How to remove Carrier IQ (CIQ) on EI22 Gingerbread on the Samsung Epic 4G

qbking77, thanks a million for all of your videos. I followed your instructions and got the same results but after running the "Carrier IQ Detector" app, it says "Your device does have Carrier IQ". To test again, I tried the "Voodoo CarrierIQ" app and it says "Carrier IQ elements found - however it seems inactive". It gave a detection score of 170. Is it removed or are there some more details I can give you?

@fitzee21 Some parts of CIQ need to be kept on the device so the device can function, but they aren't active. So you're fine :)

@qbking77 Thanks a lot for the reply and the help. I was able to learn this after reading kOnane's post on XDA. However, after running adding the deodexed ROM and this, my phone is unable to import contacts from VCF files citing "Failed to parse vCard for unexpected reason...". I ended up loading the VCF into Google then linking from there. I guess that is probably a better option anyways in case my phone crashes :) Thanks again man, you've been a life saver for my new phone!

After installing this zip on my EI22 Epic I get a reboot about 20 seconds after the phone boots up. Over and Over.

im sorry to say this but im running the macusantROM on my epic 4g and i have a lower ciq rating than this fix (170 on marcusant and a 270 with this) is there a way to make it lower and i know anything below 200 with it saying that ciq is disabled is good but id still like to have a 0 rating.

Bit confused here. I've followed your excellent instructions for the stock recovery fix then then moved on to the root and clockwork mod instruction before doing this CIQ fix. Everything seems to be as it should be, except, after a couple hours, CIQ appears to be back, it doesn't even take a reboot for it to be back. Checking per Voodoo Detector. Any thoughts? This is all quite new to me so I'm learning as I go.

I am certainly liking this better battery life though, my usual two hours and recharge has extended to ten hours so far today.

And with your other video where you explain that you mispronounced "conain" why didn't you remake the video (1) & (2) done any testing with & without CIQ to see what the battery life is like? anything to help establish CIQ is a power drain or to explain why its considered a rootkit? Does it allow inbound control of the phone or is it just logging? The term "RootKit" is for something that gives access to the phone so far all we see is logging & report, where's the inbound "access"?

The XDA post says to wipe both caches but your video doesn't. I didn't and everything seems fine (at least I've rebooted and everything seems fine). Think it makes that big of a difference?

@commercialsaremywife Yeah looks like they worked out all the kinks and it runs great love the new theme. Sadly this will likely be the last official release for this phone. Hopefully someone gets honeycomb (and future releases) to work properly on it after sprint stops development.
