Yeah, Mandel's solos sounded bland and totally un-inspiring. It always sounded to me as if he was not listening to the groove. Sort of sloppy. It seems that they could have easily found a great guitarist to replace Vestine who might have contributed more energy to their sound.
@kauipaul Exactly I've always liked the Sunflower better. In fact they wanted to bring Mike Bloomfield in(can you imagine that - Mike and Canned heat, that would be a bomb) but he said he's honoured and would loved it but he just came home after being a few years on the road.
Who on earth and why gave 'Uggybow' three thumbs down??
Uggybow - I think all songs from this january '70 session for the German program Beat Club are available on Youtube - Let's work together, Future Blues, and this one. Don't know if they did anything else, though.
This is from the same 3rd January, 1970 performance of "Let's Work Together" on Musikladen but I have never seen this portion before. Thanks very much for posting this clip here.
Yup, "Future Blues" as well. One question: where did you get the info that it's 3rd january in question? My research tells me that after they finished their UK dates (january 1970, last one being Royal Albert Hall 30 january), they went to Germany on 31 january, played in Munich on 1 february and went on with the tour (check out the some rare footage form Montreux, early february 1970 uploaded recently by... me! ha)
I know for sure that this was first broadcasted on 31 january 1970.
I also have a scan from Melody Maker which says that "they leave Britain on the 31st for dates in Germany", which means that they taped this session the very same day... mystery solved.
unusual to see a Telecaster fitted with a Bigsby!

@rocknrolla81 My interpretation of Vintage Pop is popular music of years gone by. This was very popular, and is from years gone by.

This was the best line-up of Canned Heat! In my opinion Mandel was way better than Vestine...

I think I was once mistaken for the lead singer of "Canned Heat" by a wannabe hippy social worker. In reality I was just unemployed.

vestine red and black fender american telecaster with a bigsby and blind owl1958 gold top lespaul
geeyouknit345 2 years ago
It's Harvey Mandel on that Telecaster, Al's Les Paul has P-90s and warp stoptail which would make it a 1953-1955.
Great stuff!

I saw it online on the beat club video site. It might have supposed to been 30, January 1970 and possibly they left a 0 out of the date though.

Ah - thanks for clearing that up, I have this info from tv. com (all beat club episodes and air dates are there):
Canned Heat - "Let's Work Together" and closing music "Move Right On Down the Road"
Aired 16:00-17:03 (4:00pm - 5:03pm) Saturday"
I also have a scan from Melody Maker which says that "they leave Britain on the 31st for dates in Germany", which means that they taped this session the very same day... mystery solved.
