I'm all for responsible, law abiding citizens possessing reasonable weapons for protection or sport but carrying an AR-15 in public just because you can? What purpose does that serve? Was he looking to start a street battle with the Secret Service?
The only effect it will have is underscoring how crazy gun nuts can be.
The Secret Service has every right to protect the President, and if they think one of these people who have lived clean enough lives to qualify for a carry permit actually poses a threat to the most well-guarded President in American history, I'm fairly certain they'd have the wide, sweeping power to disarm him or her.
Fact is, as annoying as gun nuts can be, legal gun owners commit violent crimes at extremely low rates when compared to the rest of the population, and the SS knows this.

it would be disorderly conduct. just as if you yelled sugar bear. let me walk you through a scenario. you are at the movies and someone yells fire. will you immediately jump to your feet and run like hell? or will your check to see if the threat is credible? the fire argument is flawed because of this key point, people don't just act if they hear someone yelling. in any case you will be pissed if it is real or fake, and you would want to be compensated for the disruption by the owner.

Joe Klein is saying that there *should* be some exceptional situations where it is banned, even though the Second Amendment would seem to allow it. Cops and secret service agents are given background checks, psychological tests, rigorous training. They are at the very least relatively qualified and know what they're doing. They have responsibility.
I'm not telling people to shut up or not carry guns, but there is a time and place and this isn't it. Town hall meetings aren't for shouting out your opponents and they're not for brandishing weapons. You have the right to do either, but it's brutish and pathetic.

People bringing assault weapons to ANY public gathering, ever mind one where POTUS across the street, do more harm then good to their cause. I'm all for responsible, law abiding citizens possessing reasonable weapons for protection or sport but carrying an AR-15 in public just because you can? What purpose does that serve? Was he looking to start a street battle with the Secret Service?

The Secret Service has every right to protect the President, and if they think one of these people who have lived clean enough lives to qualify for a carry permit actually poses a threat to the most well-guarded President in American history, I'm fairly certain they'd have the wide, sweeping power to disarm him or her.
Fact is, as annoying as gun nuts can be, legal gun owners commit violent crimes at extremely low rates when compared to the rest of the population, and the SS knows this.
