Hi. I like to write my own lyrics and guitar riff's but I cant sing and play at the same time so all I to do want to record my guitar riff's on the Boss Micro then record my lyrics over it then do the same with each song I have wrote. My dad is trying to help me with it but where having trouble. Please help
To the folks who say it's too complicated, a nightmare, or want to know how you "just plug in and record" look up multi-track recording and decide if you need to do that. If so, everything in these videos is exactly what you need. If not, buy a simple mp3 recorder like you'd use for a lecture.
I am sorry but minutes of a supposed beginner tutorial and you haven't shown how to record anything. How about you show how to just plug in a guitar and mic and sing a song and record it?
@JannaMusic Yes. The small input on the right is for mic or line. The machine will know which it is and compensate for the (higher) line level input from your keyboard.
@gravelroadmedia Nice! Thank you! Can you also create loops/layers? For example: record a riff, then it will loop. record a layer on top of that, and then the two will loop together, etc?
If you want something simple and easy to use, then this is not the machine for you, had i known before hand, i would not have bought this recorder and would certainly not recommend it to anyone. to sum it up ITS A COMPLETE NIGHTMARE
great videos ! thank you! i gut a korg sos last weam but returned it cause of the noise coming from the 1/4" jack, awful! so im go na try on of these , although i hate going thru a bunch a steps , but maybe ill get used to it . could you please tell me a couple things? can you add on recording time to an existing track? can u record multiple parts or instruments on one track ? and can u loop more than one track at a time ? Thanks for your help , best videos ive found!
@rkisf90 Yes, in mp3 mode, you can listen and play along. You can slow down the original to make it easier to keep up, and "center cancel" to EQ down a certain frequency of the song to "take out" the part you want to replace (page 36-38 of manual). To record a cover w/ multi -track, etc, you must be in normal song mode (not mp3). Copy/record the orginal onto a track for reference, then layer your parts onto the other 3 tracks. Bounce as needed and delete original from final mix.
@xIT500 Ummm, I don't recall using a stereo input personally, and I'm not able to test it right now, but I think you need to select INPUT>>LIN, then when you press REC, select tracks 1&2 (or 3&4), i.e., press two buttons simultaneously, then press PLAY to record the stereo pair. Give it a try and let me know. I'm traveling right now.
heyy, i got my one this morning, 2nd hand off ebay, and i tried listening to the demo to start with, but there is no sound coming from it, do you know if its broken or is there a way it can be fixed??
@MetallicBitch222 Don't wanna assume too much, but are you using headphones and is the volume slider on the left turned up? The thing doesn't have a built-in speaker. Also, is the demo song still on there? Mine was gone day one. To test your own creation, press input button, select button under MIC to make it large, then mp3 button, then record/play. (with input level turned up on the right side wheel) Stop when done, rewind if necessary, and playback. You've just dipped a toe in the ocean.
@gravelroadmedia well iv got a bit more used to it n i see now that the song wasnt actually on the demo! its such a relief, but i couldnt help freakin out a bit this mornin :P im recording n lookin into the drum tracks n stuff, but i'v yet to figure out how to adjust the left and right guitars, these vids are a godsend!
@mojoefly As for 1. you can do a re-take on another virtual track and not lose the first take, but if you need to make that first take work, you can set an in and out point, then delete that bad portion. Can't describe it here, but look at page 58 of manual. If you don't have a manual, download it.
2. Bouncing creates space for layering more tracks. If you don't need more tracks, just go straight to mastering. Good Luck!
@sepultura7771 Don't give in to the dark side! The machine probably has too many capabilities with too little interface, but maybe that's better than the other way around. (you know, any easy to use machine that does nothing.)
@cmpciara123 I don't think so. MP3 mode is a simple, straightforward single-track recorder. What you describe requires a multi-track approach, or normal mode on the BR. These multi-track recordings can be converted to mp3 or WAV through the mastering mode once the recording is finished.
Thank you very much for your work, its really appreciated - your videotutorial helped me a lot to do my first steps by using my new micro br . I think its an amazing toy to play around with for demoing or learning new songs. I think I´ll have lots of fun with it!
@lagmuncher I would experiment with the onboard mic. First thing is it's a condenser mic and too sensitive to close mic an amp cranked to 11, but you can experiment with decreasing sensitivity of the mic (SNS number) and reducing input gain on the dial. I would also use some sound deadening like pillows around the amp/ recorder to reduce reflected sound. Also, you can turn on effects and apply front side compression / limiter to avoid clipping the signal. Keep OVER light from coming on. G'luck.
Thanks,I look around for instruction on the BR as I have had mine for well over a year and never used it, everwhere I look is people showing how clever they are at using it and not showing a simple way to use it,to get going,Thanks,I will be taking it out of the box again and coming back to your instructions...thanks again
i have the music in wave format in my computer, but when i try to upload it to utube it gives me a message that it failed to upload. thaxs for answering b4
how can i post my recordings on utube directly from the br without any backround noise , not thru speakers but straight to the computer .I tried a three line stereo cable from the output jack but i hear a hiss in the final recording. thaxs
@905rouzies output jack? are you using the headphone out? The audio isn't really usable until you convert it to mp3. Either record in mp3 mode and hook up to your computer, or if recording in normal (non mp3 mode) finish recording, select the mastering mode and master the recording out. No video on that, but I have described it in several comment posts. You will find the mp3 in the BR folder when you attach it to your computer.
@swrbassamp i think the answer is yes. no time to check just now, but you can copy a track to another track using the utility button. then, i presume you want to pan one left, one right to spread out the stereo field. Good luck and let me know how it works.
@swrbassamp It is possible when you choose your recording trackit is possible to press both 1 and 2 track and choose mic and it shuld double it up. Hope this helps
Is it possible to plug my guitar into a pedal/amp then into the Micro BD? Ive found a really nice sound with my big muff and Wah set up "wrong" and i would like to record it.
@gravelroadmedia I have not brought it yet, I was asking because im thinking of getting it. In theory could i plug my guitar jack into amp, then from the head phones socket on my amp to the imput/line in of the Boss BR?
@harris361 I'm not a cable guru, but I think it would work. The BR also has a boatload of guitar effects though you may prefer to stick with just your pedal effects and have BR effects turned off.
Hello, and thanks for your reply. I have found out the problem.i master the song first, and then export it..and then add the songs to my pc..BUT..the level is very low when i play the song on my pc....anyone who can help me?? Thanks
Hi..i have aBoss BR micro recorder, but when i have done the songs and mastering them, i connect the recorder to my PC...........but the word "idling" shows up, and i do not know what to do to go on. Thanks.
@iwarov not sure. I googled it and the comments seem to indicate a driver issue between your computer and the BR. I have never seen that (mac) but you might want to look into updating drivers. The only thing you can do on the BR itself is make sure the SD card is formatted using the utility menu.
@eatmyorangemarmalade not familiar with br600, but the BR has 80 guitar patches, three of which are bass clean, bass crunch, and bass solo. So I guess you could experiment with that and the guitar patches.
@gravelroadmedia Just got my BR and I'm very excited to get going. However, at the beginning of U'r presentation you selected 'mp3' when I do that on mine, it says 'Unsoppurted Format'. Am I doing s'thing wrong?
@gravelroadmedia Thnx for U're reply. For some odd reason the MICRO BR is only compatable with 1GB and some 2GB cards. I was trying to use an 8GB. A simple switch of cards resolved the issue. Thnx for your feedback and your extremely helpful uploads.
@DeADKband Yeah, I tried the same thing once, but had forgotten about it. I guess they didn't foresee the days of cheap higher capacity SD cards. The good news is you can record lots of music on 1G and keep separate projects on different cards.
@gravelroadmedia I've been using my Micro BR for a few months now thanks to these videos you've posted online. It's been an absolute blast. Well, I have a band and we just started to play this year, how is the best way to record our songs in the Micro BR? Can we record the Voice without a Micro?

1. i made a slight error in the beggining of a guitar track i recorded. i wanna delete the first 2 seconds in the intro.is this possible to do?

@HeavyMetalHearted Let's see,
1. input button >> MIC selects the built in mic, not what you want if guitar or external mic is plugged in
2. sensitivity (Sns) : make sure it isn't turned all the way down
3. input level wheel (right side) : probably 90 or better
4. start at measure 01-1-00 press red button (rec) then play button to record, rewind before playback
5. volume level wheel on left side: 90 or better
6. make sure headphones are working
7. still nothing? try another input

StupidVids2009 1 year ago
@StupidVids2009 I think the BR has potential as a sound recorder for your video work. You'll need a mixer / preamp to plug the xlr mic into that has a line out for the BR. The other issue is the synching the sound. The NTSC video standard for 30 frames per second is really 29.96 fps, so once you sync up the recorded sound, it will tend to drift slowly off and lips won't match voices. I'm sure there are ways around this, but I'm not able to research it right now. Plz chime in if you know.
gravelroadmedia 1 year ago
@StupidVids2009 Oh yeah, the 4 tracks are for multitrack recording, layering the parts of a song using multiple takes. You won't need to do that for your videos, just select mp3, and when you press rec/play choose WAV for the best audio quality.

But if you want portability and are willing to learn this fairly cryptic interface, this is an outstanding recorder (imo).

gravelroadmedia 1 year ago
@CrayonAndStuff oh hell ya i bought mine last month and just barley unlocking its abilitys and omg iven the built in mic works great
MrGruntgrunt 1 year ago
@CrayonAndStuff In order of importance, here's what matters:
1. the performance
2. the performance
3. the performance
4. the set up (good mic, mic pre-amp, good instrument, proper technique)
5. the signal chain (good cables, good connections)
6. the recording equipment
Obviously all these are important, but what I'm saying is the micro BR won't be the weak link for 99.9% of projects.
