Chances are you wont stand to see the ground again. You'll wake up in a hospital still on your back. And days will go by as you think of that moment until you finally close your eyes to never open them again.
They know it, that's why they didn't take the chance!
"Thou who sits on thy seat shall halt with prosper."
Sry for you guys, there're many stupid noobs, who don't know how design process works... I'm also tired of having to justify any design model and why it's not functional.
following consultations with a structural engineer [who nails four wooden chair legs to the seat], a person can sit on the chair without it collapsing
hey man learn to spell weight. ya I agree, he probably didn't sit in it cus its probably a prototype or sumthin like that. interesting concept however, the level of ease at which he bends the chair makes it seem like something worth considering.
Sorry but, what the hell ? All you did was fold it and unfold it the entire time. Why don't you SIT ON IT!? Omg it was driving me crazy. I wanted to see if the chair would actually support your waight or not. Did you make this chair yourself? It does seem kind of cool. I encourage your creativity ;D Byebye. : P
Just what I was asking! They morph it back and forth but they never sit on it. I ponder the theory of a flexable chair like that, that you can actually sit on.
It's nice but walking backwards and forwards, moving a chair... how does that demonstrate compact living? Plus... you never actually sat on the chair. Can you?
I imagine it's quite uncomfortable for long periods of time though, i would like to see a chair that uses visco-elastic memory foam, that would be well comfortable!
the idea looks pretty good to me. I have my doubts if it really can hold someone sitting... i dont care what the engineer says... i understand u want to mantain that purity in the design of the legs (or whatever...) but its kind of surreal to see something soft hold your weight (what is the material?, how does it bend?). i would prefer to see a simple system that permited the same movement of the top part and the hole 2 in 1 chair. congratulations and good luck
The chair shown is a representative model and not a working prototype. Yes, following consultations with a structural engineer, a person can sit on the chair without it collapsing.
would be interesting what happened if you pressed that lever while someone was sitting on it!

that is beautiful how the cross support acts as the locking mech
brilliant design

I thought the chairs were for sitting not just walking around them????

That chair would last less then a day in America where 61% of the population is over weight.

Just kidding, that sounded funny though, in a strange way :p

Love it! That's a great mechanical principal.

neat chair. lame video of repeatedly changing chair to two positions. There is no demonstration of him seating on it. I doubt it is functional.

Now, if you only convince people that the joints on the back are strong and stable, I think you filled a much needed niche!

How do people convince themselves to design something that's not even feasible?

Why is that no one dares to sit on the chair?

BECAUSE THE UNIVERSE WILL EXPLODE!!!

probably because the legs that bend would buckle under the weight of a typical person in the upper position and you'd fall backwards

exactly my though when I saw it....

Interesting engineering.
I suspect, pins, attached to the cross bar, inside the vertical tubes, release the lowest breaking point?
I like how light you kept the overall design.
The thin black and white seat works well.
Quite smart!
Although I have doubts it will hold much weight in the up-right?
Have you done tests?

imagine yourself sitting on the chair and somebody comes up from behind and steps on the bar. lol

Kinda interesting you don't show anybody actually sitting in this clever chair.
