"Just after Obama became presedent, Farmington screamed and vomited in horror when the 9 Mile Road Bridge collpased. It was so deadly, that the whole town started a memorial for all who died on that day. It was a very horrible day that we all with never forget." (from A Story of A Freindly Michigan Town, released September 7, 2010)
LOL, yeah, it was weird. The funny thing was is that I didn't know I had caught the lady collapsing on video until after I went home and watched the video.
I had noticed she collapsed and I stopped recording so I could run over to some paramedics that were in an ambulance on 9 Mile east of where I was recording the video.
All those crazy people that just have to be near dangerous fumes... Of course I was one of them! I did leave right after that!
@MaschAvenue, Yeah, the steek girders were becoming plastic like, they were melting, & they twisted due to their own weight & the weight of the roadway & the bridge collapsed. Adding to the heat was the burning asphalt pavement of the freeway.
Actually the collapse of the structure was caused by a failure of the metal structure that sits on top of the pilings. Although the fire may not have been hot enough to melt the steel, it was hot enough to weaken it; the same issue in the September 11th fires caused by the terrorists. The steel in its weakened state no longer could support the weight of the structure above it and it failed.
I am so glad you used this as a mataphor for the 9/11 attacks at the World Trade Centers. Too many think its an inside job. The steel can break way and collapse. And if that happens the weight it carries will go down.
To the person that said we had storms, we didn't, I live 4 miles from where it happened, and there was no sign of rain or storms all day. Paper says it was an Indian driver who just got his license and somehow lost control of his car and went all the way from one side of the road to the other and just coincidentally smashing into the truck.
I just heard on the radio that it was an Iranian Student Newbie driver and he admitted that he didn't cause the accident, even though he was doing 70 around the bend. He then later said "no comment" and I already talked to the Police. (I am trying to get this video to load, but it keeps having trouble so I can't see it).
What do you mean "inside joke" and "what really goes on there"? No one I know in the city thinks of it as "Hazeltucky". It's Hazel PARK. Named for the numerous Hazelnut bushes that used to grow there. How do I know? because I'm EDUCATED- just like most of the good, hard working people here. If that is an inside joke, it isn't funny.
hey dont get mad at me i didnt give it the nickname i didnt even know ppl called it that until i went to Hazel Park High School and heard the reference
you know i lived at that town when it happed i was drawing an yugioh picture at my room then i herad this ka boom & i trun to on the news what was happeding & i saw the accident man i was scared .. i was worred about my gradma she live near what when it happen
ok so whoever hit the truck.. how the fuck do you lose control of your car on one of the nicest days of summer? i know shit happens but damn. it makes me mad because the news just says "the driver of the car MAY have possibly lost control of his vehicle"... ya think?? I actually work at a gas station and the driver delivers our gas, hes a really cool guy. in fact, he was on its way to our store when it happened because we almost ran out of gas that day. thank god no one got hurt. they were lucky
There were isolated thunderstorms that day. We got hit by one in that area about 45 minutes before the crash. There's a chance that the rain caused conditions to be not as safe. Or it could flat out be driver error \ not paying attention too!
I dropped the shot because I had seen an ambulance behind me on 9 Mile. I ran over there to try to find it and a paramedic to help the woman. I also would have felt kind of weird going in for a close up on someone during a medical emergency.
there was an accident today in hamtramck this old lady that was speeding and hit this man while he was paintting his house and he got hit his bones were sticking out my aunt help him and other people until police came!!!
Am I correct in assuming that I-75 is closed indefinitely? Good vid. Another guy got a quick vid with his cell when the fire was huge. check it out. only 30 seconds but pretty cool vid too. have they even fixed I75 over by Mexican town yet? Last I knew they still had the right two lanes closed. that was over a year ago tha tanker exploded
Yes. I-75 is closed with no ETA currently. Rob Morosi of MDOT speculated on WJBK that the remaining half of the bridge is probably damaged beyond repair and will need to be demoed. Morosi also said that the pavement would need to be inspected and if needed the freeway will be rebuilt.
I can't believe people actually went to see this instead of staying indoors. You could see from the orange in the smoke it was chemical burning. Granted in this case it wasn't bad, but there are far worse things than gas they are permitted to haul (say pesticides) that would've killed a lot of curious bystanders. I just can't believe people sometimes.
The smoke at the scene was actually rising very high. But the fire did start to flare up shortly after the video at which time I took your advice and got the heck out of there! The smoke and smell was actually more of an issue 2.5 miles away in Warren where I live. I was told by a friend in St. Claire Shores that they could see and smell it all the way there.
Wow i was talking to a friend on steam and he started saying a tanker truck just exploded somewhere in Michigan where he lives and a few hours later i see it online :D
The driver of the tanker is actually in the hospital, but the police aren't releasing his condition... I heard if on WWJ 950 a little over an hour ago.
Biggiesmallscjj, thanks for the update. I'm glad to hear she was OK. My apologies to the folks about the language, the guy behind me reacted to seeing the woman passing out and he let a swear out.
As of the latest updates, they haven't yet found the driver of the tanker truck and the heat is still too intense for them to get in there and see how many vehicles might have actually been involved.
The heli was not as close as you think. It was never in any danger.

I hate to say this about Michigan drivers but they can't drive and this is what happens. They all need to be going back to driver Ed.

The twin towers had bombs in them. Someone blew that shit up, the planes alone didn't make four structures crash to the ground.
