  • YMO is awesome! I bet you've never heard of irish Japanese Popstars though! See their US tour video on our page!

  • なつかしいですネ。

    YMOは、ゲーム音楽の神‼

  • I can't understand anything the vocoder says.

  • new wave synthpop and new wave funk awesome

  • stereo化出来ないものでしょうか?

  • いや~懐かしい。

    中学の頃ずっとずっと聴いてました。

    コノ世の中かテクノで行くもんだと思い切っていました。

    有難うございました。

  • Wish I could have been at any of these concerts.

  • Dank U.

    I love Y.m.o.

  • Excellent!!!!!

  • The second song is actually called "Firecracker". It was a cover song YMO did by Martin Denny. ... What plays usually before it is called "Computer Game" with all the old school game FX. :)

  • amazing!!!!! i just love it!!

  • Err the 3rd tune i meant.

  • I`m sure the 2nd tune was named space invaders theme(in UK, that is).

    Can anyone confirm this???

  • Wow, I've been listening to electronic music since the days of acid house, but never heard of YMO. Just found out about them today, I'm so happy right now! Why isn't melodic electronic music like this made anymore!?

  • All praise to DutchDJ4Fun for this marvelous animation. This is the true tribute to this combo we love around the world. Thank you!

  • ThanX 4 uploading this!!!! So many memories! Some of them sad....but what a BAND!!!

  • Along with Kraftwerk, YMO are largely responsible for the advent of modern forms of electronic music... They were true musical visionaries and pioneers, and significantly influenced the Detroit techno scene (leading to House - Garage - Drum and Bass etc.).

My favourite YMO track is Technopolis, but Behind the Mask is a close second. This is a great mix, and lots of good memories evoked by it... Thanks for sharing!

  • I agree on YMo as one of the biggest influences on electronic music, and Kraftwerk sure contributed too, But i have to say that Tangerine Dream is the Mother of all european electronic music.

Kraftwerk was originally named Organisation and was formed in 1968... a year after Tangerine Dream.

TD was a pioneer in what is called Berliner Schule.

  • Behind the Mask has such a... triumphant melody, somehow. Real fist-pumper.

  • You are right to emphasize on the melody. You are clever. Thanks.

  • この中にはありませんが、このLIVEのアルバムの中では、「THE END OF ASIA」が一番好きです。

  • あなたのこの歴史的な録音・録画に感謝します。

  • Maybe someone other than me on Youtube has their own copy of "Best One 81-82' in their album collection. If so,maybe he or she could tell me,then post some or all of it on Youtube.

  • I started to listen to Y.M.O. in 1984,after 1 of my 2 brothers returned From 6 months in Japan as an exchange student. He let me borrow a cassette album called"Best One 81-82".I got hooked immediately to Y.M.O. on that album, and wish i could remember the first song on it."Tong Poo" is 1 of my favorites,as is "Japanese Gentlemen,Stand up, Please"& "Citizens Of Science".My #1 favorite on "Best One 81-82"is an instrumental that i can't remember the title of.

  • buenisimo del mejor tecno que se ha hecho en mucho tiempo

  • Good man DutchDJ4Fun, really brings me back.

  • thanks for uploading this I love ymo!

  • I hadn't heard of YMO until 2 weeks ago. They have influenced so many groups , you can hear their samples in so many other songs

  • weird ,magical and fantastic , this was our music of the 80,s along with kraftwerk . where have the weirdos gone.

  • Fantastic,greetings for you.

  • This is a favourite of mine and I remember when they first emerged. In my opinion, YMO and Kraftwerk pioneered the way for Techno and hip-hop.

  • Huh? HUH?! HUH??!!!

  • pioneering? i don't think 2pac and biggie were hgeavily influenced by YMO.

  • Techno, definitely, hip-hop, not so much. That genre is mostly rooted in Jamaican popular music. Afrika Bambaata sampling 'Trans-Europe Express' isn't really a major influence.

But I should reiterate that acts like Kraftwerk and YMO were largely responsible for bringing electronic music out of the experimental / realized classical music niche.

  • i always come back to this, good mix

  • It is good selection !!

  • Thanks! What is that first song (0:00-3:40)?

  • Behind the Mask
