You are right, storing the passwords on your pc isn't the safest thing to do, but as long as your pc stays secure and doesn't manage to get into anyone else's hands, roboform is a great tool. Another password system which is good is the 'ironkey' managers which saves encrypted passwords onto the USB device instead of your computer but doesn't fill in forms etc.
