Also to michaelstevens... St. George is one of the most highly venerated saints in the Roman & Eastern Catholic church, as well as in the Orthodox church, and is the saint of many countries. He was a great warrior and a good soldier. There are prayers in the service for Jesus and for his mother the Virgin Mary, if you listen close enough.
There's many traditions, like turning the bread and kissing it 3 times to signify the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit.
Just to help clarify some stuff for people, and this may take a few comments.
This is called a Slava (also known as a feast day). It happens once a year to every Serbian Orthodox family, and on different dates. This is St. George which occurs on May 6th. Mine is St. Nick on December 19th.
You can either have many people over and have a larger service either at church or at home, or you can do it like in this video and have a small gathering of close family at the house.
sillylittlewounds wrote me saying I have no right to tell someone what to believe in. I really don't know why they wrote that, but they wrote it 3 times. I don't get it, She comes to mysite to tell me what to do...And I have no idea what the hell she is talking about and I don't think she knows either.... How do you think I filmed this slava if I knew nothing about it...Sounds like SILLYLITTLEWOUNDS has her own wounds that need healing...May Your God be with you Sillylittlewounds...LOVE
Glad to see Father Marko is doing very well in Indiana. He originally served in the Bay Area in California. We were sad that he departed from our area, and wish him well. Seeing this video brings good spirits to our hearts.
It is beautiful and heartfilling to see that Saint George is celebrated throughout the world. In Malta and Gozo Saint George is a very popular Saint too. I was also lucky enough to visit the unforgettable country of Srbija. God bless to all
