It will be a lot harder to make a choice for yourself later on in life, because you have been brainwashed your entire childhood. At that point it's not just a point of switching or losing faith, but realizing the things you have been thought to believe as being right have been lies.
You can see plenty of examples of this, not just in religion, this is the case with children being brought up with ridiculous belief systems of their parents. See louis theroux on nazis and most hated family.
the muslim young girl, who went to a non faith school, speaks much better and more intelligently.... the catholic school girls says "like" almost every other word...
your statement is absurd. I actually have counted the word "like" when the Catholic school girl spoke, and she only used that word three times. Also, the usage of a particular word would not actually make a difference of a person being intellectual or not.
@sylversterlo ok maybe i exaggerated on how much she said "like", but it absolutely makes a difference in considering someone an intellectual or not, in two ways actually. One, the way that person is perceived as knowing how to speak properly and with a certain fluidity definitely depends on the level of intellect. Two, an intellectual person refrains from saying "like", they know how to fill that space with something more productive....
@scottydawg80 i know what you mean but i know plentyof muslims who say 'like'. why? because its like the people in interrviews who say 'you know' and how the debate judge saying 'and, and, and' its pop culture in at least western society to say like alot man. u been under a rock or something scotty? haha

and this is kinda of the same thing as having black and white schools which america knows all about, and how it makes white and black relationships harder to take form
I see the Rabbi's point but this happens in all schools. I went to an inner city school where the Muslims hung around together, Hindus hung around together, Christians...etc. There was some integration but not as much. RE lessons were also the easiest to bunk. They need to recognise that this problem goes beyond faith schools.
I heard twice during this section of the debate that Religion teaches tolerance and respect for your fellow man. How can that be true when so many wars through history have been religious and the bloodshed that has happened in the name of religion. Doesn't seem very tolerant to me.
If Dawkins had his way, he would take children away from their father's connection with God and leave them 'free' to decide for themselves what right and wrong were. When children were then excited by the glitter and glamour of a secular life free from sin, he would take then into his school of thought and bombard them with facts and knowledge until their common sense was destroyed.

The Rabbi seems to understand the point of self understanding and learning. He seems to welcome the fact that anyone, and children more importantly, have the opportunity and DECISION to make their own choices and follow their own beleifs. This is the core of what Richard Dawkins is talking about. He is not totally against religion, but about people being forced into a relgion.
Hahah this muslim principal is all full of himself until Richard Dawkins asks him a single question at 7:21 and he dodges the question so hard. Almost as good as the Bush shoe-throw.

@SunnyLovetts You're ignorant. We don't want athiests schools, we want schools without religious pressure into a single sector. We also do not think God is automactically incorect (which makes no sense, i think what your meaning is not real) we look at reason and logic, and most importantly scientific facts.
5:25 at first that guy says its a fact that students from faith schools do better in further education but then as soon as a person disagrees, he says teh government needs to do a large scale search

Run, Dawkins, run!! Keep running from Dr. Craig, from debate. That's the best thing you can do to keep your followers.
In case you followers don't know, he's been avoiding Dr. Craig, for he... is afraid to death of debating him! LOL... Even an atheist publicly accused him of cowardice!
At least where I was brought up, I can testify Catholic religion rules and they are the less "tolerant" and have the less respect towards non catholics.
At primary school the catholic children bullied me so bad I changed from school. Even at college (a multicultural one) there was only the catholics harrasing me with a bible, chasing me all around trying to "save my soul" in the "only possible way" "joining them" as if I was a new potential investor, they simply don't respect!
Dawkins was about to make a very good point: in many faiths you can later choose to leave the religion. But in the Muslim faith, if you leave it, you are supposed to be killed. If you teach a child this, are you really allowing them to choose for themself?
@GuacamoleKun Exactly! It's called 'selling pig in a poke'. They sincerely allow and hope people to come to their religion, but at the same time they don't tell them the consequences if they leave it.
@lewisner Hmm.. good point. I think that fear does hold a lot of people captive in their religion. But when a person loses faith, the punishment of Hell stops being real. The stoning-to-death is real weather you believe the religion or not.
@GuacamoleKun Actually if you search "Atheist Experience Fear Of Hell" there are a few callers who say that though they are atheist they are still terrified of hell. Things planted in your mind as a kid aren't easily shaken off.
@GuacamoleKun the thing is not becoming a muslim to learn about it... you learn about alot of a religion and only then u join the religion u want. or non at all
@GuacamoleKun plus pacific muslims think that when a person leaves the religion they are as if dead... they dont have to go after them to kill them obviously there are those that take it more seriously but then again in the bible it says atheists should be stoned to death so hey... same shit
@ImDavidBizar Thats what i was just thinking lol. I have much more respect for muslims now...or at least her and her parents. I usually have a prejudice against any religious people (growing up in a small Texas town will do that), but its nice to know they can be intelligent and rational too, without spouting rehearsed rhetoric. :P
@peterdcarter1 Yup ! Even non religious parents lie to their kids about a fat bloke in a red costume riding around on a sleigh being pulled by flying reindeer ! Some people hate religion but can't wait for christmas !! Humanity is psycotic :-D
Babies are not born choosing which parents they want. They are born with the parents they are given. Children are not intellectually capable of making decisions that deterimine which religion they are, they can only be taught which religion their parents chose. It is right that parents teach their children principles morally acceptable and to deny them that is mental abuse. Whether those morals are christian governed or not, children must be taught the meaning of love and to me That may be God
If One HUMAN tries to create a child that is PART of himself/herself biologically then why is it WRONG in Sir Richard Dawkins' eyes that the parents try to create a socially CLONE. I mean the child is a 1/2 CLONE that is the PURPOSE of RE-PRODUCTION. Repeating what was you so that YOU are RE-Produced in the next generation. Re-producing just the BODY is for animals like Sir Richard Dawkins. We humans Re-Produce COMPLETE HUMANS with minds too.
@forsakendemo I disagree. Religion has to be taught and learned. It is not like breathing or blinking, which are ahrd wired into our brain. Our parents do not teach, or send us to schools, to learn how to breathe or blink., yet that is how religion MUST BE reproduced. And the point of reproduction is NOT to carry on your personal beliefs, it is to ensure the continuation of the species. That is why wanting to have sex is the strongest urge in nature, and why it feels so damn good!
@becker286 that is what i am saying btw religion/culture is part of being human... but if people want to remove it then its their wish its Mr. Dawkins' wish
I think the main problem is that theists believe atheism is a contending belief instead of a lack of belief. Surely a childhood of being told they can believe what they want without repercussions is better than a childhood of being taught that one faith is greater than another one, but you can choose if you want, no pressure.
the Muslim gentleman starts talking about facts, however this same man believes that God is a fact ... going off faith is not fact without evidence, of which non exists that is not contradictory
Why is it that people assume you need to be religious to be moral? I'm an atheist and I know full well not to rape a child or to kill an animal. Geez.
In actuality, there are multitudes of morality schools, and those ultimately mean nothing to the next person. Meaning you can have 2 Christians reading the same Bible & serving the same Church, but still own different opinions.
I'm sorry. Did she say it "teaches you to be tolerant"? If anything, the fact that the very inherent requirement of faith schools is preference of one faith over another makes it by definition the very epitome of intolerance or at least segregation. You must be blind not to see that its a natural prerequisite of faith schools - without this prerequisite they wouldn't be faith schools.
As an atheist, I might add, I totally agree with the Rabi (apart from the idea they should be "indoctrinated at all - to me "indoctrination" is not too dissimilar from a form what one may discern as a type of slavery). Also, the use of the word "belong" in terms of the state of children in society and education systems is rather worrying to me and that this very possessive attitude is a preventative measure against individuality and the critical thinking consequently enabling the individual.
“I make no apology?” there is a long overdue apology think about the crusades, were they irrelevant in English/British history? This is basically the level so sheer ignorance in the church today its like "Yeah sorry we killed and butchered thousands of people oh and practiced cannibalism at one point in the name of OUR god but hey does not matter we owe no apology" I hope nothing but the worst for such a arrogant pathetic man.
Richard is a dork.... take some personal responsibility when it comes to raising ones own child. By Richard's logic it should be up to a child to rase itself?lol right!
what a bunch of crap you atheist are full of...truly "a bunch of brown nose disciples" you can tell by the smirk of his face that there's always room for one more nose up his ass!
@romney27 What are you talking about? That's not what he's saying at all. He's saying that if the child wasn't born in a religious family, he wouldn't be religious and have the CHOICE to be religious once he actually knows what it is. That is how you raise a child, where the child gets to think for itself, but you don't want that?
The smirks, well those usually come up when the person they speak to obviously is a complete idiot, and won't realize they are wrong.
@youtubian2500 any kid has a choice already as to what they want to believe when they grow up. It's not reality to think that kids are to make their own decisions at first. That's not how humans learn in the first place. We learn from watching primarily, it's just an evolutionary fact. That's the irony with richard, he invokes science but offers none to support his argument. Instead he makes emotional pleas as to why he thinks his subjective opinion should exist rather than what is observed.
@romney27 Sigh. So you say that a kid that might want milk, can't have milk because it's not their choice to make? Or, a kid might want to play with his toys but has no choice when his parents tell him to watch TV?
Indeed we learn from watching, but we also learn from experience and from independent thinking.
Forcing a kid to be part of a religion because the kid's parents are,
is like forcing a kid to be a murderer or a store clerk because his parents were.
@youtub contrary, what about an infant? do you let it sit there on the grown till it chooses to walk? Culturally we are social beings and being rejected from the group decreases survivability. Parents have always taught from the beginning the things that increase survival.
"murderers" and theology is such an oblique analogy that I'm not sure it can be considered valid. On the other hand many children will follow in their parents foot steps, criminal or otherwise. my point remains strong.lo
The rabbi says at :31 that we must love our neighbor as we love ourselves , well that is exactly what Jesus Christ teaches and is the core fundamental of Christianity. However the Quran and Muhammad taught to fight and kill the unbeliever and slay them where ever you find them. Also the Quran says that on judgement day the rocks will cry out "oh ye Muslim, there is a Jew hiding behind me , come kill him "
I oppose the rabi's comment, "indoctrination should come from the home or from weekend schools." I've seen problems result from indoctrination; nothing positive from it.
Najda made a great point against correlation that I hope Mukadam took note of. I'm glad Dawkins and Sheerman challenged him as well.

Evidence: FAKE INTELLECTUAL

At least where I was brought up, I can testify Catholic religion rules and they are the less "tolerant" and have the less respect towards non catholics.
At primary school the catholic children bullied me so bad I changed from school. Even at college (a multicultural one) there was only the catholics harrasing me with a bible, chasing me all around trying to "save my soul" in the "only possible way" "joining them" as if I was a new potential investor, they simply don't respect!
norteamericana100 4 months ago
Dawkins was about to make a very good point: in many faiths you can later choose to leave the religion. But in the Muslim faith, if you leave it, you are supposed to be killed. If you teach a child this, are you really allowing them to choose for themself?
GuacamoleKun 4 months ago 111
@GuacamoleKun Exactly! It's called 'selling pig in a poke'. They sincerely allow and hope people to come to their religion, but at the same time they don't tell them the consequences if they leave it.
1120110 4 months ago
@GuacamoleKun I suppose you are giving the child as much choice as they have in the christian faith "You can believe in god or be tortured forever".
lewisner 3 months ago
@lewisner Hmm.. good point. I think that fear does hold a lot of people captive in their religion. But when a person loses faith, the punishment of Hell stops being real. The stoning-to-death is real weather you believe the religion or not.
GuacamoleKun 3 months ago
@GuacamoleKun Actually if you search "Atheist Experience Fear Of Hell" there are a few callers who say that though they are atheist they are still terrified of hell. Things planted in your mind as a kid aren't easily shaken off.
lewisner 3 months ago
@GuacamoleKun the thing is not becoming a muslim to learn about it... you learn about alot of a religion and only then u join the religion u want. or non at all
RaitoDenki 2 months ago
@GuacamoleKun plus pacific muslims think that when a person leaves the religion they are as if dead... they dont have to go after them to kill them obviously there are those that take it more seriously but then again in the bible it says atheists should be stoned to death so hey... same shit
RaitoDenki 2 months ago
@GuacamoleKun yes we should choose our religion (if we need anything) its our right like speech, write etc.
when we gonna see religion like that A RIGHT

@ImDavidBizar Thats what i was just thinking lol. I have much more respect for muslims now...or at least her and her parents. I usually have a prejudice against any religious people (growing up in a small Texas town will do that), but its nice to know they can be intelligent and rational too, without spouting rehearsed rhetoric. :P

Mschocolalicious 5 months ago
If One HUMAN tries to create a child that is PART of himself/herself biologically then why is it WRONG in Sir Richard Dawkins' eyes that the parents try to create a socially CLONE. I mean the child is a 1/2 CLONE that is the PURPOSE of RE-PRODUCTION. Repeating what was you so that YOU are RE-Produced in the next generation. Re-producing just the BODY is for animals like Sir Richard Dawkins. We humans Re-Produce COMPLETE HUMANS with minds too.
forsakendemo 5 months ago
@forsakendemo I disagree. Religion has to be taught and learned. It is not like breathing or blinking, which are ahrd wired into our brain. Our parents do not teach, or send us to schools, to learn how to breathe or blink., yet that is how religion MUST BE reproduced. And the point of reproduction is NOT to carry on your personal beliefs, it is to ensure the continuation of the species. That is why wanting to have sex is the strongest urge in nature, and why it feels so damn good!
becker286 5 months ago
@becker286 that is what i am saying btw religion/culture is part of being human... but if people want to remove it then its their wish its Mr. Dawkins' wish
forsakendemo 5 months ago
I think the main problem is that theists believe atheism is a contending belief instead of a lack of belief. Surely a childhood of being told they can believe what they want without repercussions is better than a childhood of being taught that one faith is greater than another one, but you can choose if you want, no pressure.

the Muslim gentleman starts talking about facts, however this same man believes that God is a fact ... going off faith is not fact without evidence, of which non exists that is not contradictory

Why is it that people assume you need to be religious to be moral? I'm an atheist and I know full well not to rape a child or to kill an animal. Geez.
DysfunctionalTurnip 5 months ago
@DysfunctionalTurnip A hallucination.

Hoganply 5 months ago

By Richard's logic it should be up to a child to rase itself?lol right!
what a bunch of crap you atheist are full of...truly "a bunch of brown nose disciples" you can tell by the smirk of his face that there's always room for one more nose up his ass!
romney27 6 months ago
@romney27 What are you talking about? That's not what he's saying at all. He's saying that if the child wasn't born in a religious family, he wouldn't be religious and have the CHOICE to be religious once he actually knows what it is. That is how you raise a child, where the child gets to think for itself, but you don't want that?
The smirks, well those usually come up when the person they speak to obviously is a complete idiot, and won't realize they are wrong.
*smirk*
youtubian2500 6 months ago
@youtubian2500 any kid has a choice already as to what they want to believe when they grow up. It's not reality to think that kids are to make their own decisions at first. That's not how humans learn in the first place. We learn from watching primarily, it's just an evolutionary fact. That's the irony with richard, he invokes science but offers none to support his argument. Instead he makes emotional pleas as to why he thinks his subjective opinion should exist rather than what is observed.
romney27 6 months ago
@romney27 Sigh. So you say that a kid that might want milk, can't have milk because it's not their choice to make? Or, a kid might want to play with his toys but has no choice when his parents tell him to watch TV?
Indeed we learn from watching, but we also learn from experience and from independent thinking.
Forcing a kid to be part of a religion because the kid's parents are,
is like forcing a kid to be a murderer or a store clerk because his parents were.
Your argumentation falls flat.
youtubian2500 6 months ago 2
