  • That last song hes channeling sam cooke.

  • Where does the pick?

    Magically 1:50

  • @kikiraya He holds a pick in the palm of his hand while fingerpicking, then just lets it drop into his fingers!

  • PLEASE let this be on his next LP. He's just that bluesy kinda guy. Great man!

  • this better be on an album soon... i know he had vocal issues last september but does anyone know when the cd born and raised will come out ?

  • I like how John's favorite Hendrix album is Axis: Bold as Love. It's the album why I play guitar today.

  • wish i could be as fluent switching from finger picking to using a pick and strumming..1:52

  • @zschelske1 take your pick everywhere you go and always switch from middle and pointer finger to pick in its normal position...sorry for the poor english :( but i hope you know what i mean)

  • @zschelske1

    You can! just practice it.

  • The one person who disliked this obviously did not click the play button

  • add some oldies R&B electric guitar and ''it takes a fool'' becomes all around gold.

  • He is absolutely amazing in every way!!

  • Thumbs up for the "ALRIGHT NOW" guy.

  • I can't wait to hear this song on the actual record.

  • Someone is laughing all the time even when he says something that's not funny. Hahahaha *fake laugh*

  • it sounds more like brook benton and dinah washington "baby, you got what it takes" than anything else

  • why the hell is it not october yet? i just wanna go see him live again

  • Gotta say, I'm REALLY looking forward to this song being on his next album. It's poppy, yet also has a bluesy progression to it. Glad to know he's not straying too far from his roots.

  • That "It Takes a Fool" sounds a little bit like a Smokey Robinson type song, not necessarily him but you get what I mean, sounds so cool :)

  • Does anyone have a tab for 'it takes a fool'? I got the first riff down but I'm lost after that, such a great and catchy tune.

  • Hope 'It Takes A Fool' makes it on his next album!!

  • I don't know why but the "it takes a fool" song reminds me of Sam Cooke... Did anyone else had the same??

  • @knakkerrrrrr I initially posted that it was a Sam Cooke cover, before someone pointed out to me that it wasn't. lol.

  • @violetskyye which sam cooke tune?

  • @knakkerrrrrr Sounds more like SRV - So Excited

  • love this new song, sounds like he is going bluesy on the next record.

  • I LOVE the one he wrote. 'It Takes A Fool' is fitting for his voice. And it has that sort of "character play" I like.

Though I know he's like, "Damn, WhY I gotta be such a fool?" Lol ^_^ ...I Been there.

  • kinda weak stuff he's done recently I think personally. his dylan cover is great, but he's banging out songs as quick as possible based more on the feeling rather than any actual unique qualities. like that isn't even a decent guitar riff. i'd be disappointed hearing that on a miley cyrus album, let alone on a john mayer album. the lyrics are pretty weak too. melody is fine, but nothing special.. i dunno, just not the same level of his previous stuff

  • @thebuildproject

wow are you serious?? i actually think this stuff is way better than his last album battle studies, I love the new direction hes taking. lyrics are weak?? why dont you try writing lyrics like that then you can talk

  • @4TheMus1c calm down. im a huge mayer fan. i just hold him to higher standards in my opinion. he's fallen backwards since continuum. there were weak songs on continuum too, like in repair. great lyrics, but you could tell it was written in a day. compare that to a song like wheel or slow dancing, great lyrics, incredible feel, great guitar. definitely were NOT written in day. he toyed with wheel the whole time he was writing heavier things in the studio and it shows. i just think he's rushing

  • @thebuildproject

I agree with you on the In Repair thing, to an extent. I used to hate I.R., but I eventually found the genius behind it, especially his acoustic version from the Village Sessions. Yeah he wrote it in one day but that just shows his prowess; he can dish out a track in one day better than most artists entire albums. Battle Studies wasn't as strong as Continuum, but I still hold it higher than most other artists albums. He's got so much more for us coming I can feel it hah!

  • @surfer1211 his acoustic version? are you kidding? his guitar playing on in repair is fucking genius.

  • @25Ragz

Yes his acoustic version. The In Repair from the Village Sessions is genius. The acoustic solo is composed brilliantly. It has to be one of the best acoustic solos of all time. Like I said I used to loathe I.R. It was the single song on Continuum I would skip. Than I found the glory in it. It really is an amazing track; rhythm, solo, and vocals, its all amazing. The "Guitar-monies," are sick also; on top of the fact that he wrote it in one day. I just prefer the acoustic version is all.

  • @surfer1211 Thats cool.. its definitely not the best acoustic solo.. he has better.

..But yeah its an amazing song and that version is awesome. You should look around for some electric versions.. he has some pretty amazing solos in that song. Also check out some of my songs on my channel.. No video but i have a lot of live mayer in amazing quality.. some of my favorite versions of his songs... Some amazing solos and the links to Download each song and the full concerts if you want.

  • @thebuildproject I never really used to like In Repair but it's now one of my favourites - most of mayer's songs (especially from continuum) have been among favourites though.. I think it's foolish to criticise him writing a song in a day though - some of the greatest music ever written was written in a day. If you dwell on it too long you can lose the feel of it i think..

As for what mayer's writing at the moment - from what I've heard I like the feel of what he's doing, he seems more free..

  • @thebuildproject continuum does not have any bad songs you dumbass ...in repair is fucking amazing.the guitar playing is incredible.you are not a huge mayer fan.youre a huge dbag

  • @25Ragz that is one accurate and hilarious comment. lol

  • @4TheMus1c yeah battle studies wasnt that great.johns starting to get into his serious stuff now.I cant wait until he starts focusing on guitar. ..but yeah this new stuff is amazing

  • which one or what is the name of the sam cooke song here?

  • @spencejo I don't believe it is a Sam Cooke song, I think it's an original by John that's very much influenced by Sam. So the title for the video maybe labeled a little wrong. I'm a big fan of both Sam and John and I've never come across the song 'It Takes A Fool To Love You' before.

  • My new favorite song! Thanks for posting! If you have more please keep them coming out!!! :)

  • A Fool to Love you...Sam Cooke would be proud!

  • @milliganstratman I had the exact same response. I know from previous interviews that John's a fan of Sam Cook but I've hardly ever heard Sam's influence through his music. This song Rocks and I hope its on the album.

  • he didnt write this. and whats up w the stache!?

  • @milliganstratman yes he did retard

  • Comment removed

  • @milliganstratman shut the fuck up

i thought he was talking about a fool to love you because other people were sayong it was sam cooke. and john mayer is an amazing song writer he's wrote songs that are better than jimi songs. ..so shut the fuck up

  • man he's on fire

  • Wondering if John will ever write anything that I don't love. Nope, probably not.

  • @DonnaFirsty he didnt write it.

  • @rokinsam what are you talking about? ...he did write this song

  • @25Ragz i meant up from the skies my bad

  • I am not going to get that Andy Kaufman bit out of my head :)

  • More??? Sweet!

  • really liking these new songs especially this one, if this is where his head is at i cant wait for his next record

  • ah, in love with these videos! thank you so, so much for putting these up. Mayernation seriously loves you right now! excited to see the rest, hopefully those include more new songs. (;

  • Let Me Talk To You is actually "Up From the Skies" by Jimi Hendrix

  • @LukeRobinson10 Thanks, Luke. I should know that, being such a rabid music fan. :)

  • @violetskyye you're rabid?

  • lol, let me talk to you, kinda sounds david ryan harris.
