@Maddolis Compared to their out of genre metalcore rip offs, they are. In the Melodic Death genre/ metal genre itself. They are about where they deserve to be.
Considering, aside from all the pop/commercial metal bands (glam through nu meta/metalcore) there'd be something like 7-10 bands bigger than In Flames, and that'd be it (Metallica, Maiden, Priest, Slayer, Megadeth, Sabbath, Opeth... not too many), and they've become insanely popular (and commercialised their sound too).

damn it my 3 explanations i wrote weren't typed so i'll generalize it here: screamo music is horrible and so is death metal. cookie cutter bands are nowhere near the bands i listed. their lyrics have soul like this song. hard rock isn't cookie cutter but bands like kings of leon and shinedown (some) are cookie cutter. i listen to music for a nice sound, lyrics and the vocalist hooked me on this band. i credit them for modernizing a very queensrhyce oriented sound and making it even better.
Well, for me you know about diverse metal. The whole screamo/hardcore thing was because you mentioned a metalcore band (All That Remains), which is in my opinion pretty awesome. And you should remember that very close-minded metalheads do not consider alternative metal bands like Slipknot, Chevelle and Finger Eleven to be real metal because they're influenced by "mainstream elements". I, however, like them and consider them metal.

Here's my band idea: 2 bassists, one on rhythm other on background, drummer, 2 guitarists, 2 keyboards and a turntablist. Everyone in the band will sing. The rhythm bass will be jazz influenced. One guitarist metal the other mexican music (hey they have a cool guitar style). The band as a whole will be jazzy industrial heavy metal, make songs influenced from many genres and a really active live band. Also own studio
I agree with what you said about not considering Slipknot, Finger Eleven, and Chevelle as real metal. I don't know why, but it just bugs me when people come up to me and say "I'm a metalhead! I listen to Slipknot and Disturbed!" No. Just no. Go find yourself a good band like Opeth, Dark Tranquillity, or listen to Job For A Cowboy's album "Doom" (and tell me your opinion on it) and then tell me that you're a metalhead.

actually slipknot is alternative metal. disturbed is hard rock and they have some great songs. but job for a cowboy i really don't like, opeth is ok and dark tranquility needs better vocals but has an awesome sound. I listen to more hard rock than metal admittedly, and yes, underground stuff is usually better. and never call me a metalhead. I hate those racist sexist bastards. I don't let my music define me like them, i don't act like them, i don't think like them.

Considering, aside from all the pop/commercial metal bands (glam through nu meta/metalcore) there'd be something like 7-10 bands bigger than In Flames, and that'd be it (Metallica, Maiden, Priest, Slayer, Megadeth, Sabbath, Opeth... not too many), and they've become insanely popular (and commercialised their sound too).

I Know there is a noise music genre, wich I find very incomprehensible too, but recent generations like that so give them a chance... I know there is a order in all that sreaming songs some of them (ie, protest, dhalia, necrophagist) also play very good the guitar, drums and bass but I agree, the commercial majority are crap...

damn it my 3 explanations i wrote weren't typed so i'll generalize it here: screamo music is horrible and so is death metal. cookie cutter bands are nowhere near the bands i listed. their lyrics have soul like this song. hard rock isn't cookie cutter but bands like kings of leon and shinedown (some) are cookie cutter. i listen to music for a nice sound, lyrics and the vocalist hooked me on this band. i credit them for modernizing a very queensrhyce oriented sound and making it even better.

Well, for me you know about diverse metal. The whole screamo/hardcore thing was because you mentioned a metalcore band (All That Remains), which is in my opinion pretty awesome. And you should remember that very close-minded metalheads do not consider alternative metal bands like Slipknot, Chevelle and Finger Eleven to be real metal because they're influenced by "mainstream elements". I, however, like them and consider them metal.

late time to respond but yeah, very true. my favorite style is industrial metal. Here's my band idea: 2 bassists, one on rhythm other on background, drummer, 2 guitarists, 2 keyboards and a turntablist. Everyone in the band will sing. The rhythm bass will be jazz influenced. One guitarist metal the other mexican music (hey they have a cool guitar style). The band as a whole will be jazzy industrial heavy metal, make songs influenced from many genres and a really active live band. Also own studio

I agree with what you said about not considering Slipknot, Finger Eleven, and Chevelle as real metal. I don't know why, but it just bugs me when people come up to me and say "I'm a metalhead! I listen to Slipknot and Disturbed!" No. Just no. Go find yourself a good band like Opeth, Dark Tranquillity, or listen to Job For A Cowboy's album "Doom" (and tell me your opinion on it) and then tell me that you're a metalhead.

actually slipknot is alternative metal. disturbed is hard rock and they have some great songs. but job for a cowboy i really don't like, opeth is ok and dark tranquility needs better vocals but has an awesome sound. I listen to more hard rock than metal admittedly, and yes, underground stuff is usually better. and never call me a metalhead. I hate those racist sexist bastards. I don't let my music define me like them, i don't act like them, i don't think like them.
