@arvindpradhan These r the best comments ever made for this all time best divine Thumari in Raag Bhairavi sung by KL Saigal, the greatest singer ever in light and light classical music with magical voice and voice culture not imitated so far by any one---"This is an all time great Bhairavi. Devi Parvati must be stopping whatever she is doing to listen to this!".
This thmumari in raga bhairavi was composewd by Nawab Wajid Ali Shah of Lucknow when he was dethroned by the British and sent Calcutta. Many singers have sung it. But the intense soul-churning pathos found is Saigal's rendering has not been captured, let alone surpassed, in anybody's else's singing. Wajid Ali Shah would have offered his throne to Saigal if he had heard it!
WELL 1ST TIME I HERD SOME LINES OF THIS SONG IN MOVIE POORAB AUR PASHCHIM OF MANOJ KUMAR AFTER THE SONG JAB ZERO DIYA MERE BHARAT NE, AND AFTER THAT ONLY I WAS LOOKING FOR THIS SONG FROM SO MANY MANY YEARS, BUT THANKS TO YOUTUBE TO UPLOAD THE GRATE SONG LIKE THIS OF A GRATE SINGER LIKE K L SAIGAL. THOUGH MY AGE IS 28 AND I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT HIM BUT ONE CAN IMAGINE HOW HE WOULD HAVE SUNG OTHER SONGS OF HIS GOLDEN CAREIR.
This is such a classic one -- What a voice -- He was the 1st Superstar of the Indian movies born on 11th April -- Next one born on 11th Dec (Dilip) and next one Rajesh Khanna (29th -- 2+9=11) and Bachchan sahab also 11th Oct.
KL Saigal's base is unmatched and the EASE with which he sung this such a difficult one is mindboggling..!!! Also check same one by Pt BHIMSEN JOSHI -- That too is a GEM!!!!!
@gorepatil Miracles are too common and hence the connection with numerology only encourages irrationality. Mathematician Littlewood proved that it is just a consequence of large numbers. In fact, he shows that an individual can expect miracles at a rate of one per month.
When I was younger (15 yrs old approx.), i liked listening to KL saigal. And this song in particular. Some of my friends could notunderstand why i listen to such music, really they could not know the sweetness, the sadeness of this ongoing farewell in pure indian tradition. Even here in mauritius.
this song is from the movie street singer not from devdas. it is repeated 3 times in movie and once it is as duet sang by 2 legends Saigal Sahib and Kanan Devi Sahiba
This is an all time great Bhairavi. Devi Parvati must be stopping whatever she is doing to listen to this!

@thehappiestman yes you are right. I am the happiest woman after this song. The strange thing is that KLS had had no formal training in music.
