Great tune! Perfect performances from Ricks singing, to Garth's saloon piano, to Richards drumming and high harmony. And Robbie has a great solo! Why was this song shelved for so many years? It was better than some songs on Islands.
it's amazing how The Band's last recorded song is as good as their first tunes. this would have fit right in with their stuff before the 1966 tour. you know, 'stones i throw', 'rainmaker', 'uh uh uh'.
I cant for the life of me figure out why this wasnt released prior to hte boxset, this is a true gem.

It seems their song sketches are almost better then the actual songs!

@HalfBornUnicornFetus That's because they are more spontaneous and not as thought out. They are so beautiful!

Wow....catchy number, excellent chorus. Dig the band but some of their stuff was a little precious. This is great though.

So so good. Reminds me of a drunken Toy Story song.

Rick's voice just sounds so sincere. This could be corny but not with Rick singing it. I love it.

Richard on drums I think.

@Markgr122
i'd recon that to be true. whenever garth was on the piano, richard usually took over drum duties.
flesheatingbull 1 year ago
@flesheatingbull i disagree. thats levon drumming all day (listen to the fill at 1:08). richard - rhythm piano/keyboard and garth - lead piano
sharpie871 4 months ago
@sharpie871 you're right, the drumming is too precise.

@flesheatingbull upon closer listening bull, i may have been mistaken. might you also hear levon on mandolin?

One of my favorite tunes by my favorite band. Very obscure, glad to see it's getting some exposure.
