I am 35 and watched these when I was like 7 or 8, very few movies or TV shows have what this show had, I think heart might be the word, I completely believe the characters and the music is unbelievabley fitting.
Kodai should have resumed firing the instant that ship came out. I think they would have been safe had they moved underneath Zordar's ship and fired at its bottom.
1) Sad that Saito died. Even sadder that Kato (whom I will always think of as Conroy) died getting Sanada and Kodai back safe -cool and heroic, but really sad, he was one of my favorites.
2) Zordor:
Sabera, consider your ass dumped, you lieing, scheming bitch!
This episode is awesome ! It is like Star Wars, A Better Tomorrow and Transformers all roll into one. It will be great if they use A Better Tomorrow's soundtrack during the gun fight scene.
I remember seeign that scene as a kid and knowing that Saito (AKA the Sarge) didnt make out alive yet they try to say that the sarge did make it out. We werent that dumb as kids. but is a surpise that Conroy died bringing them back. Its not a big surprise that Zordor left his people behind to die. The thing was this show was geared toward an older audience yet it was marketed for 10 yr old for kids.
My little daughter wondered why nobody was seen in the buildings on Gatlantis when the Yamato opened fire. Of course, at the end it became obvious to her that this was not a mistake on the makers's side... "This Zordar - always in for another nasty surprise!"
I suppose that in the original japanese version, Sabera is Zordar's lover. In the italian one, she's his daughter and her name is INVIDIA (Italian word for "envy")
i was about 6 when i watched the american version and i never bought that knox "got out right behind" wildstar. also i got the subtle implication in zordars threat to leave invidia gorce and dire behind that he actually DID. this is born out when in episode 26 you see zordar talking about them but dont actually SEE them
I couldn't help but wonder if there were any civilians or non-combatants on Galantis... humm? If I were Captain and had a helpless city in my sights I would do the honorable thing and offer them to surrender.
That's because the italian version (Which I really, REALLY want to find) is dubbed off of the english one, and they cut that part out of the english version, so it seems like Invidia and Dyre and Gorse go with him...(Personally I like that ending better)
Wow, by far this is the most amazing cartoon I ever seen. For the whole series I thought Saito was the biggest dick but he ended up sacrificing himself to save Earth. What a hero.
Sweet! I'm glad I can find the japanese version, this is one of the best episodes to show the cuits between both versions. Though I really feel sorry for Invidia (Sabera)-She doesn't need to be left behind! (I like her okay?) Anyway thanks for uploading this.
The most spectacular shot in the whole series comes at 4:57, seen from the city as one of the distant Yamato's shells lands nearby. I'm not sure why that shot appeals to me so much..
How ironic what Sandor said to Wildstar in Star Blazers gives a greater sense of desperation and the sacrifice Sgt Knox was about to make ("that was fast, where's Knox?, will he get out in time?"), yet he's supposed to have made it out in Star Blazers. :(
But what happened to Conroy? He's seems fine getting into the plane yet is 'suddenly' mortally wounded when they are about to take off.
Thanks for posting this. As great a job as they did on the American version, the true version shows just how much sacrifice and loss it took for Yamato to win the day....
Thanks very much for posting these episodes. The drama is so much more intense - the losses, the brutality of war - in the original. And Saito's speech to Kodai? "No tears...brother." Awesome.
That dreadnaught could defeat several of Star Wars' super star destroyers.

francecampi 2 years ago 3
Actually, I've read that it comes from the Latin word meaning 'jelousy', since her name was the same in english as well.
DropsOfIndigo 2 years ago
Latin and Italian have often same words because Italian is Roman language closer to Latin (more than Spanish, French and Portuguese)
francecampi 2 years ago
The StarBlazer version is the same Invidia is Zordar's daughter.

"Our sacrifice was too great...."
One of many little important asides in "Yamato" that didn't translate into English.

ookii na gisei datta (I think) meaning literally big sacrifice was

See, see! And I thought the Yamato had only torpedoes left. How comes all the turrets are suddenly operatable again?
Restitutus 2 years ago
It's not all the turrets, its got a strange firing patern that doesn't match all of them. That points to only a few operational guns.
You do have a point though, its definately a hole in the script.

If you look at Conroy when he's entering the plane, he appears to be grimacing in pain. And that sweat on his face certainly looks red colored...
