Uh . . . no. There were no burning 747s and this was a controlled and planned demolition. The Trade towers left a huge footprint of debris and took out nearby buildings. This came straight down, didn't even touch a home only 150 feet away and had a very small, contained foot print of debris. There is nothing similar between the two events. One was a terrorist attack, the other just a huge engineering blunder.

The jets hit the top 1/3 of the towers! If the jets hit near the bottom of the towers I would believe that the towers dropping the way they did was due to the jets! NO jet fuel melted the bottom of the buildings numb nut!

Jet fuel burns at 2000F, and Thermite burns at 4000F. Thermite is used to bring down tall buildings by melting the steel supports in a controled burn. Engineers use thermite to weld train tracks together at the joints.

Volcanos produce pyroclastic clouds and so does thermite.

Train your eyes on the pyroclstic clouds.

actually the twin towers were yes planned but not by the builders but by terrorist. and were hit by an airplane. This implosion was planned by the builders and was controlled. Plus the twin tower collapsing left a huge hole in NY OTSPI left a lot of debris that was eventually cleaned up. Plus in one so many people died and many were hospitalized making the day 9/11 a day to remember those ho gave there lives. This one was just filmed and something exciting that happened

Unfortunately it was too unstable to leave it standing. It would have been an amazing building, but it ended up dividing a community, becoming an eye sore and the impetus for a multi-million dollar law suit that's still unresolved. I think the community really needed to move on from this monumental mistake.

hehe i was there it was awesome it wasnt slanted though the tower was sinking under the weight but the garage wasnt so it just seemed slanted.

Actually it was tilting to the northwest. The engineers explained to us during a media briefing that the first few detonations were to right the building back up to straight because they didn't want the debris falling over the road to the northwest. The last blasts brought the building down. Also, as part of our coverage, every couple months we'd take pics from the same location and place them on a grid so we could see the increasing slant.

well my uncle was the architect and no it want. The way the building was designed was that there was a garage attached to it so it was a building with a garage so that maybe it might be more durable during hurricane seasons. Because of height, the tower sank so it seemed slanted, but it actually wasn't. You may be part of the media crew but im family to the architect.

Interesting, because the engineers, contractors, town of spi AND demolition crew all said it was leaning. Not to mention we took a series of pictures that shows the tower over an 8 month period and documents as it starts to tilt and then continues to do so farther and farther.

If it wasn't leaning, why did the demo crew have to set special charges to right it back to normal before they could bring it down?

No offense, but is it possible the architect is trying to do some damage control?

it wasnt leaning it LOOKED like it was leaning but while it was being built it was straight because of the weight it sunk. you can take pictures and say its leaning but it isnt. trust me idc what spi says because i talked to the architect like 2 days be4 the implosion. either the engineer or the contractor messed up. Probably the engineer because he was supposed to take soil samples and see if the ground was stable enough for a building that large so idc wat you say i trust my tio more than you.

I'm not trying to attack your tio. Please don't misunderstand. When we use grid photography, the camera is placed in the same location every month. Computer grids can't move, only the building can. The building got lower AND began to tilt. The grids don't lie. It didn't just look like it was tilting. Besides, when a 31-story buidling sinks, its almost mathmatically IMPOSSIBLE that it will do so and remain perfectly straight and upright. Sand shifts, that's just its nature. No getting around it.

And upon that, the elevator company found problems. They went in to install the elevators months after measuring the shafts only to realize the cut runners they had were 16 inches too long, and when they used the laser system, the building was 4+ degrees toward the northwest (which is a big difference for 31 stories). I don't think its a coincidence that so many people came across this similar problem.

No building on SPI is "stable". its a sandbar, theres no soil to sample. The problem was someone somewhere deciding to limit the expense of pilings underneath the building. They didn't supply enough support pilings in the center, causing the building to settle towards the outside, primarily the north end. An architect designs things on paper, an engineer is the one who puts the laws of physics to that paper: If an engineer said it was leaning, it was.

Please realize that Sapphire is taller than OT:SPI was (by 3 stories plus the atrium tops), and it hasn't settled nor sunk. Therefore, it didn't sink due to height. Poor design or someone trying to make a buck by leaving out pilings.

I've heard a few engineers say the building wasn't designed with a big enough foot print to stabilize a building that tall. Thats why the parking garage was later changed to be attached to the side of the building, but it wasn't enough. Also, the depth of the sand gets less and less the more north you go on SPI. OTSPI was on the north end. I've also heard about the lack of pilings from a few sources. I think there were a lot of things wrong with that building.

It's not the "largest" or "tallest". The reason it set a record is because it is the tallest "reinforced concrete" building to ever be imploded and the youngest building to ever be imploded. There are bigger and taller buildings that have been imploded but they weren't reinforced concrete. Still very cool. Cool enough that National Geographic bought all the rights exclusively to place cameras at the actual site of implosion. Everyone else had to film it from outside the implosion zone.

yeah why did we have to be so far away. My family and i were like 2 feet in front a stop sign and some cop started yelling at us to go behind it even though we were really far from the building. And then we were like right next to it (the stop sign) and he got all mad again
