  • mtv fucked up everything...

  • David coverdale makes alot of valid points that hold true to this day....But what this interview made me think of the most, was how much i missed stone & acid washed jeans & wonder if jean makers will ever produce them again for retail....: )

  • He was very sexy :)

  • Where the fuck did he get this accent!

  • @dannymcmince HE IS BRITISH LOL

  • He sounds like Patrick fucking Stewart!

  • You can call him a sell out but he has an amazing voice; very soulful when the right song comes along!

  • Complete tosser who sold out 25years ago.Hey coverdale did Iron maiden become a bitch to the industry in the late 80's?NO THEY DID NOT because they said fuck off to the extra cash but you said yes please that'll pay for the luxury cabim in Reno you girls blouse!

  • In terms of music history, David Coverdale is a major singer--his voice is classic. And always strikes me as down to earth...

  • im not a fucking creature, im a rock n roll singer...

  • I'm speechless. I mean, I'm trying to made up a good comment here, but....Blond4You and took the words right out of my mouth.

  • all so true

  • my idol...

  • Listen to me people...if you truly love great, balls-out, high-spirited hard rock, you really owe it to yourself to run out and buy the new Whitesnake CD "Forever More." I just bought it today (April 29 '11) and I promise you will not be disappointed...it fucking rocks! The whole CD is solid from start to finish, a superb mix of go-for-the throat aggressive ass-kicking and beautiful, rich, uplifting ballads and melodies. Whitesnake is back and they are keeping the flame of hard rock alive!

  • what happened to his language? He speaks like like a Septic. Clever cunt but has betrayed all the ideas he professes by becoming part of the machine.

  • thats so true hes so smart

  • Seems to me David called out the excess of the 80s as it was happening. The next wave of music after hair metal was grunge which pretty much avoided the pitfalls he described. It seems we are now due for another reality check in music. The music business is a mess now, as reflected by the played out hip hop/party rap nonsense. Music can be more thought provoking and meaningful to many again, instead the current schlock.

  • @boredsmile yeah, i guess you could go with grunge instead of the 80's if you dont enjoy music sounding good, artists looking good, or lyrics having any thoughtful meaning whatsoever.

  • @Cr1mSiR There are many ways to respond to your reply. I've decided to just use Smashing Pumpkins as a Grunge example to disprove your statement. The Pumpkins music sounded great. The Pumpkins always had a good looking bass player. "Today", "Disarm". or "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" easily crushes the cliched lyrical content of 90% of the 80s hair metal. Hair metal fans never seem to realize they lost because Grunge was about the human expierence inside your head, not what others thought.

  • In the Still of the Night

I hear the wolf howl, honey

    Sniffing around your door

In the Still of the night

I feel my heart beating heavy

Telling me I gotta have more

    'NUFF SAID.

  • pure sex!!!!

  • HE IS...GOD!!!!!

  • sorry, I don't care what any of you are talking about..........sexxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxy

  • Loved his vocals in Whitesnake, & liked it when he was in DP with Bolin!

  • @cnt7t And Hughes. Dont forget his voice too. AMAZING!!

  • i always thought he was full of himself but he seems a decent down to earth guy

  • SUPERB !

  • Even though Slip Of The tongue was way to poppy compared to Whitesnake classics like lovehunter, trouble & slide it in. He is still very honest and gives a great interview here about the industry.

  • good interview

  • If the trappings are such bullshit, then why is he flaunting them? Fingerless gloves and faggy boots? Come on, dude, walk the talk.

  • Pelo menos o Coverdale vem equipado com um cérebro e um enorme par de "bolas" para contar o que se passa nesta indústria.

  • Claro q sim!

  • Claro q sim! É isso tudo!

  • This is best music interview I've heard in a long time. Coverdale's voice sounds alot like David Icke. Thanks for posting.

  • @BTC141 Except Coverdale isn't as batshit crazy clinically insane/paranoid as David "Alien Shapeshifting Reptiles Are Secretly Ruling The Earth, Sheeple" Icke.

  • @zendakk LOL, their only parallel is their accent. I'm sure David Icke has his reasons for doing what he does but he doesn't come anywhere near David Coverdale. Coverdale is the best. Long live Whitesnake.

  • Total legend. Hes going to go to his grave with a few stories to look back on.

  • @pharry4life he will ot die coverdale will live on in my soul =)

  • Great Advice for any performer, in any venue, with any size or kind of "audience" Do it from the heart, otherwise not only will the audience vomit and reject your performance....you the will too too, and that is worse than being dead....So Be real...be true and do it from the center most part of your BEING!! Connected always to "Mother Earth/Father Sky" The real platform ....The real stage.....Peace Out!

  • He's very opinionated, but so far I'm agreeing with everything he's saying. Very smart dude

  • no bullshit straight to the point David ! Coverdale ROCKS!!

  • Wise words Davie.

  • sexiest man in rock'n'roll EVER

  • Tremendo con esa vestimenta rocker rocker y q voz por dios!!!!! esto es un hombre y lo demas tonterias

  • Smart man.

  • Its GOD!!!!

  • Yes ohh YEs

  • Haha you can take the lad out of the north east.!!

  • Does anyone else think he looks a whole lot like Joe Elliot at times during this interview? lol-

  • Just a little bit and much hotter!

  • @tammysyl I dunnno...Joe was pretty hawawt in his heyday! lolol-

  • What do you mean by hawwat? Joe was and I think he still is hot, though I think David was and still is much hotter

  • David Coverdale, you're awesome! Rock on dude!

  • David,

I am hoping and praying for a full recovery for you! I can't imagine the frustration of what you are going through.

It just isn't the same without Whitesnake creating such amazing music!

Tara - Your big fan in Reno!

  • what is he going through? what happened?

  • his lyrics are fantastic, for example looking for love, still of the night,blindman...

  • omg hes sex on legs

  • he STILL is

  • this is at the very end of the commercial era of whitesnake, when he'd finally had enough. everything after this is MUCH more toned down. most people assume that grunge killed whitesnake just like it did everything else, but this incarnation of the band was already over by 1991 because coverdale was tired and burned out, as is very clearly indicated here. interesting interview, he's so much more cynical than in the 87/88/89 era interviews. it think the whole thing finally got to him.

  • ok i TOTALLY agree with coverdale here, but I don't get as he's bashing music vid's they are showing the MOST corporate of all of whitesnake's videos. I don't get it. There is no consistency lol

  • to me, the idea there is he is saying "look at this crap."

And of course it's the irony that he wanted exactly what he got.... and then didn't want it

  • I hope that David has realized by now that,

Whitesnake sounds empty in their last album, go David and pick up the soul of Whitesnake , pick up the phone and call VANDERBERG.

  • Yeah, the last album wasnt that good. BUT it had some good songs, if only AV was still with them it would've been lots better.

  • All the songs from album SLIP OF THE TONGUE are written by VANDERBERG with a little help from David

    Adrian th KING

  • Adrian's first two album's are the best, the most influential on my playing style-the man is king...agreed!!!

  • that is not correct.. Coverdale is very "instrumental" in the creating of the music (not just lyrics).. haha.. no pun intended! And btw.. FOOL FOR YOUR LOVING.. written by coverdale, moody, marsden!

  • ledgend.. and a true boro lad!!

  • It's such an irony. Coverdale's a smart enough bloke, with the wisdom that comes with experience. And yet... an yet, his lyrics are the worst in the history of the universe. And he knows it.

  • his lyrics are bad.. bullshit

  • Yes, yes - I know you were diasgreeing. I was merely mocking you and your foolish delusions.

  • you obviously havent heard blindman

  • I've heard it too many times thanks.

  • *o* gosh, he was wearing earings!

  • haha "im a fucking rocknroll singer"<333

  • Clever guy. Insightfull and witty.

  • 4:42 - 5:10

In this part he explains today's music.

  • The song in the begging, XD

    wich one is it??

  • Talented ,clever, beautiful, with sense of humour - dream of any woman!!!! ;)

  • @Blond4You you forgot to say RICH AND FAMOUS....but seriously, he is awesome!

  • this is a really smart man right here

  • The man is pure class.. He is as camp as a row of tents. I saw Whitesnake live a few years ago and he took the time out to talk to the audience. I was well impressed

  • Love this man soooooo much, I adore him, his lyrics, his voice, his looks..amazing man.......I

  • David! vc eh lindo!!! Sempre será!!!

    Te amo, amo suas músicas!

    Whitesnake 4ever

  • probably 1990

  • I love this man!!!!!!

    You rock David!

  • David really tells it straight about the music business...

  • JUST TO RECAP for those who have misunderstood - I was expecting him to ''talk'' like that - and HE DOES NOT SOUND LIKE THAT - his gravel husky singing voice is good and a seperate entity to his ''TALKING'' voice

  • Gotcha!! I understood you completely.

Sometimes, nuances over the Internet are misunderstood. Don't worry about it.

Back to Coverdale, am I the only one who absolutely loves the intro to "Now You're Gone"? What a song. His voice is always so awesome!

  • cheers tdiamond - I felt very autistic for a second then

  • Ooooh, poor baby! Exuse me ,pleeeees !!!!I will not it do any more!!!!!!!!!

  • good - cos i was gonna cry then - sniff sniff - ill take my belt off to u next time - and by thunder me trousers will fall down.

  • I promise to you-I will be a good girl and i try to learn English !!!!!! But you must to promise not to call DC as you do!

  • DC = pure sex!! sexiest voice ever, turns me on totally...!!

  • Comment removed

  • fuck me - had no preconceptions of him other than what he is like visually and the music - SPEAKS ALOT OF FUCKING SENSE - good on him - was half expecting an inarticulate coke head with a voice like a food mixer on max setting churning round half a pound of glass gravel and cement .......

  • May be you are deaf if you calling his voice like this?! Make it better if you can or listen Plachido Domingo or anothers opera singers!!!!!

  • I think you may have, possibly, misunderstood his JHARRISJ?

But I must admit, that I don't understand your comment, about opera singers? Please elaborate; I'm curious.

(I admire everyone from Alessandro Safina to David Coverdale.) Thank you in advance.

  • Comment removed

  • about the music the 90s suck!!! 80s forever!!!

  • does coverdale have a bigger vocal range than gillan?

  • @mrfenderbenderman an old comment you've written, but... YES!

  • David, I have total respect for you honest assessment of the crap that has become the music business. Music should never have become intertwined with the idiots that handle the business...they have KILLED what music could become.

  • how can such a low voice sing so high? i really envy this motherfucker

  • What does he say after 2:05 ?

  • "The LA Gear stuff.. you know...I mean, you look at the youth has just been just been brutalized.."

David is referring to the "LA Gear" athletic footwear advertising campaigns. LA Gear was a very popular brand worn by a lot of people; highly mass-marketed at that time. People wore LA Gear just to be cool; not because it was high-end quality footwear, but it was "the cool thing to do".

David Coverdale is not just your average "rock 'n roller". He's an intelligent businessman, as well.

  • That's also why he refers to it as "propaganda" (by big business), when he refers to the "youth has been brutalized".

    Pretty smart dude!! :)

  • I thought that's what he said, just did'nt know what it meant- thank you!! Yeah I know, smart guy. I've watched this interview many times. Feels like he tells the truth. Maybe It's because I don't watch TV :)

  • I never realized he was a smoker. Maybe that's part of why he's got such a deep sexy voice?

I love his candid honesty about the music business, and the battle for genuine artistry; quite an eye opener, coming from one of the biggest rock talents -- ever.

  • anybody knows about he's prevate llife?

  • Private life? He used to be married to Tawny Kitan.

  • I love watching the gorgeous men of whitesnake and could listen to David Coverdale's voice for hours. ;-)

  • Y U MMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • same here! soooo hooooot!

  • The best voice ever

  • Robert Plant is the poor mans Robert Plant, Hasn't been able to sing for 30 years. He could never hit the notes live that he would sing in the studio. and now a grammy for Bluegrass music? Wow, there's something to be proud of for the once great Led Zeppelin front man.

Who cares if his range isn't that of Gillan? Coverdale's voise is just better. I can't stand Gillan's vioce, never could. Just my opinion.

  • @tkojams and old comment I'm responding to.. but Coverdale has a greater range

  • so sexy ..great voice ..great man

  • Lyrically crap? Have you heard all of their stuff? The love songs are the only ones on earth that make sense! Crying in the rain should be studied in uni

  • Take Note - O you critical ones!

There are many RockGods out there. Every one of them has contributed to our entertainment in one way or another. Either you enjoy it or you don't. One thing indisputable- his voice is a powerhouse. I agree totally with what Cov is saying, LIVE music is absolutely unbeatable! Music videos are largely make believe. Give me the real deal any day.

Intelligence & sex. He gets my vote without a doubt!!

    Luv it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • oh..i love david coverdale...i love himmm so much..my fav singer

  • Now THAT'S what a real man looks like!

  • russel crowe imitates his accent!!

  • I love His voice. Mrrrau....

  • Hell Yeeeaah!!!! David!!

  • Well, it's up to one's taste, I guess.

I would say Hughes had the higher range,

but Coverdale had a much more elegant timbre -

therefore: I do appreciate them both.

    (how very diplomatic) ***ggg***

  • Sucked???

Did you ever listen to the Burn album?

  • yeah Burn sucked Glenn Hughes was better Coverdale is a better glam rocker

  • Are you kidding? Ian Gillan, a better vocalist than Coverdale?! Don't think so. Coverdale is the best singer in the world!! And I'm sorry but Gillan can't sing compare to Coverdale....

  • Gillan is a better vocalist for deep purple because he suited their style

  • highwaystar1009: But you can't say that Gillan is a better vocalist because he isn't. Maybe you think he suited their style better but that doesn't make him a better vocalist than Coverdale!

  • it depends because people have different opinions of different vocalists

what ur saying is just ur opinion

anyway, both of them are excellent vocalists imo

  • Yes of course! But Gillan can't sing like Coverdale. That's just a fact... Just because I don't like a singer, he/she still could be the best singer in the world. Coverdale has a bigger vocal range than Gillan. It's not just my opinion, like I said, that's just a fact....

  • i still would do him...anytime!! ohhh yeahh

  • Yes, absolutely! He is so sexy!

  • He's sooo hot!!! Too bad he's about 32 years older than me.

  • Oki...

  • David Coverdale, Eddie Vedder and David Lee Groth has the best Rock Vocal!

  • sexy man

    Sexy voice

  • yes the master my dad brother..is the singer. and guitarist is my dad so haha.

  • David Coverdale has one of the most powerful voices ever

  • Does anybody have a video when Hellion with Ann Boleyn opening for Whitesnake?

  • hmmmm he was hooooot there :P

  • godlike!!!!!!!! he he sooo sexy

  • Fantastic interview!!!

  • Thank you to D.C. for ripping at corporate rock. I wholeheartedly agree.

I loved the way, the bad language was bleeped. Sometimes the sound used, sounded like a car wreck, bad gas or, someone slipping on a banana.

    It made me laugh.

  • yes the master !

  • your a gay cunt

  • The MASTER !!!

    MTW SUCKS !!!

  • some good songs from this man...

  • Yeah I mean he's pretty hot but could never touch Robert Plant !!

  • I can smell some jealousy out here...here is a Brit from Saltburn by the sea who took his career by the cruff of the neck...had the audacity and gall to audition for Deep Purple lead vocalist and did brilliantly...led WS successfully thru the 80s decade, WS wa primarily a defunct band in the 90s, never thought that people saw them as a joke!!

  • Have David Coverdale ben Vocalist in Deep Purple? I dident knew that.

  • Paul Rogers, the only voice of rock.

  • agree!!

    coverdale was good tho

  • I cant believe his economic knowledge. This is unbeliveable for a person in this career field. He is aware of his government economy in the music/entertainment industry.

  • No wonder David Coverdale made it! Not only does he have "IT", he also has the smarts to deal with the business area of making music. He is down to earth, and not afraid to stand up to "The Man". Being a singer myself I know how difficult Sailing Ships is to do, especially live..I am still in awe when i remember it is a guy singing up an emotional storm. Wo!! David Coverdale the Gary Moore of vocalists. Undeniably the best.

  • he is hot, mature, and grounded. PERFECT MAN

  • You're joking! No Steve Perry or Jon Bon Jovi? They both piss on Daltrey!

  • Greatest voices in rock :

    1) David Coverdale of Whitesnake

    2) Ronnie James Dio of Rainbow/Sabbath

    3) Robert Plant of Led Zep

    4) Klaus Meine of Scorpions

    5) Roger Daltrey of The Who

This is my top 5 list!!

  • naaaa where's PAUL RODGERS, ROD STEWART and me?

  • He does have the voice, both singing and speking. He could be a cool college professor if he wanted to be, and, no, not just because he's got the classy Brit accent. Every interview he seems pretty grounded. At least now, anyway.

  • It sounds to me like he has lost his local accent.I come from a place about 15 mile away from where he came from.He come from a very working class back ground.he sounds posh now.he has got a very nice speaking voice i have to say.

  • I know what you mean. He acts like a street scrag and talks like a male Sloan Ranger or doyen of landed gentry. If anything contributed to Whitesnake becoming a joke in the 1990s it was this kind of pretentious facade. Americans fall for the con for a while, but British people see through it from the start.

  • I like to hear people's accent,it's apart your make up,to me any way.I agree with you there.Brian ferry is the same,he took lessons to get a bbc style broadcasting voice.Brian is also from the northeast.may be it something to do with the north east!ha ha.

  • I LOVE Him!!!!!! He is so HOT! Piękny! Bosssski! Cudowny!!!! Mniam!!!!! :P

  • They were really cool and macho back then, believe me! :)
