a question; I've seen you using the moog prodigy sequenced by the pro one. Is it possible also to have it triggered by the arpeggio of the jupiter 4? (technically I mean)
I don't understand how we have equipment like the analog synthesizer as a tool in music yet we settle on so much shitty digital sounding bullshit. I guess it's cheaper... I hope this style comes back.... I could of sworn I heard a Juno6 the other day in a Lady Gaga song...
I think it really is just down to the fact that digital is more convenient, especially when it comes to home recordings etc. I love the analog sounds though =] It's the same with cameras, film is so much effort but the quality is better, digital is more convenient for editing you can just pop your card in your pc and everything's there. I think analog will never die out though!
Personally I think both analog and digital should be appreciated for their individual sounds. People shouldn't focus so much on making digital synths sound like analog, we should embrace the new spectrum that digital brings to the table.
Any DECENT vintage analog synth in good working order is usually going to cost at least 2-3 times that. For less, you'd have to be pretty lucky to run across a steal. Thrift stores (ones that carry electronics, at least) are sometimes worth checking out as well as some pawn shops that carry a lot of instruments.
you could try to find one that's broken... You can easily fix them if you have knowledge of electronics and know how to read wire diagrams and skematics.
I love your sequenced sound..... I have just ordered a midi-in kit to add to my prodigy and hope it will sound as good as yours. I may post a vid of my instalation..
I need expert advice please! I'm looking for a cheap-ish keyboard (something like the MicroKorg price range) that would give me this kind of fat bass, moog-ish sound... Can anyone suggest anything? Ideally something I could use with Ableton Live, and as a regular keyboard for gigs. Help!
the yamaha mm6 has some analog capability as a keyboard workstation but also has a lot of other good sounds for a bit more than the microkorg...600 bucks new but you can likely find one used for cheaper
Well...a microkorg is a good start and can give you phat basses. Of course the overall sound is different. A moog is a moog. But a "moogish" sounding real analogue synth is the MFB - Synth II. And it's real cheap. Also a used Waldorf - Pulse is a good source for phat sound.
If you're looking for a great synthesizer with the best bang for its buck I highly recommend the microKorg! Your decision should also depend on the type of music you intend on playing.
your not gonna get a moogish sound/all in one keyboard for the price of a microkorg.. a lot of synths try to emulate the moogs fat bass, but nothing comes close. Once you play a Moog, you'll see the difference.. if you want moog sound, you need to buy a moog. And moog's are not all in one keyboards. The Little Phatty does have midi and USB so you could use the keyboard as a controller to play other synths/software synths that have polyphony. Work fine with Ableton. LP all the way.

Alesis Micron is much better in terms of quality construction, so it'll last through gigs. awesome sounds (works with Ion sounds too). get a Micron, you wont regret it. used to have one, and i loved it.
I think that if you want the Moog sound, you cant beat the real thing. . If I was going to spend money on something new and wanted the Moog sound, I would start saving and get a Little Phatty. It might take you some tome to get the funds together, but you will not be happy with the Microkorg. Also, I would second the suggestion of the Waldorf Pulse, but its not from experience that Moog like. The filter and envelopes just to not hold up in comparison, although they are good, just not that moog.
i own a Mogg Mg1. its lovely. just gotta know how to work it. and i use a Microkorg. I can do a lot with then. I also use a Roland x6. That thing isnt as user friendly as u think... anyways. Ur right. U cant find "the" moog sound on any other synth. Moog is unbeatable for what it does.
Don't listen to the Micron suggestions. At least listen to it first. I had it and hated it. Irritating sound. Want a cheap soft synth that sounds quite analog? Try KikAXXE, it's monophonic, eats CPU, only has one oscillator and ADSR, but it sounds great. A tip if you try it: use an EQ to remove 10200Hz (resonance spike).
If you have an audio card compatible with expert sleepers silent way, you can make use of a very basic modular.
How can I tell if my Prodigy has the CV Gate Inputs?? I'm pretty sure I have the later model, my serial number is in the 9,000's. And it was made in America, not imported.
you synthesizer aficianados are quite the eccentreic bunch arent you? jk nothing wrong with it, two awesome entities: synthesizers and eccentric people. :)
I think you're remembering the Concertmate MG-1 that Moog made for Radio Shack, which was more like a Moog Liberation in a Moog Rogue case. I know, I had a Prodigy and later an MG-1...and wish I'd kept the Prodigy.
Lucky bastard... there's a hip-hop department at my school, and one of them just got into analogue (or analogue sounding) synths, and keeps trying to nab my Xiosynth...
I've had 2 SCI Pro-One's. I used to sync it up to a Drumulator. This video reminds me exactly of what it sounded like- Bythe way, there's a Prodigy in my new video...Synthetamine

so how do you get the sequencer apart from the 606 to work, what do i need to do what you are doing here /
does it have the cv/ gate to trigger that will work with the 606

The Prodigy is triggered by my SCI Pro-One arpeggiator and internal sequencer via CV/Gate.
You need the later Prodigy model with CV/Gate Inputs.
