Passenger trains are slower on indian railways, freighters are faster as they have more non-stop runs, while passengers stop frequently. Even prestigious trains use the same technology in terms of track and rolling stock. So passenger carrying trains are not so fast and freighters overtaking them makes time-table sense.
Not only in sholapur-daund section but also in the jalgaon-udhna section.
Recently I encountered such occasion wherein my bikaner-secunderabad holiday special was halted after every 2 stations to pass the incoming freighters from jalgaon side to udhna.....
What's so unbelievable about this? The IR gets nearly 80% of its revenue from freight. It is in the charter of almost all rail systems worldwide that their incorporation is / was for the primary purpose of moving freight. Passengers are secondary. There are nearly 2 dozen rakes operated by the IR that get preference over the Bombay Rajdhani so that they may reach the JNPT in time for the goods to be exported.
good video........even when i was travelling in mas-cstm exp my train stopped for an ACC cement rake to cross........its common in the sholapur -daund section
Hi there, I think it's a usual practice by IR to prioritise ConRaj (Prority Freight) above passenger trains (except the 2xxx superfasts) for the right of way.
did you know that sometimes a freight is given preference for safety reasons over a passenger/express?Practice is visible close to national holidays so that any antisocial elements don't cause damage to life.

A few hundred moaning passengers can wait a bit for a freight train with goods worth many millions, surely!

Freight trains make money; passenger trains do not. Hence, the priority for freight trains over the others.
