  • ATHENS 2004 WILL BE THE BEST OLYMPICS EVER

  • I remember that all my family was at the beach, but I stayed home, because I´ve never lost any transmission of the ceremonies. I´m Spanish (from Andalucía, so also Mediterranean), and I´ve always loved Greek culture, specially their mythology. Seeing the Olympics being held there was a tribute to ancient gods of victory and human sacrifice to reach the glory. I thought that Olympic gods could jump down to Earth in any moment to follow the ceremony in communion with mortals...

  • @Olaunis Beautifully said. :-)

  • @Olaunis

    You are totally right!!

The Greek Gods were on earth following the ceremony with mortals.

Their magic filled the night and everything we watched was really spectacular from the start to the finish!!

That's the best Opening Ceremony for Olympic Games I have ever watched.

I am Mexican, and had the opportunity to have followed this ceremony in my job by noon in my lunch time, due to the difference of hours between Greece and Mexico.

  • @kalispera64 me alegro de que estés de acuerdo conmigo... ¡y también de que hables español! :-)

  • @Olaunis

  • This sort of wants to make me try to compose something for the Olympics...NOT THE ANNOUNCERS...the music.

Anyway...I think it distasteful that the announcers said 'It took them a hundred years...and they finally came up with something...' or whatever. OF COURSE IT TAKES TIME. Put another way...before the book is written, steps are taken

  • This made me cry

  • @GiresunsporFener28 hellas invented olympic games so who cares what the chineese did...HELLAS FOREVER!!!!!

  • Most of us forget that the Olympic Games were established by Hercules himself with one and only purpose...to satisfy Zeus!...and not for Adidas and Nike to make more money, or a country to promote itself and increase its incomes from tourism. Think again when you watch such a show!

  • Dear narrators..shut the f@@k up!!! :)

  • Pure art!

  • i agree with 'acatisfinetoowut' ... Athens ceremonies were simple but very elegant ,,, i loved them and Beijing were technically very very sound ceremonies ... but here i dont want to forget the Sydney 2000 ceremonies and especially the Opening ceremony of Sydney games which was for the first time tagged as "the biggest show on planet Earth". the concept, displays, colors and lighting of cauldron ,,, everything was very spectecular in those games ,,,

  • antrihila me panei vlepontas avton ton perifano lao na dimiourgi ... kai thlipsi me pianei otan vlepo to poso egwistes kai partakides imaste ...krima

  • proud to be greek hellas for ever

  • as much as i love England i got to addmit the opening ceromony won't as good as bejing or athens

  • these two announcers were so fucking annoying... more interested in hearing the sound of their own voices than taking in the emotion of it all. the broadcast would have been better served by a little more silence from them in my opinion

  • It was awesome...Beijing was cool but Athens Olympic had soul. So good to see an old civilization like Greece like my own country India.

  • The song at 1:35 can I download it somewhere? It's beautifull.

  • τι εχεισ κανει ρε παπαιωαννου.....

  • Beautiful and moving!

  • after 2008 china this looks sooooo ordinary.....not saying that this isnt spectacular its jus no comparison to Beijing Olympic.....

  • @muhammad152 You're ordinary! This is Greece, nothing can be better than what made by them. No tecnology, no lights, no fireworks, no money can be better than this. Here is the spirit, where the Olympics were born. Chinese is just what China is: a forgery, imitation and total fake. They wanted to show the world they were great and powerful, that's all. Grerce showed the world what an olympic spirit is. They were awesome!

  • @MatheusStradivari Hahaha China is a forgery, imitation and total fake? Do I smell jealousy? This BORING ass Athens opening ceremony is so clumsy and dull compared to the Beijing opening ceremony. No disrespect to Athens but this utube poser needs to give credit where it is due and stop being so obnoxious and arrogant. RESPECT!!!

  • @patrickvang06 Jealousy??? I'm italian, man! Icon of music, history, arts, gastronomy, fashion, beverage, monuments, culture ... What could I be jealous of??? LOL

  • @MatheusStradivari Jealous or not, DO NOT act as if the whole world is ONLY talking about Greece. If I recall correctly, our governments and the media is more curious about what China is doing and where it is going than any other country on the planet. This itself speaks volume about the importance of China's global economic influences and also an acknowledgment of a emerging superpower. There's a saying the 20th century belongs to America & then the 21st century belongs to CHINA.

  • @patrickvang06 it doesnt have anything to do with jealousy honey...i was there that night and believe me nothing was boring about it,everybody there felt moved and touched and excited, the athletes too..i am not saying beijing sucked or anything but you compare 2 totally different things...and keep in mind that this ceremony was hosted by a country of 10 million ppl not 1 billion...so given the scale we pretty much nailed it!!! and really do your homework before you speak...

  • @hrisaki84 Perhaps you should do your homework before you speak. With all due respect to Greece, I was just simply refuting @MatheusStradivari about his earlier post about China being a fake. I DO NOT think there's anything fake about China as it transcends from a rural nation to a global economic power in just over 2 decades. Greece is unique in its own ways but China has taken their ceremony to another amazing level...one in which will be very difficult to beat. READ before you speak!

  • @patrickvang06 i guess being polite isnt your thing...

  • @hrisaki84 As if you're being polite by implying I need to do my homework when clearly you didn't do your homework before responding to me.

  • Πώς λέγεται αυτή η μουσική σύνθεση;

  • @warriordinos999 Συμφωνώ απόλυτα μαζί σου. Όσο γι' αυτούς που στα σχόλια του βίντεο αυτού λένε ότι η διοργάνωση των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων συνέβαλε στην τωρινή κατάσταση, ας μην ξεχνάνε ότι η οικονομία δεν ήταν καθόλου αυτή όταν ανέβηκε ο Καραμανλής στην εξουσία. Τί οικονομία παρέλαβε και τί παρέδωσε ο άνθρωπος αυτός;

  • I like the music

  • OLYMPIAN ETERNAL LIGHT!

  • Simply Amazing!

  • That ceremony almost made you cry .....

    Just amazing

  • Pity about the commentators... Don't know when to stop spewing crap they know nothing about.

No sense of letting the spectacle speak for itself.

  • Comment removed

  • "The heavy pounding of the music is supposed to express the struggle to moce forward, and the human confrontation with deep emotional and intellectual thoughts. ... ... ... And that is real water."

What a buffoon of an announcer! You have to be a real idiot to read a script about the lofty ideas this ceremony presents, and then immediately follow that up with a comment about the F%*$ing water.

  • put it in 5 53....this idiot said that we didn't do anything spacial for a century...well i say only one thing...if it wasn't us he would be just a monkey trying unhopefully to light a fire!!!!!!!idiots!!!!!!!!!who cannot create something ruins something else with his words to seem greater...what a pitty....!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yeah Athens Opening Ceremony is to remember, really beautiful! regards from Mexico.

  • "mpouzoukia" haha

  • @909054lam lol I know, right?? hahahaha

  • I agree the Bejing ceremony was really cool but still, dosent beat this one!

  • bejing was really special, great , well done... but it could not reach the Athen games...for many reasons - olympic games came back home !

  • Athens and Beijings were great

but lets be honest..if u compare them Beijings was light years beyond athens

  • mi fa venire i brividi...GRANDE GRECIA!!!!

  • P E R Φ E C T I O N !

  • this section is just great !

  • lol i almost fall from my chair when she said bazukia!!!!!it's buzukia!xa xax xa

  • i loved when they came back home...

  • 4:45 AMAZING ! i am gone cry...

  • The Beijing Ceremony was definitely without a doubt the most technically spectacular show in Olympic(or human!) history. But there's something as simple as Olympic rings of fire on water that is just as breathtaking as the bananza of lights and colours that Beijing had. I think Athens and Beijing both had the best ceremonies to date, but in different styles. Athens had the simple symbolism and evoked emotions while Beijing had the mass pageantry and effects.

  • And both Olympics were at an advantage because the Greeks and Chinese are the oldest civilizations on earth and the founding cultures of the West and East so they had a lot of stuff to show. Whereas Vancouver....that was just pathetic.

  • .,vancouvers opening was the best winter olympic opening!!!

  • @acatisfinetoowut, excellently stated, and that's really the way we should look at opening ceremonies. It's not about who's "the best," but what's special about each one. Greece and China both have long histories to tell, and both told their stories in ways that captivated audiences and made them greatly appreciate what each ancient civilization has done for the world.

I do have to disagree on Vancouver though. I thought it did an excellent job of showcasing the Canadian spirit.

  • I think Athens had the best variety of segments that are unique and exciting. I notice alot of Opening Ceremonies start off on a dull entry. Athens definitly opens with a bang!

The top three best opening ceremonies ever are: Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, and Seoul 1988. The more exotic the country, the more interesting the show I believe!

  • Are you kidding? The ceremony in Seoul? That's like a school sports show.

  • nice:D

  • I love being Greek so much. This is fantastic. Greece is fantastic. We made the Olympics and boy am I glad we did! :D

  • im greek and i think this opening ceremony was spectacular but beijing blew my mind away! i wonder how rio de janeiro's opening ceremony will be like?

  • um what yr are they holding the olympics at rio de janeiro?

  • @smarti1289 2016

  • ah okay.. thanks :)

  • I like this than Beijing its not regimented, its the core and heart of olympic opening presentation, centered on humanity and freedom.

  • The best opening story wise. However, I think Beijing beat them at everything else.

  • I think greece had the more interesting storyline in their opening and it made u wanna watch it more, in that fact greece had the best opening ever...beijing had the most spectacular... and in that beijing had the best opening... but there is a differece between interseting/unique and spectacular so i can't say which one was the best ;)

  • Simply .... the BEST!

  • Most original and unique .... the best! l

  • There were 4 commentators for NBC ....2 were bob costas ( a greek american) and katie courick......THEY SUCKED ASS commentating on regular NBC standard definition ! But these two, in NBC HD, whom we are listening to now are much more well informed about what is going on. I've watched both versions...and this one, the HD one is better. (as far as understanding the meaning to everything that is going on)

  • this is great but the beijing olympics is so much better..that means the olympics is getting better each time so thats good..but still love this one

  • I feel like Beijing copied this idea of starting off with drummers......

  • But the drummers were just spectacular.

  • seeing as how China did about 100,000 times better..i think they're safe.

  • Well that's a matter of opinion because for me (and for a lot of other people too), this one was better....It's not fair to say one is better than the other. I think Beijing and Greece focused on different things. Greece focused on the spirit of the Olympic games and the core of humanity (which for me, makes for a better opening ceremony)...whereas Beijing was simply a demonstration of their culture and history. Again though, its all opinion on which is better.

  • @PolythenePamm beijing one world one dream

  • Damn. This commentator is just too stupid ... But hey.. Its an american. you cant expect anything more.

  • I have witnessed 5 Olympic open ceremonies in my life till now. All of them are the celebration of mankind. I like them all.

The flying arrow over the cauldron at Barcelona OC, the fire rings in the water pool at Athens OC, the lighted global in the bird nest at Beijing OC are my favorite unforgettable Olympic moments.

  • thank god i am Greek...

  • why?
