The SS broke some very serious maritime laws. They rammed a CCGS for one, disobeyed direct orders, and appears to have attempted to run over sealers. They allege the arrest is illegal as they are in International waters - by saying this they are intentionally misleading the public. At furthest they were in the 200 mile economic zone. Maritime law clearly states the following regarding foreign vessels: Vessels must transit the waters in a most direct manner that is safe and without delay.

The Ship was not rammed. The ship was "ORDERED" by the Canadian Coast Guard to go into port. They refused that order. It was upon their refusal to follow this order that the Farley Mowat and it's crew of environuts should have been fired upon. They should be thankful they were arrested instead of shot or tasered to death. Next time they might not be so lucky.

Most coast guard's of other nations are military. In a world where the threat of terrorism is prevalant, military ships can and will respond with deadly force when other vessels are actively belligerent. It is obvious that the icebreaker is moving astern because of the wake after the second "ramming", so it was action on the part of the agressive eco terrorist ship. They're in international waters and a coast guard ship has no more authority there than any other ship. The coast guard had the other ship to starboard. The coast guard violated international law by not giving way, and committed an act of war by purposely ramming a ship flying under another country's flag.

Speaking from a Vol. Fire Fighter point of view, I see it like this: Yes, it's wrong that seals are getting slaughtered, but there are many situations in which we have have had to wall up to prevent individuals from getting into areas that they need not be in if only for their own safety. One could cry conspiracy all they want, but I can't help but think the Coast Guard's nudges were little more than an attempt to brush the Sea Sheperds away from possibly being trapped by ice and needing rescue.
