The guy that goes by "bigboytenor" has a serious problem. These guys are a "power harmony" quartet. Sceaming high tenors and growling low bass singers are part of the show. Get over it man and enjoy it for what it is. Oh, if you don't like it then go listen to some lame "snob style" music. Sounds like it fits your personality.
Folks... if you have an opportunity to see this quartet in concert GO DO IT. They are remarkable -- incredibly better than what is projected in this audio and video clip... and I mean no disrespect to the person who posted it. They are truly unbelievable. They are incredible guys with great sound, fun entertainment and a wonderful message. They are the Spoken 4 Quartet. Look them up on the web.
Are you serious? Thomas totally blew the ending. There was no need to go there, but he did it anyways. Just sing the tonic and move on. Falsetto screaming, not good, certainly not great.
Do you have problem when Rozie Rosell, Jay Parrack, Ernie Phillips, Bobby Clark, Shaw, Wynn, and the other great tenors did the same thing. I don't know if your comment is from jealousy, hate, or you lift yourself by dogging others. I have never heard this tenor before, but he did not blow it, I have heard Jay Parrack and Steve Ladd and others do the same thing in concert. They do not do it on every song but it definitely gets a rousing response from the crowd.
I have listened to and sung gospel many years and Southern gospel is anything but singing the tonic. Tight vocals yes, great harmony yes. Groups that just sing roots, thirds, fifths and tonics perform locally, those that have the talent and range to color the harmonies and arrangements with extraordinary vocal mixing and sounds tour the country in shiny buses and have record deals.
I don't care for any tenor doing that, regardless of his name. No jealousy, hate or lifting myself up either. I have a masters in vocal performance and teach voice and yes he did blow it. He was out of tune and sounded strained. The crowd goes nuts because, quite frankly, they don't know any better.
Well, at least everybody is having a good time. Who cares if the crowd knows or not? If they knew it, it would completely take away from the enjoyment of the music. I have a friend who has perfect pitch, and he says he has a hard time enjoying music as much because all he does is analyze everything.
No he isn't unreal, there are some more with that gift given by nature, who can actually get as low as and sing in a range between C2 and C3.
For clear definition:
In notation C2 is the lowest possible C on the piano. The so called middle C (the usual split between right and left hand and between treble and bass key) is C5.
This definition to make clear what range we are actually talking about.
And this guy is actually singing F2 (between C2 and C3), about 1 octave below standard bass
Actually the lowest C on a piano can be referred to as a C1 depending on the sysytem to which you refer. Most commonly middle C is considered C4 rather than C5.
There are systems that start on the lowest A on the piano and go from A to A. Also there are some that consider the octave below the lowest A as octave 1. There are some that start on the lowest C on the piano as C1 and anything below that is numbered 0. It's not really set in stone.
Jesus, hes crazy, he shook the rafters! I <3 bass singers, and this guy is one of my favorites, I'd put him close to Paul Kennamer even, and Cecil is funny as hell too.
Doesn't change the fact I was complementing him. And why do you arrogant numbskulls always sign your comments...I can see your name at the top of it! Plus, you are one prudish human being. "Hell" is a very, very mild word, idiot. Do you have a problem with people saying "Jesus", do you really hate him that much? I love your poetry on your Myspace page btw, you're a real Lord Byron. Good job, prude.

@1234JDParris5678 FYI - I was offered the job as their tenor about 3 1/2 years ago when Chuck was leaving. Don't get exercise jumping to conclusions.
