This thmumari in raga bhairavi was composewd by Nawab Wajid Ali Shah of Lucknow when he was dethroned by the British and sent Calcutta. Many singers have sung it. But the intense soul-churning pathos found is Saigal's rendering has not been captured, let alone surpassed, in anybody's else's singing. Wajid Ali Shah would have offered his throne to Saigal if he had heard it!

This is such a classic one -- What a voice -- He was the 1st Superstar of the Indian movies born on 11th April -- Next one born on 11th Dec (Dilip) and next one Rajesh Khanna (29th -- 2+9=11) and Bachchan sahab also 11th Oct.

KL Saigal's base is unmatched and the EASE with which he sung this such a difficult one is mindboggling..!!! Also check same one by Pt BHIMSEN JOSHI -- That too is a GEM!!!!!
