I LOVED old school Incubus. Alex Katunich really brought the funk with some of the most SICK bass lines I've ever heard. He and Mike (guitar) are seriously underrated musicians. But yeah, they may have changed bassists, Hell, they even changed STYLES completely with the new album.. but I will always love them and be a dedicated fan. :) Don't worry Incubus, I've got your back... AND a ticket to your Thursday night concert in Dallas. :D <3
ahh. . 1997. . .i used to be the loser in our elem class since i was left alone to listen to incubus/311/metallica and all the good shit which almost no one understood
but when highschool came by, they all bow down :))
@chrmalloy :) i always wonder when he realized. Mike said in an interview that he realized Brandon had a great voice when they did Anti-gravity Love Song
@DarthMohammed you know... Why talk about about Faith No More going in a different direction... When KoRn makes music exactly likes this? You might as well talk about KoRn (in their first 3 albums) lol.
@MrHutchie71 this sounds happy to you??? Omg... I don't know what to say to you. This song creates the impression of being insane, going crazy because of pressure - KoRn's trademark feel.
@allollolla maybe your computers not in stereo.?? i got headphones on u can change from mon to stereo and it deff in stereo for me u can tell the difference
lol i like how people are all obsessed over one incubus over another. incubus is and always has been a good band, their sounds have changed over the years to something entirely different, but its not bad. its good, just meladolic and peaceful
This is definitely an offshoot of Funk-Rock, similar to RHCP - To say they "Just play hat feels right to them." is a little crazy; what feels right is the influences they've picked up along the way - otherwise, music in India wouldnt feature high-pitched Indian females, J- and K-Pop wouldnt sound like Boy/Girl Bands with a Discotheque vibe, and Radiohead wouldnt sound like Nirvana who wouldnt sound like emulsified reaction to SynthPop of the 80s.
science and fungus amongus are very similar... but I personally like the others a little better- granted, I still enjoy science and then fungus amongus
Yes. I discovered this sound way before I found out their history and how they turned mainstream. Also SCIENCE was on a major label but it was funky and metallic like this. Still I like all their work.
@KanuZankoro funny... for me was the opposite. I knew of them (the mainstream incubus) and i hated their guts (and still do), but i've been a funk metal fanatic since forever and my girlfriend introduced me to fungus amongus, i just couldn't believe it was the same band. a true Funk metal masterpiece
@basketballfg It's really just the big man telling them to try "a little bit less funk", a little more "standard four-chord songs", "a little less scratching", "make the next one a little less aggressive".
If it weren't for the man's opinion forced onto us, funk-aggro rock, ska, psychobilly, and so forth would be on major labels still like they were in the 90's. Reel Big Fish, for example, NEVER changed their love and their fan base is international, huge and growing by generation.
@basketballfg That being said, I own the incubus albums from Fungus - Crow. I learned to enjoy Crow. Lyrically, it's great. Musically, it's still pretty decent. If any newer incubus stuff is on the radio, I won't the change the station.
@basketballfg Of course, RBF had to leave the label they were on, which had become predominantly hip-hop in order to be ALLOWED to play the music they wanted to play without someone looking over their shoulder. There are no more major ska or punk labels, because someone decided that most people like a few types of music, 50% of which is hip-hop, and they're all just sampling themselves eventually. The radio decided for you what was worthwhile to hear. "Turn the Radio Off"

Shithole, Incubus were great! I say "were" because, you know, they now are under their agent control, has the Red Hots are. At least, Primus still sucks, yeah.
No, lke the RHCP (which is actually my favorite band) they are just playing music that feels natural and right to THEM. Of course, Incubus went through a change of bassist which removed the funk.
@KanuZankoro ,,,if you read the liner notes for Fungus Amongus it says "we were wanting very badly to be Primus,Mr.Bungle, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers all rolled into one."
Haha shit man that's clever! How could I not notice! xD Imagine how great this band would be with Mike Patton rapping like he did on Squeeze me Macaroni (Mr Bungle)
well, drugs were a HUGE part of the whole grunge scene, without heroine (which im not condoning in any way ._.) more than half of AIC songs wouldnt exist. but then again, layne and kurt still would :(
