Ok can someone tell me where to find Mudvayne's more technical stuff?

My friend was telling me that they're essentially trying to mix the mainstream appeal of Slipknot with the "WTF is going on" technicality of Meshuggah. I can kinda hear the appeal of Slipknot in there, but I hear no relation to a Meshuggah level of technicality whatsoever.

@iamangelslayer13 No, actually I have multiple years of ear training through music theory, though as I am a drummer I'm losing hearing in my right ear from our monitor being so god damn loud.

However, compared to my earlier example of Meshuggah this is still nowhere near on the same level. Yes it's definitely not rudimentary, but it's not the mind boggling groove that is most Meshuggah songs. Hell this is isn't even as complex grooves as some Opeth, Porcupine Tree, TesseracT etc. etc.

@Nubnut A song that's talking about someone's dying grandmother's family refusing to see her in her last moments is by no means under ANY obligation to try and live up to another band let alone defeat it. Music is about expressing yourself, not proving how much better you are than everyone else. Also, I kind of doubt this song was meant to have any groove to it. It's obviously a song meant for multiple, rapid impacts, hence the variation in the lyrics.

Hell the main thing I always see brought up when talking about Opeth's death metal side (both for comparing and judging) is Master's Apprentices. Which is about Mikael's last moments with his father as he was dying.

It's a simple fact of music that it will happen.

I don't like the term nu metal cause it seems to have negative connotations just because they don't all take turns doing solo's throughout the album have long hair that they could never cut if they want to sell albums and make "nu metal" if you like that label go ahead by all means use it but I like to call it metal. Maybe you don't understand it but Slipknot is unlike any other band out there. Sure there have been different lineups of the band. But have that spirit of creating something new.

My cousin let me hear Happy? off of Lost and Found and I immediately went out and bought the album. Then I bought The New Game and Mudvayne when they came out. I think my favorite album by them is The New Game.

@welikefunnyvids That Disturbed video isn't exactly scary in my opinion, but it's definitely pretty crazy. I'm still somewhat on the bridge about it. I'd personally rather them turn "My Child" into a music video. But, on the flipside they've already made a music video involving the death of someone close. I say they make one for Innocence or Serpentine.
