  • @picmario - I agree. The Pharmaceutical Industries have done some good, but their questionable history overshadows their positive deeds.

  • In my opinion and listening to other people who are patients of the Los Angeles County of Department of Mental Health, LACDMH. This public organization gives medicine instead of seeking therapies with minimal medication. They are metaphorically drug pushers. I suggest following organizations like the The Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) is a nonprofit mental health watchdog, responsible for helping to enact more than 150 laws protecting individuals from abusive or coercive practices.

  • Please type in Ban Paxil using google search engine and sign the petition if you believe that Paxil is a bad drug

  • I started on Wellbutrin, next to Celexa, then it was Effexor, Then from there is was Cymbalta. When I first started on anti-depressants they felt like just what I needed. I felt good, I laughed a lot, I always was in a positive optimistic mood. Believe it or not it all started with just one pill Wellbutrin which was administered just after my coming clean off of street drugs and alcohol addiction. Currently I am on: hydroxiyzine, trazodone, clontidine, and Cymbalta. I feel like killing myself. ☹

  • I never had any problems when I was out of it for 2 weeks.I think sum people just want money.I call it how I see it! It's like people suing bc of hot coffee getting on them.I hate people that want free shit.

  • I told my member of parliament that $10billion to set up rehabilitaion facilities $48million is a joke. Since then my Aunt Marion, my sister Debbie an ex co worker John Doran all whom had the same toxic reaction I did are dead. Malignant neoplams brain, dementia, hypothyroidism, syncope is what I live with.

Severe tension head aches mean paxil is toxic Why do colonial government cover it up using doctors who have been passing it out to kids? St. Mike doctors said it was like a vitamin pill!

  • I have been taking Paxil for over a year now. Yes, I do have short term memory loss, but I couldn't imagine life without it. My life is actually better because of Paxil.

  • I started taking Paxil when I was 18. The first year was ok, and then came the shocks, followed by short term memory loss. After a year I had no energy. I was completely drained and living my life in a daze. I had a hard time completing sentences, always at a loss for words, and constantly crying to no reason.

I wasted 6 years of my life on Paxil. I'm now 25, and have to take Adderall for concentration. The short-term memory loss from Paxil seems to be permanent.

  • For me the first few months were ok. I was numb but I wanted to be numb, I started taking paxil after someone I cared about died. I didn't have a chemical imbalance, but I was depressed for situational reasons.

The first few months were ok, and then I couldn't rest. I would sleep but I would get no rest. I was often with no energy and in a daze just like you, I had a harder time grasping things just like you. Then I started having nightmares, it was like being in hell.

  • When I say nightmares it isn't strong enough. Everyone has nightmares sometimes, but I would have vivid lucid horrific nightmares every night and I would remember them and experience them as if they were real. Sleep was torture, and being awake was painful, all I could think about was how I had lost everything, how I wanted to die. I actually tried to kill myself in the bathtub, I have myself a good shock but it didn't work like in the movies.

I've been off paxil for a year now

  • Your story sounds very much like mine, but the worst part for me were the nightmares.

  • Yeah its all fucking bullshit, gang of speculators. Im on Paxil 4 months (20mg) i had awful depression and panic attacks now its OK Im gonna take for next 2 months than star to reduce and off (Im 25)

  • You have no idea what you are talking about. People react differently to medications. How dare you call these people a gang of speculators.

  • i been on Paxil for 10 years and no apathy, and i care about everything. Before i was on prozac and i did feel apathy, and had bad panic attacks, and bad depression. Now 0 panic attacks 0 depression and 0apathy.

  • Thats great for you. I'm not sure what the percentages of incidents where, but even 1 out of 10,00 suicides is enough to warrant action.

  • U need to understand that is not because of drugs people commits suicide. People with depression take antidepresants and its depression taht killing them - Drug doesn work

  • @renegatt not true hun! I overdosed myself back in '97 bc of Zoloft.I wouldn't have done that if I wasn't on that shit!

  • paxil saved my life.Plus helped my depression and panic attacks.I will be on this drug forever.I never want to with draw from them ever. knowing i have panic attacks and depression again.

  • You say that now, just wait till the apathy kicks in and you stop caring about everything.

I was taking Paxil for the same reason, and it nearly ruined my life. I became reclusive and all the Paxil did was enable that behavior. You'll start to hate it, and by that time you won't be able to get off of it.

  • mateor09 pay attention to what I'm going to advise you right now:Stay away from Paxil as soon as possible and visit another doctor that someone from your real ohnest and friendly doctors has suggested. That's what I did ,Paxil causes you real troubles!Stay away from that shitty stuff ,it makes feel very ill, you feel as long as you are on it!there are other fine medicines and some people willing to like you and be your friend!there is always a way to feel differently.

  • shit?? is this pill really that bad i don't think i really need it but my doctor prescribed it to me and my fucking mom wont let me stop taking it what the fuck should i do??

  • paxil IS evil! listen people!

  • Paxil kills - Paxil is evil - Paxil is the devil - Paxil is Belial in pill form - Paxil is made from dead baby's innards - Paxil will cause your peen to fall off...the planes that flew into the twin towers were filled with Paxil...Osama Bin Laden takes Paxil...Paxil was really created by aliens and have tiny transistors that take root once they enter the brain...I'm surprised there's any room left in cyberspace so many people bitch about Paxil - it works for some, some no.

  • paxil is an evil drug

    it has ruined my life

  • It's now a year later? I asume its too late to file a claim.

  • paxil is the most potent form of ssris....stronger than prozac.prozac and paxil were basicly the first ssris

  • Taking Paxil is addictive for me. I feel electric brain shocks when I am off of it for a couple of days. It's annoying and scary. I don't know if I will ever get off of it. I really hope I do.

  • I had those "shocks" too. Worst thing ever. The best way to stop is tapering down. Like start taking half a dose, then next month (or when you feel comfortable) take it every other day, then every third day and so on. It took like 8 months but I got off of it.

  • I'm on paxil and want to get off of it. It makes me feel depressed and confused. I took it because I thought I was depressed. Now I know what real depression is like. What should I do? need some help!

  • this is retarded. Paxil saved my life. Yeah it has side effects. No shit every drug does. Even coffee, aspirin, and nasal decongestint. I have experienced the weird jittery feelings inside my head, the inability to talk, and the headaches from not taking paxil but i have also experienced the severe depression and self destructive behavior before hand.

  • You went through those withdrawals and are still saying good things about Paxil? I don't believe you at all. There are other SSRI drugs that will help you the same without the withdrawals. And kudos to those who joined this lawsuit - I got a little bit back, myself.

  • no ssri will help me like paxil. Prozak and ridiline? Please...I have an anxiety disorder and depression, i'm not a looney. I've felt the withdrawls. They feel like little shocks in your brain. When I was camping i forgot my dosage and felt it for a week. It's very stimulating actually. It feels good to me.

  • It will stop working. It will be worse than anything you've dealt with. Nothing will stop it. Just be prepared. You haven't dealt with depression or self-destruction until you've dealt with cold-turkey paxil withdrawal. I just pray you find something else that may help. God bless.

  • i'm sure it will suck. But what in life doesn't suck exactly?

  • All medications will effect people differently and all medications have side effects. I was on Paxil also, but when I seen I was having side effects from the medication I stopped taking it and had my Doctor put me on some thing that worked for me. Some times it takes time to find the right medication to treat your depression. As far as the people under eighteen it is not just the doctors place to check children for side effects, it is also the parents.

  • I tried several different antidepressants over a period of two years to treat Anxiety and major depressive disorder. Nothing screwed me up more than Paxil Cr. Withdrawal lasted for nearly thirteen months with me and, like VikingTOwer experienced, my mental powers and life haven't been the same since. Best of luck to everyone struggling with these medications!

  • I am on Paxil. And it helped me (Bipolar2). I am still on it... and probably will be forever.

    Did everyone magically "heal?"...

since everything I have learned of my condition (and of relatives with the same genetic condition)- it is

with me the rest of my life.

  • You can't be on it forever. It's only been tested for 18 weeks, and you will reach tolerance (between 3 and 13 years on the drug). Just letting you know, as you need to be ready to switch meds. If you're bipolar, it may be best to try and switch sooner rather than later, as unchecked withdrawal from paxil (aka tolerance) could be disastrous.

I hit tolerance, and it was bad. Plus, you have to wean off it to go on something else - or else you run the risk of fatal seratonin syndrome.

  • I took Paxil for about a year and it basically ruined my life. I was able to get off of it after about 3 months of withdrawl (hell). Life still hasn't returned to normal though.

  • me too, while i was on paxil i even became claustrophibic out of the blue...and when i was driving all the sudden i just just pull up and get out 'cause i was having an anxiety attack it totally changed who i was and friends could tell that. i was scared all the time and i wasn't happy attitude anymore like i used to before taking paxil. When i tried to get off geez! it was horrible withdrawls worst than heroine and cocaine combine man. for real.

  • Thank you for what you've done.

  • this stuff ruins lives and victims are being offered their money back? No thanks.

  • a whopping hundred bucks...how much do the lawyers get?

How much does the special interest group make?

    so many questions...

  • 100 dollars is the amount you can get EVEN WITHOUT HAVING RECEIPTS or other proof that you brought paxil for you child or ward. If you have proof, you can get back EVERY PENNY you spent on paxil for your children or wards. Go to paxilpayback, and make your claim if you are eligible.

  • I think this type of thing is great, because a lot of families don't know they could benefit from the payback, thanks PC!!

  • My friends and colleagues at Public Citizen produced this video, and I think it is absolutely fantastic! I am telling all my friends about it, and I hope that people will claim the money that is rightfully theirs.

  • I wouldn't wish Panic attacks on my worst enemy. I was on Paxil for two years and it basically saved my life, or at least made it worth living. I'm over 18 but if I was entitled to any of the money I would collect it and gladly return it to Glaxo along with a thank you note. -- A future torts attorney

  • Thanks for your work to protect our kids.

  • Question for PublicCitizenInc: What is th refund process like. Is there a chance that the $100 refund can be abused with no documentation? Or is this likely to be something that will be heavily checked by Paxil's parent company?

  • Fraud and abuse is always a possibility, but we expect that claimants will be honest. It is of course Public Citizen's position that only eligible class members should make claims and should do so only for amounts to which they are entitled. We do not know whether the drug maker or some other entity will be conducting audits of the claims process.

  • 48 million dollars?! FINALLY the drug companies are being held accountable. Nice work.

  • Thanks! The attorneys on the case worked for a long time to improve the settlement. Please tell people you know about it, because the money will only get distributed to the consumers if they know to ask for it.

  • shame on Big Pharma! kids with problems don't need to be guinea pigs for a giant corp so it can make another ton of money.

  • How outrageous that the company could get away with this. They have no problem selling the drugs, and now they want to keep money that rightfully belongs to consumers.

  • Thanks for your comment. Make a claim and take some money out of that pot! paxilpayback dot org
