example, the world is expanding to accomodate the expansion of the human race yet this fact gets little to no mention. Plenty of info out there and you will also be interested in Russia's natural land expansion recently covered on the news. Youtube clip here on Tesla's wireless energy watch?v=gfvd1g_fcUo

  • The world is expanding at the equator because of the extraction of petroleum from within. The expansion is not a good thing and I'm well aware of what you are talking about. Much more so than you obviously.

The expansion is also do to our dieing sun. Its a waning star and has been for quite some time.

  • @controlpopulation can we count on you to kill yourself or will you commit a act of eugenics to kill the eveloutionary cul-de-sac you are so rudly imposing with this ideology?

  • rudely? Ah yes... I forgot the truth is now considered rude. You should rethink your position because overpopulation is our real problem. Its not my fault you don't see it yet.

  • Not the truth but the intent. Lead by example if you believe overpopulation is a problem to such a degree that the world has a mass depopulation be my guest and lead by example and fix it. The choice is yours, I don not deny the peoblem I am simply like you looking for a solution that does not involve mass genocide or eugneics.

  • You are assuming something that I nor anyone that has posted here has even talked about. No one is calling for mass killings so I have no clue where you came up with that. A birth stoppage should be in order world wide but the people are too lost in their religious delusion or every conspiracy theory that comes there way.

  • You assume death by attrition i.e. birth stoppage in a world that has to grow for profit. I hasten to point out that according to the 'laws' (i use the term as a social constuction) of fiat currency and contemporary market theory it is impossible for population to fall without growth stopping and as such depopulation is not possible. What do you suggest?

  • @CyberAthletethefirst, we don't need growth, we need sustainability. Growth is for the greedy idiots that want to own everything. This is why economist need to stop preaching population growth with economic growth because the reality is, only a very few of the world benefit from both. As the middle class and poor get poorer, the rich get richer.

My suggestion is obvious. Stop immigration into and out of all countries. Lower population in all countries with birth stoppages.

  • Okay well capitalisim under fiat currency rules (fed....) requires growth in order to continue the paradigm. I say regardless of protectionism which you are advocating countries should reject the command and control systems and reduce consumption to control population growth as a component part of the ecology of population control. Papers produced at many US universities detail that overpopulation is a symptom and that the growth paradigm/ecology is the cause.

  • After attending many universities myself, I have come to the conclusion that they have no clue what they are talking about. Remember, even they benefit from overpopulation and it doesn't surprise me they call it a symptom instead of the real problem.

Almost every problem we face today is a SYMPTOM of overpopulation, not the other way around. The universities and their idiotic, politically motivated professors and faculty need to get their heads out of their asses for a change.

  • Is it too simplistic to describe all of the worlds resource issues using the frame of overpopulation?

  • Maybe you are making it too complicated! Have you ever thought of that? We would have no issues with oil, water or food in the world if the population was 1/7th its size. None. So it really is that simple.

  • Maybe. Lets propose that birth control is the answer. That would take a generation the mean life expenctancy is 84 for female and 64 to 72 for men. This would mean that a child born today would die in the year 2094 or 2086 however peak oil will be reached at it's expotential of consumption according to the peak oil video in 2030 ish. How do we ensure the complete population disintergration of the baby boomer generation before this as they are the generation most likely to die

  • Everyones going to die sometime. If we stop or tremendously slow the birth rate, everyone will live out their life to the fullest. But, you are right, we have surpassed the peak oil threshold and even if we control population and lower its numbers naturally, we are still going to have a lot of pain in the energy field in the future. Unfortunately, we have waited too long to do something and as of today we have done nothing to curtail population.

Every day we wait our problem multiplies.

  • ppl need to be come self eff beat the NWO its all part of the plan

  • I consider Dr. Campbell to be a modern day unsung hero who's trying to wake up the world to a massive problem. And if you're trusting the Russians, Saudis or Iranians to pump more I've got a bridge to sell you in Arizona.

  • Russians, Saudis and Iranians are neither pumping more nor telling the truth about how much oil there's actually left.

  • We can look forward to a lot in the future, and you thought the future would be boring with all this MySpace and Youtube, Chris Crocker, Britney and Paris Hilton. I think we will see a very bright future for our children in a cleaner world without the car.

  • What the hell can we do? Absolutely nothing. Depopulation is on the way.

  • @He101A well i agree, there should be a maximum 2 kids per person. Should be a world law.

  • @Troforso

Society doesnt work without growth, our debt based money system allways needs growth to function.

So allthough balance is really the way to go for it just doesnt fit in the curent system, and a system of society doesnt change easily, partly becaus those who controll it like to keep their controll in whatever way thinkable, it often only changes in times of chaos, conflict and misery.

  • Colin Campbell: what an ace guy.

  • You can't run the cars, trucks, and ships on alternate energy. Alternate energy is just a drop in the bucket compared to the energy being provided by oil - especiall cheap oil.

  • In case you havent noticed, purely electric vehicles have been around for quite a while now. What you cant have-just yet- is the performance and speed of a gas-powered car in an electric vehicle. But the tradeoff is well worth it. The reality is we would have much better sources of alternative energy if the government would fund it, but they dont- and they even actively suppress it like they did with cold fusion. Next year Google will spend more on alt. energy research than the US government.

  • you are funny...where would the electricity come from? if you live in the US it would come to 80% from fossil energy... there is not enough e.g. germanium in the world to produce solar cells to produce enough electricity...

  • If people start buying solar cells, the companies will respond by innovating and creating new types of technologies. That is how the free market works. There is also wind power, hydroelectric power, thermal power, and any number of renewable technologies that could be developed.

  • This video has a very important message. The fact of rapid oil depletion all around the world is ignored by most of the mass media. But we have to face the truth that fossil energy is a finite resource and on the way of fast depletion. So we must start to kick our fossil fuel habits now. The social and economic designs of todays western societies depend too much on cheap fossil energy.

  • Fantastic, realistic and enjoying documentary.
