With their black dog they journeyed to the ocean, going through good times, bad times, they journeyed over the hills and far away, having a communication breakdown, but they regrouped with a whole lotta love, waded through the kashmir, and found the stairway to heaven.
@MegaZephead Exactly! What's "sloppy" about his performance here? Besides, some of his "sloppy" playing really MADE Zeppelin, but that's for another day...
Would it be fair to say that this is the greatest double-live rock album of all time? I know it came out the same year as Frampton's record (1976), which may have sold more copies, but TSRTS had a look and feel to it that captured this time in rock so much better!
It's definitely a hard one to beat for sure. I've owned in on 8-Track, cassette, vinyl and compact disc. As much as I love live LP's, I don't think there's another one I've cherished as much as this one in its' original 1976 form, not the 2007 expanded and remastered edition.
@Fakename70 I only have this on vinyl, my friend, and it does not have one skip or scratch on it (the album cover, either), and I will cherish it until the day I die. I might even ask to have it cremated with me (okay, that's going too far)!
U know what laddies and gentelmen im 19 almost 20 years old. The first led zeppelin song i heard from my knowlege at age 5 that my uncle mark played for me was Black Dog and from that day on ive been jamming my nuts of to them. their is no band that can touch them. none. u want the best go out n buy this album. beware of the powerful Robert, John, Jimmy and John to zep fuck ur ears this song is breath takin thats all i have to say. outside of JAM TO THE HAMMER OF THE GODS! R.I.P. John H. Bonham
i like zep's mystical, unique stuff better than their bluesy stuff, although i like both.
This song and most of their later albums were an answer to critics who said that zep just did blues and nothing else. In my opinion, zep's best songs are their non-blues songs.. such as this one, stairway, over the hills, thank you, ramble on, kashmir, rover, in the light, and of course the epic achilles last stand and many others.
you should try playing this on the guitar. 30th anniversary celebration of Bonzo's passing last saturday was insanity, check the videos under Bonzo the groove remains the same!!! If you were there as i was leaning on the stage, the drums sounded incredible!!!!!!!
Music now is just computers and a bunch of black people that respond well to the autotuning they put on it, rap is terrible, and requires no talent at all, i play the drums and i aim to be just like Bonzo here, by far the best band ever, and nobody makes good music like this anymore........
Just try ang get yer lame poser Rock Radio station to play this smokin' live version of TSRTS..... They'll just look at you funny, because they're numb-nuts, working for numb-er-nuts....

@rey6333 yeah i know that of the beggining, i got the dvd too... but the music still being the same... rememeber that TSRTS movie is a compilation of more than one live perfomance...
I grew up with Led Zeppelin, having bought LZ III in 1973. Bought ZoSo or IV after hearing Stairway to Heaven. I was amazed at led zeppelin, that my ears were blessed to hear this rock music! Music of the angels (nearly). Thunder, and the lasting of the mighty hammer of thor. The long suffering and wisdom of the Soul. The great party was started. I then bought Physical Graffiti. Led Zeppelin sounded like gods from heaven. With Bonzo's mighty drumming! All four are from the House of God!

maybe the best version of this song.
after 1975 the play and performance of this
song is a little bit dull,
particularly the way of singing of robert
the middle part "california sunlight・・・・”
is dull after 1975.
this performance nice!

very fresh.
