  • Crying here

  • no....pac-man isn't real.

  • SORRY

  • This man's name is Mark Tatum. He eventually had a face proshesis, but sadly passed away in 2005 (cause not known). The fungus is called Rhinocerebral mucormycosis, a rare opportunistic infection affecting immunocompromised patients.

Now you know (the marvel of Google).

  • The last of us

  • Holy shit i bet he scares small children

  • Why cant they simply give him a face transplant?

  • Comment removed

  • @1123359 a face transplant needs a bone structure for the donor face to be fixed onto. he lost too much of his skull that it just isn't possible.

  • this is what happens when you look at justin bieber videos.

  • You get this infection from Diabetic Ketoacidosis. If you have Type 1 diabetes, you should make sure you manage it well.

  • oh heres my sunglasses!*puts on fungus*nah just kidding, poor guy got his face removed :(

  • Nancy is a wonderful woman for sticking by her man, and he's kick-ass for surviving. All the best to them both.

  • I envy you guys. God bless her.

  • that lady.... would be one of the most beautiful lady i will encounter in my life, bless them

  • ... do I like this?

  • nice video---also see my videos on how the hindu rao hospital administration , a municipal hospital , in delhi , india is injecting patients with fungus in i/v fluids!!!

  • I was in tears when I saw this. It reminded me of a time in life where I had, what seemed like, the world against me when I was in school as a kid and it wasn't THIS bad. God bless him and his wife.

  • It's getting horrific, how medical science is able to preserve life in more and more fucked-up-beyond-all-repair bodies (while still being unable to truly repair them.) Horrific disabilities unprecedented in the history of man are now becoming commonplace. I've heard that the Iraq/Afghanistan wars have provided doctors with an unprecedented laboratory for surgical experimentation; I wonder how long until they can keep a conscious brain alive in a jar (and how many people THAT might happen to...)

  • Was this guy diabetic or had leukemia?

  • @ExplodingThunder , wouldn't try it to find out.

  • wonderful woman.

I have a tendency to see humor in everything, whether it's clean or sick. I'm not proud but I laughed a little when I noticed they did a camera shot of him "looking" out on the lake

  • Kinda funny, he was standing there pointed towards the water like he was looking at the scenery but obviously he wasn't since he has no eyes.....

  • I remember this on Ripley's. The guy was taking painrelievers for his back pain and that lowered his immune system and made this possible.

  • adversity: that which does not kill me merely postpones the inevitable

  • @THISNAMEOWNS

Trevor Goodchild: “That which does not kill us, makes us stranger”.

    (from Aeon Flux - Thanatophobia)

  • that is true love

  • I cant imagine living like this!

  • mucormycosis?

  • "really bread mold!"

  • His wife is quite possibly the perfect woman. God bless her.

  • Wow i want to know everything about him

  • I'm sorry, but I think I would prefer to die.

  • Aww, That's so sweet...

  • first apply Apple cider vineger then rinse . then Baking soda & Epsom salt mix with water make it to the paste then apply on face. kills mney kinds of fungi / mold you name it.

  • There was a Jewish guy who lives in los angeles tring to apply someone's faces with by creating mold / fungus applied over victims face while he was sleeping. Because it is difficult to proof the case. No he is on the run though.

  • he must have a great poker face.

  • @Njdevils93 TROLLOP

  • @Njdevils93 without eyes poker can be ..a little hard

  • Probably got it from eating McDonalds.

  • You find out who your friends are .. poor man, and wonderful wife.

  • Comment removed

  • Gotta hand it to this guy. I'd sooner eat 2 barrels. If this were the X-files Mulder would be looking at witchcraft for an explanation. Hardcore voodoo maybe.

  • those two are both amazing people..

  • Their love for each other kept them going. She's a hell of a lady.

  • @KevinFL

Yeah, one can only hope of growing up and finding someone that genuine, especially in this day & age.

  • Sure you live, but You cant see anything, have a weak sense of taste. Id rather go out.

  • @AlfieWilRus Same here.

  • @AlfieWilRus @Horse125 @AkemiCaffeine then you faggots never had much to live for in the first place. you pussies would prolly go cut ur lil wrists if i talked to you harshly enough. losers :)

  • He has got such a strong wife!

My husband has psoriasis very badly and he feels like a fungu is eating him (which it kind of is) and I HAVE STAYED by his side the WHOLE time.

And it's not, like someone said earlier, for the sex--who cares about that? I care that he's OK.

  • Seems like he should wear some kind of polymer shield over the front of his face for protection against invasive substances (and flying insects). Sure, he'd look like a cyborg, but it's better than getting bad stuff in there.

  • @xurumambo He has got such a strong wife!

  • What a brave man. Also a very wonderful wife he has as well.

  • Wish god made more women like HER!!

  • Wow

  • wow, he looked like such a nice guy

  • That's really amazing that's the most true love that there is. That man isn't just lucky to survive, he's lucky to know the wife he has.

  • he has this prosthetic face piece he wears over the hole to make him look nearly completely normal

  • They actually did. A mask was made to the same shade as his skin tone. Magnets were placed on his cheek bones so he was able to just place the prosthetic over his own face. The eyebrows were even made from his hair, and the glass balls were the same shade as his original color. I have been looking for a video of it but can't find one.

  • Mucor is a mold that attacks people who are severly imminosuppressed such as a transplant or cancer patient...and more importantly as in this case..someone with Diabetes not controlled. He had ketoacidosis the fungus likes it. It is able to travel through tissue and barriers like the nasal septum which is what happened in this case. He was very lucky! Supervixen no worries, if you have diabetes just keep in controlled.

  • thanks for the explanation cuz this is some freaky ass shit lol, where can Mucor Grow?

  • @ogskeetdizzle its actually a bread mold, but found in dust and dirt. I really wouldn't worry about getting this.

  • That's what I call love, love for life and love for your spouse.

  • i am scared to death of getting this. How does it happen? How does someone contract this? damn it's scary!!

  • ,,,,,,so why is this apparently on the Sci Fi channel? Are they calling him a monster?

  • @Scythemantis

I don't see why you seem so surprised that the Sci Fi channel is a televised freak show.

  • Great woman to have, he is lucky his wife loves him and stays strong throughout. Great lady.

  • dam thats fucked up.....

  • Exactly.

  • I saw a TV show once a couple year ago where plastic surgeons can now make prosthetic faces -- noses, glass eyes, etc. I'm surprised this man hasn't taken advantage of some of that. Nonetheless, it's a very powerful testament to his wife's unselfish love and commitment to him.

  • She is a damn good woman. Mark, you are surely one of the luckiest men alive! I wish you nothing but good things to come.

I have seen someone like this before. I dont think it was from a flesh eating bacteria, but the person did not have a nose and you could see clear through the back of their head. Unusual and strange indeed. I was not sure what I was seeing.

  • Luckily he was married BEFORE this happened.

  • I would want to die...no doubt about it.

  • Can he touch his brain? That would be cool.

  • Have a little of maturity when commenting.

'What goes around, comes around. '

    Never forget that

  • amen to that.

  • Oh get a sense of humor, douche bag. People like you are fucking pathetic.

  • I dont know about inspiring! They are an incredible couple no doubt but personaly I would hope to die. This is an F'N scary story!!!! Basicaly bread mold?!?!?! WTF!!!

I guess Ima walk around my house with a respirator on. I've always thought swine flu and such were way overhyped but this is scary.

    Wow.

  • That is an inspiring story.

  • He's putting a brave face on it.

  • now thats a GOOD WIFE!

  • god bless her

  • @JoshuaG97 Admirable of his wive. Respect.

  • he's lucky to have that woman

  • beautiful lady :)

  • brave lady.... god bless her... true love..

  • @tahirdobaz

    *puts on sunglasses*

There ain't no god involved here.

  • thats right, let God bless her alot/ and true love will always rule

  • i believe in god, but it still would be good to have actual proof

  • That's fucked. If i lose my sight EVER. I'm putting a S&W 50 cal through my head.

    That poor man.

  • @esoterical73 lol how would u know that its a S&W 50 cal? maby a sniper or a shotgun? how wud u know

  • honestly i wouldnt chose life in that case. just couldnt live that way

  • This is pretty amazing. I would not have guessed somebody could survive and be functional after that. What a couple of strong people. Really makes me feel good to know he has her to help him through it.

  • God didnt make him eat moldy bread dumbass

  • "is really bread mold"

"worse then the flesh eating virus"

  • i think that he is standing during this interview outdoors like he is looking out over some water.. what a majestic view... too bad he has no eyes to enjoy it

  • My step uncle is the plastic surgeon who worked on this man. This ocurred very rapidly. He supposedly ate bread mold which led to infection. He woke up blind one morning and that was the first hint at a problem. And as for creating new eyes and a nose somehow, that's just not in the cards with our current tech. They had to cut out the infected tissue before it spread to his brain and killed him. There was no time to ponder any other fixes.

  • metalero imagine if u had that disease u prik!! his missus is fantastic for sticking by his side, ure comment is just pathetic

  • WHY IS THIS ON THE "SCI-FI" CHANNEL!?

  • 1) this infection developed over a LONG period of time, and the only symptom was probably a runny nose. nothing serious right??

    2) we don't have the technology to save sensory receptor-rich tissues like the eyes, nose, and mouth. and we won't. not for a long time. neurons have to be reconnected, they don't just re-grow. that's why there are so many para- and quadropelegics. nerve damage takes years or decades to repair, transplants don't last that long or work that well.

  • oh, and stem cells probably wouldn't work either. they're not the miracle you want to believe they are. you can grow something that looks the same but doesn't work, or something that works (kinda) but doesn't look the same. it's a trade off, and one that wasn't available at the time, this looks like late 90's, when mr clinton was president.

  • q loco!.. conserva los bigotes!

  • metalaro.. you must have a small dick..

  • i think i have a 'normal dick'

  • should've allowed stem cell research. Oh well, christians are against it so thats apparently a strict no-no.

  • OMFG are we so behind on technology that we can't save a man's eyes, nose, and mouth. god this pisses me off. for no reason he has to live with this.

  • are you retarded?

  • ...nooo???

  • i was just wondering how come they didn't catch this before it got so bad?

  • brutal

  • poor guy...

  • that is the sweetest woman in the entire world

    that is true fucking love

  • dam that sucks

  • Praise God for a real woman like that. That's what true love is all about.

  • And thank Jesus Christ, our lord, for face eating, life destroying, deadly fungus.

Funny how nobody notices THAT one...

  • things that are harmful to us are created from our waste. things we do affect our enviroment and inevitably affect the chemical changes in organisms. It isnt gods fault. He gave us essentials and left the rest up to us .....SO DONT BE A JACKASS!

  • I'll stop being a "Jackass" the second you stop worshipping invisible sky wizards.

I would LOVE to see the source of your information that states that face eating bacteria is a result of human waste products leaching into the environment.

Yes, leachate CAN lead to harmful environmental effects, but the sudden mutation of face eating funghi is pretty impossible.

Please, next time you want to research science, try a more reputable source than The SImpsons.

  • Why did God invent waste to begin with? Why not just make a more efficient system and bypass that altogether? He seems content to fill the world with brutally horrific dangers and expects us to avoid it and just accept His 'mysterious ways'. Sounds like an excuse to make up for the fact His design is flawed.
