  • Bravo, Nice Performance! In a case of a DaRuan; Is it possible to drop the lower string to G to have a DADG bass type tuning?

  • 背景是兵马俑有点奇怪,不搭呀

  • The one who doesn't like this is neither deaf or fucking stupid !

  • @Junya11031986 I agree. Neither deaf, nor stupid. It's just someone with different taste in music.

There are even people who don't like gagaku.

  • Seriously.... how could anyone dislike this? music?

  • Get a load of that alternate picking with the pulloffs done with the left hand on open strings. I'm going to use this in my guitar stuff!

Thanks for the beautiful music. She's wonderful!

  • who here would love Lisa Gerrard doing voice on this music, thumbs up!!

  • Very cool. I wonder if it originates from around the border area of Russia and China?

  • It's one of the instruments from the 'Ruan' series. This is the Da Ruan. 'Da' meaning big in mandarin. It plays the role of cello-bass in an orchestra. I especially loved its good resonance and bass.

  • sounds cool- maybe it should have a couture so she doens't have to balance it on her leg. maybe modern ones do.

  • :O its so big!

  • just looks like a banjo on steroids

  • @meowchunkz who knocked up and oud

  • @meowchunkz Looks like things ARE big in China!

  • what is the name of the name of the instument? and the song sounds russian :D

  • its the Mongolian version of a Pipa. And the song is of Mongolian origin, which is why it sounds Russian. The Russians and Mongolians share a lot of culture.

  • @flyurmiata no it isn't. it's the large ruan, a bass instrument. If there was to be any influence, it would be middle eastern/ persian influence. Ruan is even MORE Chinese than the pipa. Plus, the woman at the start said the song was about the journey to the west - where the middle east, and persian nomadic tribes that live in the dessert are.

+, Really Mongolians are nomadic, and share descent with persians millenia ago, so no, they don't share a lot of culture with Russia, maybe racial mixing

  • @Pirate74d mongol shit

  • CHINESE CHINESE

  • It's a Ruan (pronounced roo-an, with a short roo). They come in three sizes, S, M and L; this is an L.

  • Ruan 阮 should not be pronounced as roo-an. It should be pronounced according to Mandarin pinyin rules.

  • That's absolutely true for people who wish to speak Putonghua with accurate pronunciation. I intended "roo-an' as a guide for foreigners whose onlt wish is to get somewhere in the same ball-park as a Beijinger.

May I ask whether you're the PC Lai who plays guqin and used to be in touch with Julian Joseph?

  • This guitarist is amazing! I would bet that any instrument she plays will sound fabulous...I would also like to know what this instrument is called and where it comes from, it sounds incredible, in the right hands.

  • This Chinese instrument sounds like, look like and play like the Western guitar. I guess this one is a Large size ruan, so Google the word 大阮 should get you more info.

  • what is the name of this amazing instrument?
