I met Tim about a month before he died at a warehouse party in Atlanta. Strangely enough that was the only Brainiac show I did not catch. Their original guitar player from the early 90's was blond chick.
Brainiac is gone for good but at least Six Finger Satellite are back. These were the only two high profile punk bands of the '90's that used synths.
@DeathMetalDouglas68 Then so you just met Tim/Brainiac prior to their tour w/Beck in Europe - and I remember the infamous 1st Whiskey show (when Michelle was the blond guitar) & where I worked merch and missed seeing/meeting Timothy Leary and Darcy (Smashing P) I do, remember seeing a flash of Darcy b/c she wore all red; dickies, vans, tshirt - all red w/the white blond braided hair. I remember Juan telling that we were invited back to Leary's - why we didn't all go - I dunno. damn.
i remember that tim and i used to wrestle in between classes in high school, i mean like full on tackle each other, books flying and our stuff scattered everywhere in the halls.. i remember his calculus book skidding about 20 feet away..we just thought it was funny to put on the display. hah
all the new *new waver girls thought he looked like Paul Young (every time you go away - 80's sensation)
Wow. Art imitates life. Even though I don't live in the Gem City, Brainiac was well liked and loved in Cincinnati. I used to have the article regarding his passing. To watch this feels like lost innocence. Much love to the friends and family of Tim.
to the rhythm of the sights and sounds shake those cleats and take off your raincoat vincent come on down one shot under and you've blown your cover put your ears and your face on the ground i don't think you can tell me the things that i want you to show me the ??? his big seduction nothing can stop my said come on down 2, 4, 6, 8 tell me who i'm supposed to hate kid with the goosestep tell me its a two-step process
This band was remarkable in a time when a lot of fantastic bands were happening. I got to know them and saw them live probably close to a dozen times over the years. I think they had the ability to have been wildy popular despite being pretty dischordant at times. Oh memories.
He was talking in terms of the style alot of underground bands coming out now who try to emulate alt bands from the 80s. I dont think he meant he believes they did what TMV does today better
i just dusted off the old Brainiac LPs and looked this up. i wore out the VHS tape i had this recorded on when i was in junior high...damn, i miss these guys so much. i saw them in bowling green, ohio when i was like 15 or 16.
Wow! I had no idea that Brainiac had a vid-yo! I miss these guys so very much. Great live act, brilliant records. Inspired legions of fanatic followers back in the day. Thanks for posting this!
Finally, I've been waiting for someone to post this on YouTube. Amazing video from an amazing band whose career was tragically cut short. One of their best.
Holy crap!!! Someone remembers this video besides me? When this song came out it was unlike anything else be played at the time. It's still fresh even today.
RIP TIM
