  • who's that girl?

  • have always loved annie lennox since who's that girl. when she sings of the deeper meaning, i love her even more.

  • y esos gitanos ???? hehehe

  • Still listening this song. I am obsessed with this song. I love it!

  • this sucks. gregorian chants are a lot better...

  • Christmas is over but I'm still listening to this song. Her voice is amazing!

  • God DAMN - that VOICE!!!

  • I LOVE the style of video they chose for this. It's mesmerising.

  • Powerful!

  • God Rest Ye, Merry Hippoooooooogrifs !

  • I'd love to do that - parade through the forest and sing my heart out! xxx

  • i love this rasta fari

  • Praise Jesus!!

  • wow!!

  • Any Norwegians here that connect this song to "Nissene på låven" and "Nissene over skog og hei"?

  • some people just don't understand the art of music!:(

  • I see this video more like they spoke to an angel of the lord and are passing along the true transmission of the word of God in Christian teachings to those at a pagan festival, sort of bringing them the true word of God to the uninitiated. I think it culminates in the end of the video by the child picking up the golden apple as if he had found a great treasure and looking into it deeply for truth.

  • i love the dj alex s dubstep version

  • Great playlist, I enjoyed it a lot!

  • I find this song a tad bit creepy :D It's over 500 years old, btw :)

  • seen this on MTV by chance this year WOW!!!! it blew me away got loads ppl to listen to it i know this sounds corney or weired but i made my son-in-law listen to it and it melted his Hard Heart, and he transformed over night playing this all night and day,he was full of the love of Christ..Thank you Annie, always thought you were the best Artist ever God Bless

  • @333emmjay It blew me away too ;but for different reasons .To see many Pagan ideas rippling through a ''Christmas'' song, was very inspiring .I see it as a blend of the old with the new ,Is it a reminder of whom we once were ? .I feel as Christians adopting so many Pagan ideas and symbols , it only fair to include them in a Christmas song .I feel the strength of Paganism in this video , some may find it scary , but I see Strength.

  • Interesting Video--Annie is still amazing.

JESUS is what Christmas should be ALL About.

We are all sinners in need of a Savior--thank You, thank You, JESUS.

  • @cb4ujudge Why are we all sinners? If you don't mind my asking. And is there any solid proof that Jesus was the son of God? Around that time there were many Jesus'. I think he may have been an advanced healer or something.

  • @RennaLyra31 The belief as I understand it is that the first sin, Adam and eve eating from the forbidden tree is a a sin on all humans. The thing is, Jesus' death on the cross supposedly absolved us of that. Which is why people say he died for our sins. As for the rest of your points, it is historically contextual, but I have seen a historian explain that there was indeed a Jesus Christ and he explained why. It involved the letters.

  • @rpascuttini If it was Adam and Eve who comitted the sins then why are all humans in sin when they did nothing wrong? If our crime is being human then we can't do much about it can we? I think there may have been a Jesus Christ but i think he was some kind of advanced mage or healer.

  • @RennaLyra31 .My thoughts also ;I think Jesus was a faith healer /Shaman .It is something we all have the ability to use .His ''Halo '' ; is his aura .

  • @cb4ujudge .I think Christmas should be about what ever you wish it to be about .Whether it is about religion , or a time to chill , or a time to put aside to visit loved ones ..Or all three rolled into one .

  • @monkeyboymacc .Everyone take note , Monkey boy knows his stuff .I wish some folk would open their eyes .

  • @Aithne90 Nope ,Angels ,or guardian angels appear in Pagan life too .

  • @bupeking2000 Frankly , I do not believe in the devil .You are being controlled by fear unfortunatley .

  • @beautifulmiasma Jesus most definetley existed , but he was a shaman/faith healer .

  • @TomasFearon Its your Pagan roots awakening :)

  • @AR75308 Jesus was very real , but a Shaman I believe ..

  • @ladyoFleisure04 .Most definetley no mistake in what you have said ..

  • @Go2theant .Can someone tell me why Christmas celebrations have a strong Pagan theme then ?? .If it was SO bad , why decorate a tree , why use Mistitoe and Holly .Why put a log on your table ? .Why dress up as St Nic ?.I liken it to stealing someones business and calling the business by a different name .

  • @supersilverdancer No its not stealing. What no one has pointed out here is that cultures change, adjust and adopt. In some cases christianity was maintained with the beliefs of the area. Culture is something that is greatly imbedded in what we do. Over times the ideas conflate or mix or seperate. Stealing would mean an intentional taking of some cultural aspect, which makes no sense.

  • @supersilverdancer Our cultural beliefs constantly. If you don't believe me, look at texts from then 1600's. Think about how catholic church mass was originally in latin and now english. Think of the problems that causes in interpretation and how people will respond to it. Look at how music has changed in the past 20 years. Take a quick look at wikipedia and look up Christmas.

  • @rpascuttini .Indeed they do ,as they are at the moment.

  • @supersilverdancer I'm confused, are you saying that this video demonstrates people are stealing pagan ideas and applying it to Christmas?

  • @rpascuttini .Sorry for the confusion .No that is not what I am saying ,I was referring to history in general .As for the video , Paganism has its place in the history of Christianity , ( that place is not a small corner of a room ) I feel that is why there is a strong Pagan feel in the video .

  • @rpascuttini I believe you ! lol .Lets say Pagan ideas were ''Borrowed '' then, and not stoling .I just do not know if it was so clear cut as that .I fully accept that cultures change , adjust and adopt , but there seems to be something else to it .A human motive of some sort ??There is no disputing that Paganism is returning , and it is good to see it depicted in the video .Not as returning , but as the old Spiritual reliqion .that once was the belief of our land .

  • @PheonixRising2988 .I think it was a little like that too ,but Paganesm is still very much alive now

  • @flashymacdonald Erm , I dont think so !

  • @RealJerseyShore928 .Oestara was originally the festival of the Goddess Eostre, whose name comes from Astarte, a Cannanite goddess. (The Christian holiday of Easter also gets its name from her.) At Oestara we see symbols of new life everywhere - eggs, rabbits, flowers, new lovers holding hands, and other things. It is the time to celebrate the joys of first love, of life, and of sexuality.

  • I stand by my comment ...so very beautiful

  • Blasphemy, using modulation to sing is terrible thing to do.

  • I just LOVE this video ,The Pagan theme is just beautiful ...well ;it has to be ..because to be a Pagan is beautiful.

  • @supersilverdancer Do you know anything about paganism in history? Lol Yeah Human child sacrifice is totally beautiful lol

  • The spirit of Allfather Yule is with Annie!

  • I always pictured if this song had a video it would have the feel of late 19th century carnies; I LOVE IT! :) this is what ive always pictured in my head!

  • Just enjoy the video people. Don't make it a rally or a dissertation. Merry Christmas!

  • Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas, Annie!

  • MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Thank God for giving us the 1st gift of Christmas, that is, JESUS.

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life."--John 3:16

  • Merry Christmas Ya'all :)

  • Wonderful!!!! May the spirit of Yule bless her!!!

  • Great interpretation of the song. Vivat Annie Lennox!

    Merry Christmas to all :)

  • It's really annoying to be innundated with make-up ads at the beggining of this... It's such a good rendition by Annie Lennox, of this timless Christmas tune,!

  • Has Annie Lennox commented on her motivations concerning her visuals accompanying this song on this video ?This is an amazing version sonically . It would be extremely disappointing if the accompanying film was intended to mock the birth of our saviour The Lord Jesus Christ .I myself am not convinced that it is mocking but it seems to have stirred lots of controversy !

  • Merry Wicker Man Christmas

  • Personally, I don't see it as a way to mock Christian beliefs, but it is a perfect portrayal of how the Christian and Pagan celebrations came together to create our modern-day Christmas celebrations. Well done.

  • @filmbash well put~hatin's bad

  • I love how Annie is mocking Christmas and using a Pagan themed song. Hat off to you Annie, well done :D

  • @BlackTongueLoki Wait...what makes you think she is mocking it?

  • @rpascuttini You're obviously not very observant. There are many times in the vid that she appears to be mocking it; which is a good thing

  • @BlackTongueLoki I am very observant. You clearly do not realize that an alternate or possible conflation of cultural interpretation is NOT mocking. Nor did you answer my question. Lets get one thing straight here. Style and over dramatization does not neccesarily mean mocking. YOU interpret some aspects of this as mocking. I see the same images and do not. I further state you have no proof of it. So again I ask, and please answer specifically, how is it mocking?

  • @rpascuttini Wo, ok. Yes I interpret some of this as mocking Christianity. Ahem, the meaning of word 'mocking' - To attack or treat with ridicule. To ridicule by mimicry of action or speech. It's her little facial jesture and composure that refer to not taking the event seriously; to make fun of, therefore, to treat with ridicule! I merely commented on this video with my approval of it. Since it's a stolen Pagan tradition by Christians, this works well along with the music

  • @BlackTongueLoki There is nothing mockig about this. OED-1tease or laugh at in a scornful or contemptuous manner. I excluded the 2nd def of Mock as it does not apply to this situation. I've also looked at interviews given by Annie Lennox in regards to her Christmas CD. There is no indication of mocking. The facial expressions might be exaggerated, as should be for the type of character she is portraying, but so is her march and dance.

  • @BlackTongueLoki Where in the world do you get that? I see no 'mockery' done...

    I think this is great.

  • @51362879 I also think this is great, read my replay to rpascuttini as you will see what I am talking about.

  • This would have scared the living sh*t out of me had I watched it as a kid. It's one of those things that would have haunted me until I watched it again later-on in adulthood; but even now it's creepy. And Annie also looks a very creepy type to me.

Having said all that, it's very interesting to watch and gets under your skin, even if I'm not sure why it does.

  • @sigmaman93 This video reminds me so much of Loreena McKennit's "Mummer's Dance" video from some years ago. I almost wonder if Annie Lennox has seen McKennitt's video and is paying homage to it.Check it out if you can and see the similarities.

  • @OhSusannah63 - I was unaware of the video you mentioned and indeed the singer, but having checked it out I totally agree it could have inspired Annie's video. The same Pagan dance through the streets and the same sepia tint. Not as sinister as Annie's video though.

Whereas Annie's video reminded you of Loreena's video; Loreena herself reminds me of a younger Helen Mirren.

    Merry Christmas to you.

  • love the eary music

  • Jesus was probably pretty dark.

    Like.

    Donald glover.

  • Without a doubt, Annie's best song ever! The "christians" who object are the same ones who believe Halloween equals satanic worship instead of a hoiday where children dress up and gather candy. I am a devout Christian, and this song is beautifully perfect. No pagan beliefs, just music celebrating the birth of our LORD JESUS THE CHRIST.

  • Annie Lennox-still one of the best female vocalists in rock. I really love this vid. Very pagan.

  • I want to live in this video :)

  • look up Tim Minchin's song "good book" preferably the live version

    such a good song :D

  • Thank god for Annie Lennox and Kate Bush to save us from hideous commercialism of Justin Beiber or the cloying schmaltz of Michael Buble.

  • @downhill34 Congratulations. You are the first person I've ever seen compare Justin Bieber with Michael Buble.

  • @downhill34 I agree with you about Justin Beiber but Michael Buble is better than Annie Lennox and Kate Bush though. Annie Lennox murdered this song.

  • Can every one just stop fighting and listen to the damn song!

  • @rockchickproductions I wouldnt say anyone is fighting per se just getting into worthwhile conversations and would that not be the whole goal of a song to bring people to a level of deep philosophical thinking and feeling safe to freely express it on this page without a chance of mocking or ridicule

  • Listening to it with my large headphones on really does give me goosebumps!!!!

  • The drummer in that video reminds me of johnny depp

  • This video is so bad ass!!!

  • so much better than the original... annie is amazing

  • I know this song wasn't made to provoke religious arguements but I think humankind have scared themselves into relegion. What are our sins when God (supposedly) created us himself? Why are we begging forgiveness when he created us that way?

ps Annie is a wonderful singer! Merry Yule everyone!

  • @RennaLyra31 Most religions teach that God (however defined) is perfect, but that we are not, because we have somehow become separated from the perfection that is God. Religion CAN be used to promote "fear", (anything can) but it's mainly about hope, reunion with Divinity, and peace with each other. If we are "as God made us", then would you say that God intended us to kill, steal, and hurt each other? "Forgiveness" precedes change and improvement. It's a struggle, but a good one.

  • @lichtbroeder I see your point. I think fear promotes religion because there isn't a way to be 100% sure of everything and it provides a sense of security and other things. I suppose if God wanted us perfect then he would have "fixed" us and made us the way he wanted. He may have intended us to kill and steal from each other. Then there is the arguement of free will, but if humans have free will then why do Christians beg forgiveness for things that they mostly haven't had anything to do with.

  • This Rocks! Christ Is Born!

  • Great Video. Annie is the best. This kind of video makes you remember what Christmas is all about.

  • Isnt most of christmas based on pagan religions anyway ? Well apart from the jesus part obviously. But in europe there's always been a festival in winter so im assuming we kept most of that because its what we were used to and didnt want to leave it behind or since christianity was a new religion they mashed it together with existing practices to make it an easier transition.

  • @TheDom845 This is a good theory i thought of this myself for awhile but in my research i found that the development of Christianity does not stem from paganism really. It stems from Judaism which developed as a counter movement to the pagan religions of Sumeria. So Christianity at its root is not a mashing of pagan religions in fact most of the bible is simply a telling of the ineptitude of the pagan Gods.

  • @TheDom845 Oh after rereading my comment and your comment I think i mistakenly read christmas as christianity lol sorry for that and now that I see it clearer I would agree that it was just tradition prior to christianity and when christianity came into being they justified the celebration with jesus's birth

  • A wonderful darker version of a dark Christmas song.

  • this is just amazing! so unique and fantastic well done!!!

  • such an imtimidating video :o but love it :')

  • Comment removed

  • feelin this annie...!!!!

  • this is really trippy

  • A wonderful recording, and a really remarkable video. It's interesting that it has sparked a religious argument in the comments here. She is dressed like one of the Magi, her musicans are like mummers - and there is that Christmas card scene with the stars, but then they encounter a horned god effigy instead of a Christ child. But wasn't it always a little strange that the Magi used astrology? They were pagans in search of an avatar, yet Christians don't object to their story.

  • also i will say that i respect religous people, but hyms are so droll and painfully morbid, if god is real, then i think he would enjoy this alot more than group droning

  • Annie Lennox has a real talent, i care not that it is religous, i don't believe in god as i am a logical thinker, but it kinda remininds me of Jethro Tull.

  • @L33Ennis In the liner notes for this CD (A Christmas Cornucopia) Annie Lennox makes it clear that she has no particular religious affiliation, but respects messages of peace and love that are found in most faiths. (Some of the greatest logical thinkers in history by the way have believed in God, or do believe in God, so logic isn't a non-religious or non-spiritual quality.)

  • @L33Ennis

implying logical thinking excludes a belief in god, dur hurr

  • @chaosbringer127 I couldn't disagree with you any more. Logic has been used countless times to support or worship the existence of God via ontological, cosmological, and the development of ethics arguments. I feel that it is a common misconception the logic and God don't coincide. I feel it would take tremendous hubris to say that human reasoning and intellect leaves no room for God. It takes tremendous human processing to even think about the complexities of the basics of Christianity.

  • @WaffleFlamingo or any faith or belief system actually.

reason and spirit go hand and hand :look up living/conscious universe theory...

  • @willowendirr I am unfamiliar with this theory and I haven't been able to find really good resources on it without people just saying this is a proof for God I'm assuming it has to do with universal expansion but that could be due to entropy in the universe, but my question with it a characteristic of living organisms is the ability to decrease entropy but it would appear that the universe doesn't have that ability....but then again i don't really know what this theory it trying to suggest

  • @WaffleFlamingo i can ask for a specific article from my FIL who studies these things.... the general gist is that the only way a thing such as chaos theory or protons or the like could possibly work with such smooth gearing would require a consciousness controlling them. the theory is that it is not a god per Se, but the actual universe itself that is aware and interacts with all things. i just find it facinating. have a good retuning of the light festivities!

  • @willowendirr Why thank you sir for the light reading you have suggested me lol I would gladly like to read the article but if you are unable to acquest the article that is fine and to you to I wish a happy holiday

  • I cannot stop listening to this!

  • Just enjoying the song and avoiding the comment/argument junkies.

  • really trippy.. i enjoyed it!

  • several pagan things portrayed in this video

  • it was last year when this was released as you all know - what a great version of this great carol. She has a vivid imagination (annie lennox) and the video is well put together, I think it is genius I keep playing it again and again!!

  • totally loving this she is awesome

  • Just enjoy that astounding voice and don't ruin it with religious arguments.

  • Goddess.

  • As a Christian, I approve of this version of this classic carol! :D

  • Oh save us from self-righteous and ignorant x-ians. As has already been said numerous times, crack a book (that's not the Bible) and bone up on your history. Christianity is replete with appropriated pagan elements. And really? A war on Christianity that will end in absolute decadence. Atheists aren't amoral, dear. We just don't need a God or the threat of Hell to act as a moral compass. We have a little thing called reason.

  • LOVE the drumbeating - the rhythm - fantastic take on the old song! Love it to bits; Good woman you, Annie!!!

  • Great voice, great video :)

  • Fantastic. This is a wonderful version of a classic carol, and the video is astounding. Go Annie.

Oh, and I'm a devout atheist. Just to keep the conversation flowing.

  • This. gives. me. shivers. every. time. O.o

  • This has to be a new classic version to be played every year. A work of genius. Annie you Rock! :)

  • I think I just got saved! love this:D

  • very interesting take on an old carol!

  • @MarkB1812 And Merry Christmas to you Scrooge!!!!

  • @MarkB1812 Ever heard of how religion is like a penis? It's ok to have one and it's ok to be proud of it but don't whip it out in public.

  • @123ollyb everyone knows how to copy and paste my friend... you are not proving anything

  • @Pringles352 Well, I think the general principle is there. And I never claimed that no one knew how to copy and paste - I'm merely annoyed when people are all "in your face" about their religion. Evangelists annoy me.

  • @MarkB1812 Too bad Christmas was started having nothing to with Jesus... Corrupt catholic church.

  • why are people getting so wound up about a beautiful version of an old carol? For those who are please answer me this question. As so called christians, why do you decorate a tree at christmas? Now I'll tell you. Because it was once a pagan ritual to celebrate the winter solstice as the days again began to lengthen and they saw it as the beginning of new life. Now, how many christians out there are gonna tear down their tree as a pagan symbol? I bet not one. Hypocrites the lot of you.

  • @rebelyell18601865

Along with Yuletide, Holy and Mistletoe all Pagan.

  • @rebelyell18601865

I grew up knowing full well that Christmas was a pagan holiday and I'm Catholic. Does that make me a hypocrite for openly embracing the roots of one of my fave hoildays?

  • @rebelyell18601865 And thank you kind person for discriminating ALL of us in stead of just the ones that post un nice things.

  • @rebelyell18601865 Actually, me and my family put up a cross in place of a Christmas tree. My parents used to do Christmas trees, but after a few years became friends with some Kenyans, and the told them how in their country there were pagans that would decorate pine trees then literally bow down and worship them. Shocked, my parents replaced our tree with a cross. It's silly to judge all Christians by saying most of us do something that we were raised loving. We just forgot the meaning.

  • @KatelynIsilhin so you use the symbol of the DEATH of Christ [on the cross] as a celebration of His birth?? Macabre

  • Comment removed

  • @rebelyell18601865 Intriguing that you see hypocrisy in Christians; i would postulate that Christians admittedly are hypocritical. They say stop sinning but then say they themselves are sinners. Just because they are hypocrites does not reflect upon the truth of their message. If a meth addict said don't do meth it will ruin your life just because he is an addict doesn't make his statement wrong. But thanks for sharing your concern may it aid the spiritual walk for all of God's children

  • @rebelyell18601865 Why single out Christians? There are people of all kinds who celebrate Christmas, oddly enough.

  • @rebelyell18601865 why should a Christmas tree being borrowed bother anyone so what ? There is not only one pagan religion, There are dozens of them and they borrowed all sorts of things between them. Would you call them fake? If not, then why is there outrage if Christianity does the same thing?

  • @rebelyell18601865

Maybe we are, a lot of us. But you are the first...

  • @rebelyell18601865

christians already know about the origin of christmas. We don't Celebrate halloween because it's a demonic pegan holiday of which satan worshippers sacrifice humans and animals on that day.We are very weary about making sure christianity isnt mixed with peaganness. The christmas tree is revered as god's tree cus its an evergreen,we decorate it to celebrate god and jesus christ, but for some reason now it also symbolizes the birth of jesus.no more gottcha questions -thanks!

  • @Conservativesunite11 You're wrong about Halloween. It's actually meant to be the day on which the veil between the human and spirit world is at its weakest, or something along those lines. Pagans aren't satan worshippers. And they used christmas trees long before Christians. It's special because it is evergreen and most of the other trees died in the winter. The celebration of Yule is to celebrate the fact that spring will come again. (People who know more about Paganism than I do, correct me)

  • @RennaLyra31 Actually, you're pretty spot on; thanks!

  • @faerielyght Thank you. I think if Christians are going to comment or insult Pagan beliefs, they should at least do it properly.

  • @RennaLyra31 Or get the information correct ;Boy did the church do a good job. creating ''Fear '' came as 2 nd nature .

  • @RennaLyra31

Interesting that in danish the name for christmas is still jul and all traditions are still eating and drinking, guess a wiking would still fit in

  • @bryde1968 I didn't know that. It's quite cool.

  • No dude Satan worshippers practice human and animal sacrifice on Haloween, thats just a fact.Haloween is a demonic holiday and asu can imagine christians arnt very fond of it.We know pinetrees were used as decorations long before christians started doingit them selves, but its become a whole different thing for a whole different occasion the only thing in comon with christmas with the old pagan celebr. is that a pine was decorated ,christmas is not a pagan holiday,u just want annoy us with ur crap

  • @Conservativesunite11 I hate you...you insult my faith, and you are a shame on anyone who has writing skills. Do your research, the Romans changed their holidays to mach our storyline for the savior in order to convert. Go back to school, learn spelling and grammar, read a book, do your research before you make educated Christians look any worse than you already make the rest of the Christians look
