Anybody know the tune that was on a soundtrack before they were well known. I mean before Bitter Sweet Symphony. A friend in HS had a cd with them on it. That song is what drew me to them.........similar to this one but with a very distinctive guitar part that moves from low notes to high notes like a small wave comming onto the turf at midnight.
Great psychedelic debut from them. I always thought the song was about prostitution, but then it may well be about drugs, some of their early songs were.
Because they are 16 years older now...I like when bands progress or evolve but stay on that same level of quality..They were dropping acid and living in the pscyh/club world then. They and Richard have matured and grown so properly well. And yessss, I am stoned and this song is a jam while elevated.
Yes my friend being elevated keeps me sane keeps me real an i need to drop acid to this song an knew exactly they were on it when i watched this its no secret i miss the 90's
Of course. I think you'll find most people here are The Verve fans, not just Urban Hymns fans as 90% of most people claiming to be "fans of The Verve" are.
@unpoppablebubble I like Urban Hymns, but realistically speaking it's really a Richard Ashcroft album, not a Verve album. Most of the songs were written by Ashcroft for his solo album which he was working on before deciding to reform Verve. If Ashcroft had released a solo album instead it would have had pretty much the same tracks on the album with "A Song For The Lovers" replacing Neon Wilderness and "CMon People" replacing Catching the Butterfly. On UH McCabe's guitar is criminally drowned out
@thechosen2010 True true, and i know that, but nonetheless, it's probably the best material done by them (i guess thats cos i liked it when i was a kid but never heard their other stuff til more recent)
I think it generally sounds more timeless than their other stuff although i love shoegaze music at the moment lol
@thechosen2010 Indeed, I was pretty much an Urban Hymns fan but since that I'm a proper fan of these guys. :D All they ever did, despite them being around for a bit when i wasnt born!
Im 39 now, but then, I was 21 and this single lit me up. Edwards No8, Birmingham, surrounded by dour students, but our little gang was goin for it...born to fly!
no band in the last 20 years has come close to the verve. even now with their last album they showed that they are better than most bands out there. cant wait for the next one.

Why did life ever have to move beyond 1993?!!!
This track is utterly sublime...great days...great great days and a real comfort in such pants times in which we now live.
Off for a RIDE, My Bloody Valentine, Roses, Spiritualized extravaganza...just sooooooooooooperrrrrrrrrrrb.
