  • Tonight my dear little pet cat Josephine died suddenly and I got up to listen to this song at 2:48 am as I did 2 months ago at the time my Mother died 10 years ago and now I hear my dear little cat calling me as she did just before she died tonight at 1:30 am. Songs like this are the gift of God to help us remember the good days and get over the bad ones!

  • As I lisrened I heard my Dear Mother gone now 10 years calling me in days of old and tears came to my eyes as Robert White sang this. When she was living I offten played his album sangs my father sang.

  • Have lovely memories of Robert singing at concerts and talking with him-He sang all the songs my father used to sing to me-so kind - Thank you for posting

  • Robert White sang the tenor/baritone duet with Tom Lockard (of the Mariners) in the premiere of my husband's (Walter Latzko) Christmas Cantata in the Summerfield Methodist Church in Dobbs Ferry, NY in 1955. I have a recording of the live performance. He visited us in Blooming Grove, NY several times, and we knew he was going to be a great singer.

  • I love the old sweet songs and he really tugs the heart strings. Thanks for posting.

  • So like McCormack, it is wonderful

  • actually, i remember robert had an irish show on WATV, channel 13 from newark back around 1950. i think he's my age which would make him around 14 at the time. used to have step dancers, story tellers, singers, and musicians. he certainly grew to possess a fine tenor voice. his father used to be "the silver masked tenor" and was very big on the radio in my parents' day.

  • I first heard Robert White a number of years ago when I bought one of his albums. I am delighted to find him on YouTube.

I grew up listening to John McCormack and was surprised and delighted when I heard Robert sing. "The Thorn Tree" remains a favourite of mine.

To Robert's brother: what a lovely thing to say about him

    God bless

    Teresa.

  • I have never heard a more consistently beautiful voice with the clearest diction and perfect intonation and timbre as Tenor Robert White. I'm very lucky to have listened to him sing since he was 5 years of age. I'm his brother!....PRWnyc

  • What a wonderful voice. Please tell me where this version of the song is from. Many thanks.

  • Robert White is my favorite lyric tenor. His warmth, the beautiful tone and high notes, and perfect method add pleasure to any song he sings. It is a shame he didn't record more! He has 2 cds out and is featured on a few collection of Irish music. Try Birdsongs at Eventide!

  • I am thrilled to have discovered this tenor...cant understand why I did not know about him, though I have been in the trade + 50 years! He is so fantastic - pulls my heart strings....

  • Wonder if there is something that can keep you stay warm in the coldest winter of New York City? Just listen to Mr. White. Anything cold will be melt in his beautiful voice. A great tenor and wonderful teacher!

  • I have a tape box [tape lost] from long ago from RCA called Robert WHITE MEMORIES [1981 RCA Ltd] whicj I enjoyed tremendousley - wonder if anybody can give me info as to replace it. He, to my mind, has no equal.
